Mars Tavern

If you're not ordering food from Mar's sandwich counter, you're crazy! The quality of the ingredients is outstanding from top to bottom. Ordered the pastrami on sour dough and it did not disappoint in the least. The German potato salad came out nice and warm with its classic taste. I splurged and ordered the cheese curds along with and they came out hot but not scalding and with a light, crispy breading. You also can't beat the medieval theme used throughout. Love this place!

We were out in Wisconsin on a nice warm (for January) Thursday and when in the area we always make a stop at Mars. We happened to find a spot on the side with the door that leads to the newish Tavern and being a bit hungry we stopped in for a bit. It is a nice little bar full of friendly midwestern folk. We sat at the bar and talked to the very nice bartender, the bar is full of several local brews, most we have never heard of. I think they have an open kitchen in the bar at times but today you could go around the corner and order food at the cafe and bring it back....so we did. The food is sandwich focused as you would expect. I had half a Pastrami reuben and chili with German potato salad. and my wife had a liverwurst sandwich..doesn't get more Wisconsin than that. We also had to get cheese curds, we can not eat at mars and not get them, I believe it's a law! The food is surprisingly very good and the beer was excellent as well. It's a great little place that I'm sure we will stop in everytime we go to mars. Very friendly people , great staff and local beer, can't beat that. The other thing is we had 4 beers for under $25, try that in Illinois. And don't miss the beer cheese and crackers that complimentary at the bar.

Love this place!! Service is super friendly I know it is a tourist trap, but I stop here often. Nice selection of draft beers. And of course - the grilled cheese.

For those who don't know, this is the bar that is part of the Mars Cheese Castle. They offer free spread cheese and crackers. There are four tv screens and the last time I was there they had on three separate channels. It's not a large bar by any stretch and it's quite popular. There is a fairly robust core of regulars.The beer selection is pretty solid. Prices are on par with most bars in the area--$5 for a micro. Check out Lakefront's Red Planet Ale. The bartenders are decent, a little sarcastic, but I imagine bar tending at a touristy bar set in a cheese castle will do that to you. While the tavern doesn't serve food, you can order food from the deli and have it delivered to you in the bar. We enjoy stopping in any chance we get. It's great people watching, if nothing else.

This little tavern is the best part of Mars Cheese Castle. We have been here several times, and the service is always friendly and fun. They a great variety of beers on tap and a tempting bloody Mary. The best bet is to order a grilled cheese and have it at the bar. Also, if you have any gaps you need to fill, they serve a complementary tray with spreadable cheese and crackers!

This place has a great selection of cheese and sausage. They also have a great selection of beer and of course they sell New Glarus. Their sandwiches are really good as well. I got the kings ransom and it's delicious. The warm German potato salad is great as well. The tomato bisque soup was really good as well. This is a great place to visit if you are heading to Wisconsin or on your way out of Wisconsin.

Been stopping at the Cheese Castle for a few years now and for the first time stopped into the tavern. From the lions it's just a small bar where you can grab a drink and chat with friends. One of the biggest perks of this tavern is free cheese and crackers.. Yum O. When in WI you have to eat any type of cheese. The best part of our whole experience was our great bartender Kyle. He was so nice and great to talk to. It also helped that he found my friend and I conversation quite amusing. If you are stopping at the Cheese Carl's for some cheese and sausage make sure to also stop by the tavern for a drink and some cheese and crackers. You won't be disappointed.

I had a bloody and it was a short glass with no CHEESE at the mars cheese castle all for 7.50$

Only the weak and mild rate this place less than five stars! It is a typical WI BAR and if you do NOT know what that means keep driving your Prius down the road. However, if you want OUTSTANDING service and BEER, a friendly and welcoming atmosphere then this is your olace.

Lisa is amazing! Such a welcoming atmosphere. We stopped in from Chicago and we were so surprised when we left that we've never been there. Pulling away we said "I'm so glad we went, what a great place!" We will be back. Thank you Lisa!
