Meat People Butcher

I'm always looking for meat shops in my travels so I keep a cooler in my trunk to bring tasty meat home. This looked like a good meat shop with lots of meats and take and heat items. I'm always looking for meat sticks which I couldn't find and the guy carving a spine on the table asks can I find you something so I say meat sticks and he says like regular or hot and I say hot. He goes in the back and packages me up some on the spot. I asked the guy as someone traveling through what's a must have take with me and he says the summer sausage so I grabbed one also. The place looked clean with a country charm.The hot meat sticks were very lean and almost a jerky like texture with some nice heat and tasty. The summer sausage was also really good and I'm glad I got some. I also grabbed some real dog bones for my friends dogs and they loved them. If your in the area I recommend stopping by.

This is a wonderful shop and they really know their stuff!! They also carry quince & apple products along with Madison sourdough breads. I bought a smoked bone for my friends dog and it was a hit! I would recommend you check them out for noodles, freshly butchered meats and healthy food options.

The first time we went to Meat People, we were so incredibly impressed with our steaks that we went back. This past weekend, the Delmonico steaks were so tough and each steak (of 2) was a different thickness, by double!!! That thickness made it harder to grill correctly. But the biggest reason I am placing this review, (I hate placing negative reviews), is that their Italian sausage is not what we consider Italian sausage. AT ALL! It is SO LEAN and doesn't break down in my sauce. (Yes, it's an all day red sauce.) I used to make my own Italian sausage, but it's tons of work and I prefer to pick it up at a good meat/Italian market. The sausage we prefer is made from pork shoulder, which is a super fatty cut. Unless and until they change their recipe, we'll stick with Fraboni's Italian sausage.

Great service and selection. Knowledgeable staff. They custom cut short ribs so we could make Korean short ribs. Foodie daughter approved!

I can't say enough good things about this place, friendly staff and a great selection of meats, deli meats, and other products. I am hooked because almost everything they sell is superior to the grocer store, and I would rather support local business and family farmers.

OH, MY BUTCHER! It finally happened! Today we discovered our own TOP NOTCH neighborhood butcher "Meat People" in Monona! The ladies running the shop are AMAZING! The selection is fantastic! Pasture-raised meat, bones, marrow and highest quality adjuncts - local bread, artisan cheese, wine, condiments, Nutkrack nuts, King Arthur flour.... We had to pinch ourselves! No more obscure meat wrapped in plastic at supermarkets; and yes, we are willing to pay more for better health. THANK YOU, LOVELY BRAVE LADIES! We are immensely proud of you!!!!!
