The food is amazing and I love supporting small businesses! As a Caribbean/West-Indian American, it's hard finding good Caribbean and Jamaican food, especially in the suburbs, but Mama Jerk hits. They are so nice every time I enter and the food never disappoints.

Tried this place for the first time before hitting the theater. Not only was the jerk chicken quite flavorful with the perfect amount of heat, but the Tings were amazing. Plantains and yams that put the comfort in comfort food. We even got to meet Mama!!!

WHERE IS THE AUTHENTICITY???ILLINOIS- 04/03/2024 While visiting the Great Lakes area of Chicago, my husband and I were looking for some delicious solid Caribbean home cooked type of food and we stumbled upon this place on Yelp. We read the reviews and flipped through the photos and found that they had equal amounts of good and bad reviews and were rated four stars with only 25 reviews. We took a chance on them anyway because we were super tired and hungry from the hassles we endured after exiting our flight from Houston into Chicago. Also, it was impressionably within close proximity of our AirBnB which made it easy to go with this place. Firstly, this establishment is located in a vintage type of area in Waukegan, Illinois which reminded me of how downtown Houston used to look back when I was growing up as a kid in the 80's. There were parking meters only, no private parking and a variety of other stores and restaurants located within the vicinity. You could literally walk out of one place of business and go next door to the next store in as little as three steps. If the weather hadn't been so nasty, hubby and I would have walked the sidewalks to do some window shopping until we stumbled upon something that caught our interests. Secondly, customer service was nice. The young gentleman that waited on us was very friendly and welcoming. He was also patient with us when he realized that we had never visited this establishment and that we were from out of town. We ended up ordering the catfish dinner with a side of cabbage and red beans and rice and the Jamaican Jerk Chicken dinner with a side of rice and peas and Mac and cheese. The catfish dinner was okay. I gave it 3/5 stars because the cabbage and red beans and rice did not meet the authenticity and quality of a Jamaican meal. The rice was extremely bland and lacking any flavor at all. The cabbage was also bland and tasted a little sweet. I hate sweet cabbage but to each their own. I noticed that the cabbage had other veggies like corn, green beans, and carrots mixed in which is probably why it possessed a sweet palate. Overall, it lacked the original Jamaican flavors that I am used to like scotch Bonnet pepper, garlic, scallion, and thyme. However, on the upside of this dinner, the fried catfish was absolutely delicious and fried to perfection. It possessed a golden crunchy exterior and a meaty and juicy tender interior. The pieces were a nice size and very fulfilling. The dinner originally comes with two catfish filets but I ordered a third piece just in case the pieces were small. I quickly found out that a third piece was not needed. I couldn't finish my second piece of fish, let alone a third piece, and the crust was full of flavor and seasoned perfectly. Furthermore, my husband ordered the Jerk chicken (all white meat) dinner accompanied by rice and peas and Mac and cheese. Unsurprisingly, like me, he too complained about his sides lacking flavor and capturing the authentic Jamaican flavors of rice and peas. However, the upside of this dinner is that the Jerk chicken was a hit possessing a spicy kick and a flavorful palate. My husband said that the meat was tender and juicy. Again like me, he rated his dinner 3/5 stars as well. Overall, we liked our food enough to be content and satisfied. However, we were not "wowed" by the cuisine at this establishment. The sides are mediocre at its finest while the meat is delicious and flavorful. They seriously need to work on their sides if they want five star ratings. Lose the corn and green beans in the cabbage and do not overcook the cabbage because it was a little on the soggy side. I prefer my cabbage with a little crunch to it. My final rating for this establishment is three stars. Instead of a hit, it was a miss for me. I would probably visit again while in town, but only for the meat. I wouldn't mind trying their oxtails with plain white rice. They look succulent from the Yelp photos that others have posted. I wouldn't highly recommend this place, but would suggest that one try them at their own risk.

The food was actually pretty good. The Rasta Pasta was too spicy for me the chicken was very tinder but I couldn't eat too much of it... The Cajun Catfish was OK it was cooked well but I couldn't taste the Cajun they didn't season the fish... So basically I had too much spice on my pasta and non on my cat fish the sides were pretty good Rice & Peas and Yams. The service was also good as well... I can't say that I would return for another meal because this place is a bit pricey and the food is just ok not great.

Food was ok. Jerk chicken had heat to it but not a lot of flavor. The curry goat was mostly bone with little flavor as well. No bathrooms for the public. Service was good. Knowledge about the menu and not rude like typical Jamaican restaurants. Spacious inside with slots and table to eat.

I had Mama Jerk N Tings cater a huge pan of Jerk chicken wings for my annual fall party for my family and friends. When I tell you the chicken was completely gone before the end of the evening. Everyone kept giving high compliments that the food was delicious and of high quality. Major shout out to Sharon and the family for helping keep my family and friends bellies full and satisfied
