I don't know what Calvin H is talking about, friendly people and good selection for it's size. Btw pic is a ripoff when it comes to alcohol prices!

I agree with Kelly, the people who work there are total jerks with the worst selection in town. I'm 29 years old, and I still got treated like a teenager attempting to use his older brother's ID every time I went there. I've seen beer there that expired years ago, including some from breweries that don't even exist anymore! Do yourself a solid and drive the extra 30 seconds to Pick 'N Save for better prices and better selection.

Dug is the most friendly and helpful. Always a good choice with better wine choices than standard grocery stores.

Where Cudahy and St. Francis goes to get drunk.Wow, specials on Arbor Mist wine, Chocolate liqueurs, Tequila Rose, and Natty Ice? What more could a South-sider want? Pekar's knows what it's clientele wants and knows how to give it to them. Nothing flashy, just booze, beers, and a little wine for the lady. You won't find a nice '61 Chateau nuef du Pape, or a 16 yr old small-batch single malt whiskey, but I'm guessing if you're shopping here, you won't be looking for one. If it's cheap beer, cheap wine, and every type of cheap booze by the 1/5th that you need, you've come to the right place. For me, it's a perfect spot to get some beer for Cudahy cards night, or a cheap bottle of wine for that family meal by mom's. Their micro beer selection isn't terrible, I'll give them that. Service has always been friendly enough, no complaints there.

I've been a loyal customer here for about a year now. The prices are about average, although I've seen the things I buy here cheaper elsewhere. I mainly shop here because It's just a few blocks from my apartment. The service has always been decent until today. I bought a bag of Snyders pretzels, and as I was checking out I noticed they were expired. The store owner was the one ringing up my items, but when I brought this to his attention, his only response was "well they shouldn't make you sick or anything, they only expired a month ago." He wouldn't even give me my money back, he just told me that I didn't have to eat them if I didn't want to. I told him I just didn't think I should have to pay for expired food, and he just stammered some nonsense about not being able to give things away for free like in "the good old days". Needless to say, I think I'll be driving the few extra minutes to go somewhere that at least the OWNER gives a shit about customer service.

I used to come in to get certain things for work that they, for some weird reason, carry. I was out at the beach with my dog- my BABY. Husband texted me frantically saying he could not make several of our cocktails because he ran out of orange curaçao...I knew Pekar's had it.I pulled into their empty parking lot, left the car running with the air on for my dog, and ran in for the bottle of liqueur and two bottles of club soda. Well the witch that was working the counter- maybe an owner, not sure- she called the police on me. It was terrible. She also told them that I was quote "wandering around the store and wobbly and I looked tipsy'" end quote. She also told them I "fell out of my car when I arrived." I actually dropped my phone and picked it up. Crazy. I was hiking with my dog. Not wasted.I guess I should have known she would call the fr-king police because there is a tiny handwritten note taped to their window, amongst many other aggressive notes, that says she will call the police if you leave your dog in the car. Even if you leave the dog in the air conditioned running vehicle for two minutes while you grab a bottle of orange curaçao for work. She will also lie and try to get you arrested because she is a horrid person and, I think, she also just hates women. It was traumatizing, embarrassing, confusing and really upsetting. Why, WHY, would a business owner do that to a responsible customer? I have ideas.

Pekar's is your average neighborhood, family owned liquor store. Some things are a buck or two more or less than market and they get some interesting things in on a regular basis. They have always been friendly and kind to me every time I've stopped in.

They carry one of my favorite beers........ Duchess De Bourgogne....... To the tune of 10.99 a bottle. Too bad it all expired over a year ago. I found this out after the one i bought was not very great. The cork advertised it had expired last December, which is really something for a beer that shelves for three years. I asked the management about it, and their attitude was more like "sucks for you" . Buyer beware. Makes you wonder about the rest of the stock with no dating systems.

If you shop here -- bring your own bag or box. They use the cheapest bags available. Per the manager -- they are "made in China" -- and I should know what that means. Were they forced to use these bags? No, it was their choice. The bag my two bottles of wine were placed in tore before I even got to my car. Of course, one bottle fell through and broke in the parking lot just outside of this establishment. I was carrying the bag close to my body - but could not catch the bottle. Upon inspection the bottom of bag was only glued together on one side. No wonder it tore so fast. Presenting my purchase without putting them in their bag would have been much, much better. Good selection of wine. Poor concern for and care for the customer. Very fast and proficient at assigning blame and not caring how they set up the situation. Did not care that the bag was defective.
