Meads Longwood Meat Market

Oh my goodness, it's good to see this place is still open. So many family businesses have closed over the years. When I was 12, many many years ago I lived on Adams St and would walk to this store to get milk. Back then the meat area and grocery area were separated by a wall but you could get to one or the other through a door. Reading one of the reviews I guess the neighborhood has gone downhill. When I lived there it was a nice friendly neighborhood. It of course has been over 40 years, every now and then I have a dream where I'm getting candy. This is the store I'm always at in the dream.

Easily the best meat market in Rockford. Don't let the location scare you away. Jeff and Ryan are two of the nicest people around, and the father son duo is definitely a nice addition.The brats are by far the best in town, all of the meat is fantastic, but anything that they add their own touch too is the best.The lunch sandwiches are the real treat of the place (if it isn't the service) they are phenomenal, I'm especially a fan of the new Cubs specials.Easily my favorite meat market.

This place is awesome. He said how thick. I said inch and half. Try that at your megamart. Cook it on the grill. WOW tender, juicy. I can't wait until I'm hungry again I want more. You have to try this place.Its cheaper than megamarket. A man will hand it to you. You can see the pride his eyes, its the best there is. I promise the food is much better, meat. Its a butcher shop. Will there be anything else? YES one of everything please.Next I'm going to try thier whole chickens. Then ribs, then more steak. Burgers HHmmm wish I was hungry.... : )

I am a vegetarian. Reviewing a meat market. Confused yet? I'm not... Jeff and his crew give great service to his customers, providing great cuts of meat (I wasn't _always_ a vegetarian...) quickly and with a hearty smile (and frequently a great handshake to the regulars). Like a delicatessen, he has sandwiches available for lunch (containing meat--of course); also like a delicatessen, he does catering for events big or small (even with a long "trailer-sized" grill!) with great side dishes to accompany the meats he sells. A few groceries are available at the market, but Mead's is primarily a place for buying MEAT (intentionally typed in capital letters)--it's a "Meatopolis!" I have had Mead Longwood Market provide meat for a dinner for 60+ people, which was ready on time and on budget--although I cannot personally vouch for the taste of the meats due to me being a vegetarian, people at the event who were eating the meal were complimenting the meat all evening, so I imagine Meads did as well --or better-- on this as they did on the rest of the experience. I can certainly recommend them and continue to use them as a meat source for catered events.

Do you love steak? For the love of God, get to this meat market. Their steaks are the best in town, bar none. Jeff is friendly and will get you whatever you need to make your dinner delightful. He can order whatever meat you desire, including fish, so don't be shy. If you don't see something, simply ask. If he offers to rub your steak in their house steak rub, for goodness sake, DO IT. It's amazing.

I've only ever had the hot sandwiches they serve at lunchtime, but they're the best sandwiches I've ever had in Rockford. I've gone so far as to fake sick at school to go home and get one. I think they're like $3? I had them cater my graduation party: roast beef and pulled pork. People loved it.

Absolutely an amazing butcher shop. Jeff is fantastic and will take great care of you. All sorts of custom cuts and custom orders. If they don't have it - they will get it for you and everything is FRESH. Highly recommended.

WE order raw meat to cook and also get food catered for events at work. When we cater in food the people in from out of town rave about it. When we cook The brats, Burgers or steaks for lunch on the grill they are always top notch!

My parents began going to Mead's in the 1940s when they moved to Rockford. It was on John St or Court St at that time (I wasn't born then, so I'm not certain of the address). They continued going to Mead's after the move to Longwood, and I still go there. I think they are in their 4th generation now. I wouldn't go to any other meat market....they have wonderful meats, and they are SO helpful and remember their customers. I have purchased their meat boxes as presents for local family members, and even with my small orders, they treat me as if I am ordering thousands of dollars worth of products. The BBQ sandwiches at lunch are great! They're tasty and there is so much on the bun that I often take some off and use it for supper.Thanks to all of you at Meads Longwood Meat Market.

The Absolute best place for fresh meat ! I got a large Meat box and the owner drove me home with my order as I am in a Wheelchair and even carried it upstairs for me . Wonderful Customer service , Terrific Products and a Good Price for the quality . You could not ask for more
