If it was possible to leave negative tip, I would because my experience here was not pleasant. First, it took forever for my order to be taken. I was left waiting for what seemed like forever before the lady at the register finally had the decency to tell me to "just wait a minute" without apologizing or explaining that she was in the middle of something, and that she'll take my order soon. Like yes, I can clearly see that you're busy but it's also just common courtesy to explain this to a customer. It also took forever for my order to be made. I only ordered one thing--fried cheese balls! Surely it shouldn't take that long to throw some cheese into a fryer? Onto the food itself--the combination of salty mozzarella cheese and guava sauce was not a great pairing. I was expecting the cheese filling to be more like a mild cream cheese (similar to a cheesecake), not straight up mozzarella. It tasted decent because I drowned out the salty cheese taste with the delicious guava sauce, and anything tastes good fried, but definitely not something I'd pay $9 for again.TLDR: mid food, awful service. Giving 3 stars because I'm nice. Would not come back

Great food, it was my first time trying PR food! The rice plantain and meat were savory. I would go back! The good truck was at Zocalo Food Truck Park. I went during the summer and it has a nice vibe. Lots of seating area to eat. Ordering was easy, the line wasn't too long and the speed of service was adequate! I'll have to come back to try the rest of the food on their menu!

Las Virellas is one of the restaurants located in the Zocalo Food Truck Park. I am a huge fan of food halls and food trucks spots, as the smaller footprint and overhead leads to more experimentation and innovation. When I saw that there was a Puerto Rican place slinging out fusion burritos made with mofongo, I had to try it out. When I went up to the window to see if I could order at the register, I was informed that they were cash only. The only way to be cashless would be to use their online ordering form via cashdrop, which incurs an extra 8% ish processing fee. I'm not a huge fan of that but I guess that's what happens when I don't bring enough cash out.Burrifongo 3 Meat ($15.00) - The burrifongo is served on a small bed of arroz con gandules (Puerto Rican rice with pigeon peas). The rice appears to be a short grain, which is a major departure from the longer grain rice usually used in this dish. As a result, the texture is a little bit more toothsome and the grains are looser, allowing you to feel each individual piece on the tongue. The pigeon peas are cooked until tender and add a bit of a softer texture in between the grains of rice. There's an herbaceous undertone from the spices that perfumes the dish and the tomato paste that coats the rice lends a beautiful color. It's one of the best renditions of this dish that I've had. (5/5)Now onto the burrifongo itself. After eating it, I realized that there's probably a reason the burrito fusion is not more prevalent. A thin layer of mofongo, less than half inch thick, is spread on a piece of heavy duty foil, the toppings added to it, and the whole contraption rolled up into a burrito. It's difficult eat because mofongo isn't really bound together well and tends to fall apart. In addition, the dish is loaded up with sauce - in fact, as soon as I picked up a burrito half I found a ton of liquid dripping out from the other end. I ended up having to use a fork to eat the burrito, defeating the purpose of it being in this form. The individual ingredients are good - the mofongo itself is delicious, with a well mashed texture perfumed with garlic and punctuated with crisp bits of chicharron. The three meats included in this case are cubed ham (quite small, like the kind you'd find prepackaged in a grocery store), larger cubes of chicken breast, and roast pork shoulder (pernil). I think the inclusion of just the pernil would have been perfect since the rest of the meat textures clash a bit. The pork is moist with a nice porky meaty flavor that goes perfectly with the garlicky mofongo. Everything is absolutely drenched with mayochup and a sweet orange cheese whiz-type sauce. I found there to be way too much sauce, causing the burrito to be too moist with a disturbing overly sweet/tangy flavor combination. While there are diced tomatoes, shredded, and small bits of red onion included to give the thinnest of veneers of vegetal balance, everything gets lost in the sauce. There's a lot going on as a result and I found the dish to lack cohesion. (3/5) While the burrifongo isn't the best executed dish, the components individually are solid and I would return to order the other, more traditional dishes from Las Verillas. Just hold the sauce!

BF and I ran across Las Virellas at a recent event. We couldn't resist the call of spicy crab with tostones. I'm glad we didn't. The service was friendly. The menu for the event was interesting, but we could have used more descriptors on it.Our crab was fresh, creamy and a little spicy at the end. It was served with a side of greens, which also contributed to the lightness and freshness. The tostones were the smashed patty variety and were satisfying and filling.I'll be back based on this visit.

I'm happy to finally try Las Virellas Food Truck at Zocalo! Great food. Great drinks. Great service. On the way home from Open Doors I ordered to go and got a text when it was ready. Great photos and prices on the website/QR code if you order from the truck. Clearly tells price and you can select sauces or flavors easily. Tip range very clear and easy to adjust. Prompt service and good flavors. Even as a vegetarian I enjoyed the food and happy with the generous portions. Have to try the other drink options another time. Happy to support a woman owner and LGBTIA business! Thanks!

I've visited the food truck park twice this summer specifically to eat at Las Virellas. According to their website, it opens at 5pm. I got there once at 5:15 and they were just arriving and starting to get set up. The second time I got there at 5:30 and their food truck was closed up tight, no evidence of any activity, no signs indicating they wouldn't be open that day.

Edited! Found the extra parts of the menu and tried them out again. The carne frita was awesome and the wait time was better. Had mofungo and it was a HUGE portion for the price! DEFINETLY coming more often now! 5 stars!Great flavor! Very fresh, great portions, great people!! awesome Pina colada... Id give a 3.5of 5 for 2 reasons.. the wait was very long. It seemed they restocked supplies while I was there, so perhaps the wait I experienced is abnormal. The other reason is they only had pernil as a meat option. I'd love to see picadillo, carne frita.. something else. They had a canoa special which was delicious, but I'd have ordered with picadillo if possible being that I ordered 3 total dishes and all had to have the same protien....

My wife is 100% Puerto Rican and we travel around the milwaukee area finding food that reminds her of home. Today we found this food truck, and holy **** it's amazing. I ordered the tripleta and I'm currently writing this review as I'm scraping the sauce off my coat. This was the best tripleta I've ever had. I'd ask what my wife is eating but I'm scared she will get pulled out of whatever flashbacks of home she's having so I'll just assume her food is just as perfect as mine. The staff is 10/10, the food is 20/10, overall I recommend you figure out your life and come get this food no matter where they are, it's WORTH IT.

Not the greatest food for the price. we paid over $50 for these two meals and two beverages. when we asked why the staff couldn't give us an answer but they "she had to make her money". but what ab the money ppl are paying for this crap? the rice was hard, shrimp had no flavor and undercooked the pernil had no flavor either. first and last time here smh. The location is good just because it's in a little food truck park type thing but other than that I don't think they should even have a truck. This is like food you Buy from someones kitchen.
