Mixed reviews for today. I absolutely loved my stir fried Udon. I wanted another plate full!! My husband was not as impressed with the Heather noodles. We popped in for a late lunch after craving something new. I had Laojiu in my bookmarks and it was on the way to where we were headed later, so perfect! It's not a huge restaurant, but there's several large tables and it's such a cozy space. Definitely unexpected from a strip mall. There a lot to park in and it's easy to find- right o. The NE corner of Oklahoma and Hwy 100. Since it was fairly late, about 2:30 or so, there was no wait and the restaurant was not crowded. We placed our order at the front and then sat ourselves. The wait wasn't long at all, maybe 10 minutes before our dishes were brought out to us. If it was longer, I certainly didn't notice. The seats were comfortable and we were enjoying our Jasmine green tea and conversation. My husband had the spicy heather rice noodles. The flavors were there, albeit on the salty side. His chief complaint was that the items within the dish kept separating out. Likely due to the oils. Every bite was either noodles or one of the mixed in ingredients. My dish, on the other hand, was easy to get everything in one bite. Even with chopsticks. The stir fried udon was not crispy, which I was curious about. It was still toothy and delicious with the mixed vegetables and chicken. The sauce was neither overpowering nor too abundant. Everything was coated but not drowning, if that makes sense. I'm a huge fan of udon noodles and this dish was simply comforting. The menu itself is not overwhelming but there are plenty of items to choose from. I'm definitely going back and I will try not to get the same thing, but I make no promises!Price point is moderate but worth it for the amount of food. Roughly $30 for two drinks and two entrees.

It's winter. It's cold. We needed some Friday night soup to take off the chill. Laojiu has a pretty extensive soup menu, so it was the perfect spot to warm up.You order at the counter and then seat yourself (if you're dining in).We started our experience with an order of their crab rangoon, which was delicious and easily one of the best crab rangoon we've enjoyed. My my main, I ordered one of their soups with chicken and rice noodles. It comes out in a heated hot pot (boiling!). The soup has a nice little kick of spice but beyond that was just a bit bland. Our server was kind and prompt throughout our visit. The dining room is small but comfortable and the portions are ample. We all had some left to take home. While their soup wasn't exactly my cup of tea, it was hot and warmed my winter evening. I'm also anxious to come back for some of their other menu items.

This is the definition of Chinese comfort food. Perfect for cold weather. The menu seems a bit extensive but most of the dishes are noodle based with different broth substitutions available. I tried spicy and hot beef rice noodles, crab rangoon (it's off menu right now, but available), and quail eggs. If you order any broth based noodle dish, it comes out almost like in a hot pot bowl and the udon noodles are added to the bowl in front of you. The spicy and hot beef wasn't as spicy as I thought it would be. Probably like a 2/5 if you ordered. I added quite a bit of extra chili oil and it was hearty. The crab rangoon had a bit too much cream cheese for my taste and too little crab. Seating is limited and I don't know how crazy it can get on the weekends, but plenty of room was available for a Tuesday evening. Will definitely return!

Fast, clean, bright, friendly, delicious Chinese comfort food restaurant. This new place features Yunnan rice noodles (or Guo Qiao, which translates to "crossing-bridge noodles") in very hot and rich soup with various toppings. We tried the Original w.Braised Bone-In Pork, Spicy & Hot Beef Rice Noodles, Salted Crispy Chicken, Brown Sugar Sticky Rice, Pumpkin Pie, and Lychee Shrimp Balls. They were all served within 10 mins!My little one really enjoyed the lychee shrimp balls, while we ate our noodles and crispy chicken. The servers were very friendly and helpful to us. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Authentic, Yunnan-style noodle spot that's a very welcome new addition to the MKE Asian food scene! WHAT I GOT: - Thick noodles with sliced beef: 3.5/5. Presentation was nice but the taste was a bit lackluster. I did like that it was customizable since the toppings were served on the side. The broth came in a large pot and was boiling upon arrival, to which you are supposed to dump in the toppings and noodles while it's still hot. - The sliced beef was def the highlight. SO tender and not gamey at all. I wish the dish came with a more generous portion of meat.- The broth was a mala/Szechuan-style broth and was decently okay. It lacked the richness and complexity of flavor that I was hoping for. Kind of just tasted like they used an instant hotpot packet to be honest.VIBES/SERVICE: - Vibes are very casual. You order your food at the register and then the staff bring the food out to you. - Got spoken at in only Chinese by most of the staff there--I suppose that's how you know it's authentic lol! But I can imagine it would be difficult to navigate this establishment if you aren't Chinese. Regardless, the staff were so friendly and kind and did their best to help me figure out what to order. Overall thoughts: - Impressed with how genuinely authentic this spot was! Flavors and menu items were not at all diluted to cater to non-Asian audiences, which I will applaud them for. Milwaukee needs more restaurants like this!!- Def worth stopping by for a quick, casual, and comforting meal if you're feeling too lazy to cook but I do somewhat feel like I could easily make a similar dish at home because of how store-bought the ingredients tasted. I still left feeling full and satisfied though, and the leftovers tasted great the next day. - 100% will be coming back to sample more menu items!

Went for lunch on a random Saturday and it was delicious! You order at the front and then you grab your seat. We each got a noodle bowl and it was perfect for the cold day. Service was fast and good. The inside is pretty small with probably 25 seats or so. Both noodle bowls we got were delicious and very filling for the price. Highly recommend and we want to go back to try other menu items.

I decided to try this new restaurant on a whim, especially since I was feeling a little under the weather. The service was excellent - all of my questions were answered, and the staff was happy to offer suggestions, which I really appreciated! The dishes were prepared with a traditional Chinese approach, and both the broth and noodles were flavorful and comforting. The portion size was generous, with plenty of noodles and broth, and the egg rolls were delicious as well. I'll definitely be back to explore more of their menu. Thanks for the great service!
