North and South Seafood & Smokehouse

Worth the wait. In town for an event. Went on Friday around 5:30pm and the place was packed already. Wait was 35-45 mins (but ended up being shorter). The menu had great options and it was very difficult to choose from. On Friday they have a fish fry (I'm always looking for a good fish fry!). The fish fry special is the same fish dinner options on the menu with soup/salad and corn muffin in addition to the two sides. We started with cheese curds and armadillo eggs. Cheese curds, Amazing and fresh (it's Wisconsin they should be). Armadillo eggs were stuffed jalapeños wrapped in bacon. (Not wrapped in sausage then bacon - person who ordered them didn't read the description on the menu so was expecting something a bit different). They were ok, the Cajun ranch that came with was yummy. I got the shrimp 1/2 coconut1/2 firecracker. The shrimp was plump (thick and good size). I loved the coconut shrimp and the fried cracker shrimp was good (more sweet than spicy). The family got burnt ends, salmon, and Icelander. All was very good. Burt ends had decent smoke flavor. Icelander was clean white fish and the salmon (I didn't try but was told) it was good. Sides of fries, baked potato, steamed broccoli, and corn muffins. All sides were good. I liked the fries dipped in the Cajun ranch). Service was good. The place was busy and they did not make you feel rushed. Waitress provided good feedback recommendations when trying to decide between items. Drinks were refilled timely. This is a place I want to go back to try more options! It would be hard not to get the coconut shrimp... maybe as the appetizer (along with cheese curds of course) next time. Hopefully sooner rather than later. Gotta give 5 stars when I want to go back the next day for more.

I finally got to try North and South this weekend and it did not disappoint! From the moment we walked in and were greeted by a friendly hostess to the minute our delicious barbecue arrived at the table - the experience was pretty perfect. Our waitress was friendly and checked on us frequently, and the interior of the restaurant was warm and decorated as you would expect a barbecue establishment to be. The food was PHENOMENAL. We ordered the cornbread muffins on a whim because the appetizers are 1/2 off on Sundays, and they were perfectly moist and sweet. My pulled pork was mouthwatering, the coleslaw seasoned to perfection, and the Mac and cheese was my favorite level of cheesiness. I am grateful there are so many locations around Madison, because I'll be back in a week! If you haven't already checked out North and South - do as I say and not as I do, stop in the very next time you're craving fantastic BBQ. I wish I had visited them the minute I moved to the city!

Felt like BBQ so braved the cold and being a Saturday, were counting on the restaurant not being so crowded like it is on Fridays. It wasn't, so we got to eat at the bar which we like to do if possible. I got the burnt ends which are as good as it gets and my wife the catfish which was perfect. The sides are great as well like the coleslaw. I know from the outside it looks kind of crummy in this strip mall but forget that. It's a great place with professional servers and a nice bartender. If you've never been here or just forgot about how good the food is here, give it a shot.

Very good service. Food was great had enough for another meal the next day. I had ribs & brisket. My wife had shrimp.

What a pleasant surprise and I mean that as a compliment. Places that try to do too many things (i.e. BBQ, seafood, tacos, etc) often end being below average at everything. This is not the case for this place. The BBQ is very good here, particularly the brisket. Moist and full of Smokey flavor. The seafood is underrated and quite good. The battered haddock was near perfect. Flaky on the inside and a nice crunchy batter on the outside. Very nice flavor to the batter. The tartar sauce needs a little work since it's mostly Mayo. Add a few more pickles and onions and it will elevate the dish. The Tampa is a nice piece of fish covered in a crab stuffing. Excellent! Well prepared and full of flavor. Service was super friendly and attentive. A nice gem to visit if you are in this part of the world.

Two words: Burnt Ends. They are amazing! I've had at least half the items on the menu, and I love them all. The staff is hard working, and always a pleasure to interact with. I highly recommend North & South!

We stopped in because of all the amazing reviews and we were not disappointed ! Everything on the menu sounded amazing and we wanted to try it all! We had the armadillo eggs, Cajun catfish bites. I had the clam chowder and jambalaya and my husband had the chicken gumbo and smoked prime rib. Everything tasted amazing. We definitely spent more money than I had planned but it was definitely worth it. The waitress was nice and didn't rush us through the meal which was nice. Will definitely come back again.

Ate dinner here for the first time and I was very impressed. North & South had so many awesome choices that my father & I wanted to try so we decided to share our meals. We ordered the ribs & grilled shrimp combo and the 10pc shrimp meal. You had the choice of picking 2 different ways to prepare the 10pc shrimp meal. We picked the shrimp scampi and the firecracker shrimp. Everything was delicious. We also had the mac & cheese, baked beans & corn muffins. All the sides were delicious also. The staff was very nice & service was very quick. North & South also has daily food & drink specials which we love. The whole experience was great. We will definitely return to North & South often.

Food is amazing. Service is great. Ambiance could be better. They are located in a strip mall.
