The good: Employees are friendly and generally helpful. Very large selection of craft beers and wine, with competitive prices on some. The not so good: Often employees are not masked and don't expect any enforcement of guidelines for customers. Not competitivel priced compared to what you can find in a 5-10 mile driving radius. Check expiration dates. Examine produce closely.

Be careful when shopping here! Very overpriced and always check the date on what you buy, there are many expired items on the shelves. It's very hard to navigate this store due to the fact that every aisle has several employees clogging it just standing there talking. I am forever saying "excuse me" to get around the employees. Food quality has gone downhill, fresh produce is not very fresh and it costs a fortune! The owner put in these awful coolers for the meat section and it makes it real hard for an elderly person to see what's on the bottom shelf. Not to mention it is difficult to see what's on the back of the shelf! This store has gone downhill and I wish M & M grocery was still in town. I try to go to Mt Morris Sullivans or Felkers in Byron when possible, the owner really needs to walk in his own store and see what's going on before he loses this business.

Like most grocery stores, there's certain products that are high quality and priced well, and other products are lacking in quality and/or are overpriced. Small town grocery stores really drive this forward. For example, ground turkey costs 3.5x as much as it does at a nearby grocery store. It's the same brand. It just costs way more. Canned meat is the same way, running anywhere from 2-3x as expensive as you'd find elsewhere. On the very bad side of things, I took advantage of the "pick 5 for $20" deal in the meat section which many stores do. Both times, one of the 5 was spoiled. One time I noticed that day. The other time the meat was frozen that day and two weeks later I could tell something had spoiled in the freezer. I've also purchased the packaged produce (sliced strawberries, mushrooms, etc) that were spoiled. On the good side of things, they have a great beer, wine, and booze selection at fairly competitive prices. It's honestly the best selection in Ogle County. Their dairy department, frozen/canned vegetables are also good and priced well. The staff is polite and helpful, and like a throwback in time they take your groceries to your car.Their bread, sundries, pet supplies, and soft drinks are all priced normally. In short, I don't buy anything "fresh" there that's been packaged. I've had decent luck with loose fruit and vegetables, but if there's plastic on it, I steer clear.*A small addendum: their generic spice blends in the discount aisle are ripe with MSG.

This store should be put out of business.. Lived in Oregon for 3 years now.. only place to shop in town.. Owner knows it and his prices are 4 times what other stores are.. Should hebrew national beef wieners that cost $3.99 at walmart caost 7.99 here!! Last month bought some milk on sale .. got home and realized the expiration date was a MONTH ago . Seriously , the owner should be taken to court for price gouging. And when something is on sale check the exp. date.. drive 5 miles up the road to Mt. Morris .. at least things seem fresher there .. Or go 20 miles to Rochelle to the walmart.

Although some items may be pricey not all are. There is a nice selection of food, including healthy choices and specialty items. They have a great selection of alcohol. The staff is always helpful and friendly. They, also, provide help out to your car which I have noticed so many stores don't anymore. The little things matter!

If u must shop here be extremely careful to check all expiration dates.Expect very high prices. Bagels in fridge section expired 12 days ago, "fresh" ha ha potatoes have larger sprouts than seed potatoes. Most of fresh produce is wilted or still displayed when it should have been tossed days prior. When salad kits get slimy they remove packet of stuff to be sprinkled on top & sell it. The deli food is all dried out. Awful. If something is on sale -besides what is listed in sale flyer-it is because it is expired. Soon as my eye surgery is done I will drive the few miles to Sullivan foods in Mt. Morris and never set foot in this store again. Oh & ladies room is absolutely scummy.
