Marie's Soul Food

Wow. Just wow.I ordered via DoorDash and rarely review until I've either done a pickup myself or done delivery several times. This merited a first time review.I ordered the catfish meal that comes with two sides and a cornbread muffin, and then ordered two additional sides. I anticipated the meal sides to be slightly smaller than the additional sides since I ordered those separately. Everything came the same size, in a cup size to-go container.The catfish was well-breaded, tender and flaky. It was also well-seasoned; I chose a side of tartar sauce but did not reach for it. The collard greens are packed with flavor and that little kick they note. The dressing (available Sundays only) also packed a blend of spices. The Mac and cheese is nice and creamy, also well-seasoned. Bottom line, the keyword is flavor, that's all you need to know. Bland? Never heard of her.I will be coming back for the red beans and rice which I didn't see on the app and really wanted, but that is more than fine because the rice and gravy was perfect. THAT alone would be my chosen comfort food along with the corn muffin, which was not dry and well-baked. This meal absolutely warmed my soul and I cannot wait to come back for more. Everything was well-packed and, to me, very reasonably priced. The fried chicken will be my next pick but this will be my go-to place for catfish.

The star of the meal: the chicken. It was absolutely amazing--crispy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Unfortunately, the sides didn't hit the same mark. The mac and cheese was stiff and lacked the creaminess you'd hope for, making it hard to enjoy. The greens, while fresh, were overly smoky and soupy. While the chicken was a win, the sides left me a bit disappointed.

I took out dinner from here. Fried chicken was the best thing I had. It was fried real crisp. Sweet potato side was a bit too sweet for me. Barbecue baked chicken was good. Rice and gravy was ok

This place is so good!! The fried chicken meal had the perfect combo of juicy fried chicken, sweet yams, Mac and cheese and a corn muffin.The service was great as they helped us get our orders in fast. There's not a lot of seating but it's a great place to quickly pick up food togo.I definitely recommend coming here to try authentic soul food!

The food is incredible and made with so much love! Great to work with for catering. A favorite of our family's!

I've been looking for a soul food place around Madison and as a college student a warm meal is a must. I came right when they opened and ordered their sampler which came w 2 sides and baked chicken. The service was nice and quick. I can't wait to come back and recommend this location to friends as well!

Marie's Soul Food has been on my hit list for a while, so had to pull up for some late night food since I heard they closed late. However, I wasn't aware of the limited late night menu which consisted of 2 items - the Catfish & Fries and Chicken & Waffles. I'm not sure if they switch these out, but I ended up getting both to try them out. You could tell these dishes were made with love. The roughest part of the meal was dealing with the aroma of the food while driving back to Verona. The catfish was excellently breaded and the chicken fried to perfection. I wish the waffle portion was increased since we felt it was a bit thin, but still delicious. There were some complications with the drinks we ordered, but the owners were really sweet about it and offered a prompt resolution! Little tip for the owners, I recommend using an aluminum sheet as the base for the container since our styrofoam container + syrup container melted slightly due to the hot food. Look forward to trying the full menu next time!

Update: the three piece fried chicken meal was such a great addition to the menu! The ribs were also super tender and delicious!

First tried Marie's when they catered an event I attended and it was amazing! Stopped by the restaurant today and again the food was great. Kind staff too! Love the on the go sample meal- the baked chicken and collard greens were so flavorful!

Omg!!! Fall off the bone bbq ribs were so GOOD and best candied yams ever!! Great prices and didn't wait more than 5 minutes for pick up. I highly recommend!!!
