most of my life I've lived in communities with a lot of authentic mexican food and many Latino neighbors, and this is as good as any Mexican restaurant I've been to!Friend and I tried the chile rellenos, enchilada and tacos and a marguerita . All very solid, margeurita had a "heavy pour" (which my friend appreciated), and the tacos were the BEST carnitas (somehow both crispy and tender!) and BEST lengua (very meaty and savory, not just flavorless fatty) I've ever had.

So...it's been 6 months since our 1st attempt at dining at Los Tres Lagos and we stopped at about 8:40pm on Saturday (they closed at 10pm). We start placing our order with the server and she said "Sorry, our fryers are shut down". So AGAIN....2 out of 2 times their friers aren't up. Are you kidding me?? You shut the fryers down over an hour before closing on a Saturday night??? If you want to close early, change your hours! Anyway- the hot salsa had a weird flavor. My husband thought it was spoiled (sour), I felt like it tasted like a chemical or soap or something...very strange. We were the only customers dining in at that point but the server let our beverages run dry as she didn't check on us very often. My husband wanted the chimichangas but of course again couldn't order it because the fryers were off....so he got a burrito. It was cold. We had to send it back to have them throw it in the microwave. How was it cold you may ask. Well the server was busy chatting up a customer at the bar picking up a to go order and left our food sitting up in the window. I was tempted to go grap it myself. As far as the taste of the burrito- my husband said the flavor was "ok" but there was very little meat and there was pineapple in it....he wasn't very happy. I ordered the Bistek ala Mexicana. Typically, it comes in a salsa that it's "simmered" in (per the menu) but it was pretty dry. The flavor was just ok. Their rice and beans had NO FLAVOR. Then the bill came and it was a bit crazy. $20 for my dish and my husband's burrito was only a dollar cheaper and didn't even come with rice and beans. IF the flavor was better....maybe. But all in all, I wish we just skipped the 2nd chance since it was not only disappointing but costly. I'd recommend skipping this one for sure...

Stopped in on taco Tuesday. Tacos were $2.50. I got 2 steak and one chicken. The chicken was a shredded/kind of stewed chicken. Flavors were good. The steak tacos seemed to be a little light on meat. Chicken taco was much better. My total order was a bit expensive. 3 tacos at $2.50 each, plus a kids quesadilla, side of rice, and 2 Mexican cokes was over $31.Would go again on a Tuesday for the taco deal, but probably skip the cokes and side of rice because I don't understand the cost. Receipt didn't show pricing. Overall, prices seem a bit high for the area and the food didn't justify the cost, so we will likely only go for specials.

Best Mexican food ever south of the Border. You need a passport!!! Server Jenny was awesome she served me a strawberry Margherita was the best, frozen with sugar on the rim. Amazing, exceptional service you need to experience this. Homemade chips with mild or spicy salsa option served prior to the meal. Love the music and the food was top notch. The owner Griselda was the best and wanted to satisfy my every need. We had nachos and stuffed mushrooms which were amazing. This restaurant opened in November 2023 and it's a find. This has changed my way of viewing the Mexican cuisine. Come visit Nila she's a gift from God. Loved Jenny from the block!

Went for dinner with friends. It was the owner's birthday so the place was rocking. A three piece Mariachi band roamed from table to playing requests adding to the festivities. The Margaritas were good and the food was delicious. The menu is fairly large so you should be able to find something for everyone. The staff was efficient and welcoming.

Tried to have dinner here on a Sunday night at 5 pm. We ordered frozen margaritas but the machine wasn't turned on when they opened at 4. One woman tried to make them but they were awful. We had to send back. The young waitress was nice and apologized. Not sure if we will stop again.

#1: other reviews complaining about price are just nuts. If the DINER next door can charge $15 for a grilled cheese, the prices here are cheap in comparison and the food is simply the best there is in the area. period.#2: This restaurant is new (owners, style & everything); the old location had a bad restaurant. #3: I have lived many places including about six months in Palenque, Mexico. Their mom cooks the sauces, the beans, salsas, and is often at the grill. The food tastes like memories, it is that good. Get the guacamole, a strong margarita in a big glass mug, and then anything on the menu. This is the best Mexican restaurant for probably 20-miles radius, including the Vernon Hills area. You know what Im talking about.
