Lynn Catherine's Deli, Cafe & Tavern

For a bar in Fox Lake this place is pretty good. It's got plenty of beer and liquor, along with some basic food to go along with it. Lynn Catherine's is hilariously described as a deli: that's funny stuff. Come here to play some slots and hang. The prices are pretty good, but you wouldn't expect to pay much at a place such as this. After visiting the lake we came here. It's one of the many bars in town, located in the middle of downtown close to a few others. This place doesn't look like much, but has a good amount of indoor seating and there's a patio. Drinks are cheap. It's about $4 for a basic cocktail like whiskey and whatever. Even though the food isn't impressive, it's not like it's bad. It's about $7 for shareables such as the Pretzel Bites. These were a little burnt, but not that bad to be honest. Good place for cheap drinks and food. It's popular with locals but it's a good place for anyone to stop into. There's also events like live music and whatever.

This place is okay, just a lot going on, at least when I went there. Meaning, probably break down the menu better, focus on a craft instead of having a lot. From what me and my friends got it was alright, but this place was hyped up a lot and didn't live up to expectations, there are better restaurants in the vicinity.

As recent refugees from Chicago to Fox Lake, one of the things I was curious about was "where is the place where it's feasible to take the family for a meal while throwing back some brews AND maintaining a veneer of respectability"? This is the place. It's the closest thing I've found here to a similar thing in our old neighborhood, and I mean that in a good way. I was there once in the afternoon for lunch at the bar, and once with the family for dinner. Both times we had super friendly staff and decent grub. I've only had the bar food stuff so far, but they have more straight-up deli fare as well.So far it's been great. As a bonus, they've been spinning stuff like old Deep Purple and the Ramones when I was there so my aging Gen-X arse was happy. I was also pleased that the selection of taps had some Lagunitas and such. Didn't really explore the beer menu yet. I can see being a regular here.

First time here... Great service, AMAZING Bloody Mary and the food was fantastic. The three of us had absolutely no complaints. SO GOOD! We will be back!

Experience at Lynn's had always been great until the closing and reopening due to the Covid. Now, as they have reopened, no familiarity with the staff. Sadly, this has created an unpleasant atmosphere; as the new bartenders are not even close to recreating that warm, friendly environment. I've come in twice: once during the day and the other at night. Neither time was pleasant. Staff was stand-offish and almost annoyed I was there. With that, I had one drink and didn't even bother ordering one of my favorite sandwiches: the BLT. I'd search for the staff that made the place before the Covid: Leatha, Kim, and especially Bobbi, if I was Lynn. Because what was once a great place to go 'where everybody knows your name...' is nothing like it used to be.

This is a great place for lunch/brunch/breakfast. I order the soup from here very often and it's actually priced very fairly, and some of the best soup around. On Sunday's they have a lot of specials (my favorite is the spicy ham sandwich with lemon chicken soup) for $7 or under, which is also a plus. I am a huge fan of soup & sandwich joints, soThis one gets a A+ in my book. Located conveniently in downtown fox lake it is nice and close to home as well. Only downfall is that you have to parallel park on the street & due to the size of the restaurant sometimes there is only one server, so occasionally it takes a little longer than normal to be waited on. Otherwise, 4/5 and we will continue to eat here.

I use to enjoy stopping in but now I wouldn't eat there if it was free. It smells like cat urine, right when you walk in the door it slaps you in the face. Bartenders are very nice but that smell is beyond horrid!

My husband and I tried to stop in to support a local business...found two seats at the bar, as soon as we tried to sit down some guy came over and sat in front of his half eaten sandwich that was next to the empty seats. He immediately said "My girlfriend is sitting there" indicating the seats we tried to sit at. There was nothing (no drink or food) in front of the seat to indicate anyone was sitting there. "Girlfriend " was camped out at the gaming machines and didn't look like she was leaving anytime soon. The guy was also at the machines until we tried to sit and then informed us the seats were taken...yeah, sadly we won't be back.

Delicious and generous portions. Highly recommended. Doordash is phenomenal partnering here.

Sadly, this establishment does not seem to have made a proper post COVID recovery. It was once one of the most reliable places to eat on the street.
