For a place I once loved, it's really went down hill. Upon arriving for a bourbon sign up - t'is the season, the rep was rude and mentioned twice to "f@&$" this bourbon stuff and another f bourbon. As a person with a large collection, me and my circles will be steering clear from now on.

Neils is exactly what every small business should strive to be. Personal and friendly service with a smiling face behind the counter. They also support local charities as well. I'll be back. Cheers to Neils!

Good selection of beers from both local brewers and across the states. The prices are a little on the high side, but not exorbitant. Definitely the place to stop to pick up beers on the way to whatever if you're in the Westport/Bishop's Bay part of greater Middleton. I haven't shopped here for liquor per se, but the selection seems good from a cursory glance. They've also got some solid neon in the shop; doesn't appear to be for sale but I guy can always hope...

Neil's is my go-to option for picking up a quick sixer of a nice micro or a bottle of Chivas. The selection isn't on par with Steve's or Woodmans but there are always a decent number of different options. The standards such as New Glarus and Capital are always present, and there seems to be a nice rotating selection of regional and national micros. The prices for beer have been rising across the board due to hops and shipping costs but Neil's pricing has always seemed to be relatively equal to most other places of the same volume - no one is ever going to be as cheap as Woodmans but I'm not driving 20 minutes out of my way to save 50 cents. I've never really perused the wine aisles but I do know they've got Wollersheim's Domaine du Sac at a good price. I also know that my Chivas Regal is always in stock at a decent price, though the selection of single malts is a bit sparse and seems to be priced higher. I like that Neil's carries selections for some of the local distilleries such as Death's Door and Yahara Bay. I managed to get my hands on a bottle of Death's Door white whiskey from here, and they've almost always got the DD vodka which for my money is the best vodka on the market.Back when the liquor store was called Jersey's the selection was not nearly as good and the store layout was less organized. When Neil's bought the location they cleared everything out and reorganized the shelving. The place is showing its age a bit and the parking lot in front of the store is in pretty terrible shape. I think the other two Neil's stores (Fitchburg & Waunakee) are better stocked and in better shape, but the Middleton Neil's is still a big improvement over the old Jersey's. The new management has also brought in friendlier employees who actually know their doppelbocks from their IPAs. I've gotten quite a few decent recommendations from the staff. The place could still use more room and more selection, but for a quick stop after work or to pick up a sixer to bring to the card game Neil's is better than most.

Beware! New payment system beer prices do not match prices on the shelf. I will buy my beer somewhere else.

Worst customer service I have had a long time. The person ringing up my purchase was argumentative and very rude. Do not go here. Bad service!

Poor customer service. On October 13 at about 4:30 PM, I bought two bottles of wine at Neil's Allen Boulevard store. One of them was a Brancott Estate 2012 Sauvignon Blanc. This is a wine we've had many times before, and it's one of our favorites. Unfortunately, we were unable to drink this bottle of wine. We took one sip and realized it was bad. The nose was off, and so was the taste. We decided to return it.I took it back to the store where I bought it at about 1:30 PM Friday. The young clerk seemed astounded that I would try to return an opened bottle of wine and refused by request for a refund. I asked him how we were supposed to know it was bad without tasting it. He had no answer. It was plainly obvious that we had drank almost none of the wine and were not trying to cheat anyone. I just wanted them to make it right. The clerk was oblivious to my concerns. This is a perfect example of extremely poor service. I have had similar issues a couple times in the past with other local merchants, and they gladly refunded my money. But not Neil's. Apparently, it is the store's policy to intentionally anger regular customers. In that regard, you have succeeded. I used to stop by the store on my way home from work several times a month for a few bottles of wine. But as I told that unhelpful clerk, "this is one store I'll never shop in again." There are plenty of other merchants who value me as a customer. Too bad Neil's isn't one of them
