I come here when I visit my parents for the holidays. The skirt steak is marinated and tossed in the flat top, nice crispy bite with a juicy center. I usually order the huevos rancheros or the divorciados. The salsa are spicy and they do not skimp out on the portions. Just a heads up it's a small place so get here early. Weekdays is better. Also the pancakes are top tier !!

The food here is like having your mom behind the counter making you the best breakfast ever. I was visiting from out of state and my husband brought me here. We are from Southern California and talk about making a quick trip to Chicago just to visit here. We had huevos rancheros, pancakes and Denver omelette. Coffee is good too. Place is small and sometimes you have to wait but it is worth it!

My favorite diner in Waukegan. In full honesty, I love the small hole-in-the-wall aesthetic. Some may find it cramped, but I think it's cozy. I love sitting at the bar, drinking the coffee, watching the cook do their thing. Menu is good. Staff is kind.

As far as breakfast diners go, this is a staple in Waukegan. My family and I have been coming for years! If you're in Waukegan, you have to stop by.The waitresses are very kind and never miss a beat. The cook is always quick and the quality of his food is consistent, and he'll even take your order if the waitresses are behind.They have a very old-school, rustic trucker feel. Most of the seats are over-the-counter but they have a couple booths and a table or two. There's enough parking but not enough SPACE INSIDE! Only issue is that, especially on the weekends, they get packed and run out of space to seat people. They definitely need to expand and maybe remodel a bit to give the place a facelift.I completely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great breakfast.You gotta check this place out!

Great tacos. In fact they are the largest Mexican tacos I've ever had. Love this food.

Great place for a quick and delicious breakfast! Monica's offers both table and counter seating. Service was excellent, I had coffee almost immediately. My food came out in what seemed like minutes. I had the western omelette with hash browns and toast. Don't forget to get some of their amazing salsa! Will probably be here every morning I'm in town for breakfast.

My experience was stressful due to the owners young family coming in with screaming kids . The diner is extremely small with a long counter and a few tables. So everyone is seated very close to each other. A older woman was seated at the counter working on her computer when a group of 3 ladies with 6 -7 young kids came in the restaurant. There food was served immediately without placing an order, hence my assumption they were family of owners. Two of the kids were cranky and unsettled, while one child continues to cry and scream thru most of my meal.The diner is extremely old, dirty and needs many repairs but the food was good. Service was quick but food came out in shifts. my pancakes arrived 5 minutes before my bacon and eggs. My husbands fajitas came out after my bacon and eggs. Why can't a diner serve orders for one table together? Food was good. Server was good but ambience and cleanliness of diner was poor, so I'm giving 3 stars. Even though food was good I would not go back.
