Pat's Oak Manor

A couple Fridays back I was going to a Milwaukee Milkman game and wanted dinner somewhere on the south side beforehand. Of course, being a Friday, I wanted fish. Of the options I had bookmarked that I had never been to, Pat's Oak Manor was my choice that day. I went with the all you can eat beer battered cod and potato pancakes.The potato pancakes were stellar. While not crispy, they were mostly firm on the outside, so they stayed together pretty well, and the flavor on the inside was an array of potato, onion, and spices. I made a good choice and they make a good potato pancake. The beer battered cod was good, though the third piece on my initial plate was getting a little soggy on the bottom by the time I got to it due to the grease in the breading. The rest of the fish I got during my meal didn't have that problem. I was impressed with how quickly they were able to get additional plates of cod out, although I would have preferred the option of more than only two pieces at a time.Even though the banquet hall was getting full and I only saw three people waiting tables, the person waiting on me seemed to be pleasant and in good spirits. I didn't catch her name otherwise I would shout her out specifically.

The food here isn't great, but the prices are. Every night there's some food special, and it's a very popular neighborhood bar so arrive early and don't expect to get your food too quickly. It's okay there are also always drink specials, it's a beer on tap place so don't order anything fancy. The crowd here is all White and middle aged, but I felt welcome or at least accepted.

Pat's Oak Manor is a very established southside destination in South Milwaukee, so I would be remiss if I did not try it. It's an unpretentious bar/restaurant/hall, very casual and dive-barish. The staff is super friendly and attentive. They serve you a big individual bowl of coleslaw with a piece of light rye bread as a first course. The coleslaw was creamy and sweet and a very generous portion. Our beer battered cod was served quickly. The potato pancakes were the star. Nicely cooked and good onion flavor. The fish, sorry to say, was not so good. The outside was very crispy, but the inside was bland and chewy, not flaky. It was also way too greasy and off putting. I really wished I could give it a better review.

Excellent taco specials. Generous helpings and lots of add ons available. Wait staff is very friendly and personable as well. Definitely try this spot for their taco special night!

Back again for a delish hot fish fry!! We frequent here and tonight with the snow, we missed the piano man with live music, but they reassured us he was doing well- just not coming out in the storm. Service, as always, was pleasant and attentive! The fish was really good and the fries too. We enjoyed the little cup of slaw and piece of rye bread. The restaurant is in the back behind the bar and is not anything to brag about, but you feel like you're eating in a family setting with nice people. We always come back.

Overcooked, dry, bland, oily fish Old oil, need to change that ASAP!Cold battered fries, no tasteGummy & still burnt tasting, undercooked potato pancakes, no onions in the pancakes. Watery coleslaw Flimsy, thin & gummy rye breadTHERE WAS NO TASTE TO ANYTHING. Really went downhill Won't be back

Good food,garlic bread was good, pizza crust could've been less blackened but it wasn't that big of a problem. Overall a good meal

Went for fish fry. Wanted to sit outside. Was told no outside waitress but could order to go and take outside. While sitting outside, the 2 other outside tables received waitress service, real silverware, bottles of ketchup and tartar sauce. We were charged an extra "takeout fee" even though it's not what we wanted and we were the only ones who didn't get service from the waitress. She did not come to our table once! Fish fry isn't bad but customer service is AWFUL!

Beer battered cod fish fry to go. Very fast and friendly service. The potato pancakes were very good. Very generous amount of fish. Unfortunately the fish was over cooked and chewy. Everyone seems to like their fish fry so I will give it another chance sometime.
