MOD GEN

The a gem of a store. Its what I would describe as an urban housewares stores. It has lots of interesting home decor items, but usually in scaled down versions. For example, lot of small/miniature plants to fit into a smaller apartment or condo. They also offer other knick knack like items to help accent your home. I like the nice selection of birthday/greeting cards. The staff are friendly and available for assistance.

I just did all my holiday shopping in one stop. Mod Gen is a perfect little shop that has unique items (cards, holiday decor, kitchen and home items, books, etc) and fantastic planters and plants for all tastes. And the opportunity to have your chosen plants planted in your choice of planters on the spot makes it so special, especially for someone like me who can't seem to pot a plant to save my life. The store is heavily stocked but not overwhelming; it takes a while to see it all and decide what all I wanted to get. It is a lot of fun to shop here.Park at the Public Market for the easiest way to find a spot or wait for a spot on the street.I am not sure about accessibility as it is a few steps to get in the front door. I didn't see another option but I also didn't look for one. I hope they have access somewhere but call ahead to be sure.

Interesting little store I stopped in during my recent visit to Milwaukee. It's advertised as a modern general store, but it actually seems more like a florist or gardening shop. I went in looking for some stuff I forgot to pack, but quickly realized I wasn't in the right place. What was there was very cool. The staff was nice and they are wheelchair accessible. I didn't buy anything, but if I was a local, I probably would be a regular.

Great gift shop! Reasonably priced. I love all the local goodies. And their plant selection is pretty great. I love just wandering around browsing

This is such a unique store. They have been in business for 23 years. They seem to have a lot of repeat customers from what I heard. The store has a lot of things you will not find in your usual big box stores. Probably none of what they sell here will you find elsewhere.I love their plant selection. They have so many I never heard of or saw before. The employees put a lot of care into the treatment of the plants they sell. I saw an employee carefully watering the plants. She was very focused.Some of the prices are on the steep side. I would definitely shop here for plants if I lived in the area. That plant section was my favorite part of the store.

A funky mix of gifts, plants, cards, and souvenir/Wisconsin themed items. Busy on a weekend!

Super cute general store that has a modern feel. They have so much from books, house decor, plants, etc. This is the perfect shop to find unique gifts for anyone. Definitely a nice local general store worth checking out.

I was visiting from Chi and I looked up crystal stores as I'm an avid collector. Mod Gen showed up, so I thought I'd pop over. Oh my gosh, when I showed up I was blown away by the amazing selection of plants they had! (They had about 4 crystals in the shop, so I don't think they count as a crystal shop haha) Lots of books and housewares too. I ended up getting 2 cacti, a pot for one of my other plants, and my daughter got some cute pins and stickers. Great shop with friendly and knowledgable staff!

MOD GEN is another place that I absolutely have to visit every time I'm in Milwaukee! It's such a cute shop, selling novelty items like books, mugs, candles, gems, minerals and cards just to name a few (there's so much more).But what I go there for are the plants! So many plants! Tropical plants, cacti, flowering plants...And plants of all sizes!When you check out, they print out care sheets for each of your plants, which is really nice to have! Any staff I've interacted with has always been very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly.

I like coming in here because it's cute and the store is exciting to look at. But both plants I've purchased from this store have had issues. One had moldy soil, the other had root rot. Then they charged us to fix the root rot when we brought it back. And expensive
