For about 10 years now, I have made it a point to visit this restaurant multiple times a year. What I appreciate most is the ever-changing farm to table menu. I love the fact that the owner is actually a wonderful person and teaches culinary school locally. He employs the same mother and daughter and on occasion another wait staff so you always know what to expect And you get that "if you're here youre family" feel but not Olive Garden, fine dining. What it doesn't say on the menu is if you order an entrée, there is a super salad included. Everything is not alacarte like most fancy restaurants. You will not be nickel and dimed. It comes with a very small, complementary appetizer, bread, basket, and butter and spread. After reading other reviews, I will say that the food is definitely on the saltier side, but in my opinion in a very good way. It's a unique dining experience and definitely worth the money. I would absolutely give them a try.

Another yelper recommended French Lagniappe for a special birthday dinner & it was a hit for a nice night. We were able to make a last-minute reservation and enjoy the patio for dinner. The restaurant is in the middle of the busy Greenfield Avenue. It could be easily missed, but a cute old building. The lobby & bar are very small, but the ambiance is welcoming and clean. It wasn't very busy or late, and many of the specials were sold out for the day on the limited, every changing menu. The server recommended the featured drink, rhubard old-fashioned. It was very refreshing something different. For dinner, we ordered the salmon and steak, which were both cooked to perfection and very tasty. Salad was a starter with a bread basket and citrus balsamic dressing and all very fresh. We will be back hoping to try the duck.

Where do I begin? Went to celebrate a birthday. Took the 5:15 pm seating and were the first ones there at 5 pm. It's a cute old home but there were many cobwebs above and next to our table. Server, Zoe, was great. Personable, kind, helpful and attentive. She did drop one item which she replaced. Thankfully she identified cabbage on my plate which I'm unable to eat. She offered to bring asparagus and I agreed, but it never came. Luckily I'd had the delicious cream of asparagus soup and had plenty of other food to eat. Some of the food was delicious and some of it was lacking. The bread was quite thin and airy but the butter was so hard it could barely be spread. There was dill in the olive oil which I would have preferred not be there but not a big deal. Couldn't identify the flavors the brown butter contained and didn't get the info. They ran out of rolls by 5:30 pm. A good crusty French bread would be a positive addition to the table. The stale bread can be used for croutons on French onion soup which I'd have loved to see on the menu. Speaking of the menu, we emailed to make our reservation, and I asked for the menu. Several of the items had changed from the menu I received. The squash soup changed to asparagus, but the choux which sounded so good was missing from the dessert options. We ordered a ribeye and a Wagyu beef dinner. Each dinner comes with either a soup or salad. The salad was mixed field greens, so we each opted for a cream of asparagus soup, which was delicious with a bit of balsamic vinegar reduction, drizzled on top.The entrées are pricey, and I enjoyed the mashed potatoes with the Wagyu beef. I ate the few small rounds of zucchini but did not care for the roasted turnips, and I could not eat the cabbage. My husband had the ribeye, which was quite thin and a bit fatty. The fingerling potatoes were purple, which is a nice color addition to the plate, but were not fried as we were told they would be. The potatoes seemed to be a bit undercooked. I was debating a dessert and then I asked if they do anything for birthdays. She said they were making my birthday dessert. I wish I had been given an option. I received a slice of chocolate cake with buttercream frosting. The frosting was hard because it had either been frozen or refrigerated and not removed timely enough for it to soften. The cake was dry and tasteless and had a layer of what looked like hard halva someplace in the middle. I could not even break or cut it. I'm not sure why this hard and chewy layer was even in the middle of a cake. I can't recall the last time I left a dessert unfinished before this one. But it just wasn't good. I wish I'd not even tried it. The pecans on top were the best part. I'm glad I'm not allergic to chocolate or nuts. No one asked about this before bringing it out but it might be wise in future to inquire about allergies if bringing a food item which was not ordered by the diner to their table? Just a suggestion. I wish I would've gotten the sorbet or the banana torte; I'd have asked for it had I been asked. At the price point of this establishment and the fact that you can't see the menu prior to reserving a table which must be done 24 hours or more in advance, you'll have to take your chances that there will be something you like on the menu. A romaine or iceberg wedge salad with Roquefort might be a good idea to offer. Overall, the service and main food was pretty good, so we might give it another try.

I have been wanting to try this restaurant. My husband and I made reservations the day of for Saturday 7pm. We arrived a little early and had a short wait for our table. The restaurant and parking lot is really small. It looks like it was an old house. The patio had some nice string lighting but it was way too cold for patio seating! We were seated and served water but it took awhile until our server came by to take our drink order which was not a big deal. As all places, they were short staffed with people wearing multiple hats, plus a night away there's no rush to get back home. We were brought some bread slices and some butter, olive oli & chives (?), and baba ganoush. Some small sample of something soup or chili like. The menu is a small one pager. We ordered the Atlantic Sea Scallops and Chicken Ballotine for appetizers. For dinner I had the lamb with mash potatoes, some sautéed cabbage. My husband ordered the Terres Major "Madeira". The menu online is not the same as what was currently at the restaurant. Scallops were seasoned and cooked perfectly. Not overwhelming seasoned so you can still taste the sweetness of the scallops. Chicken was not dry and not over sauced. My husband finished his meal but I had a second order of bread slices so I was full and had tasty next day left overs. The one con with the lamb chops it was a little bit hard to navigate around the bones to get the meat.Overall great dinner with friendly service. Atmosphere is like a supper club. It was an older crowd. If you are looking for a small quaint place, this is the place. It is small so it can be loud, especially once drinks start flowing.

Treated a good friend to lunch today for a belated birthday celebration. We both enjoyed the artichoke soup. My friend had the quiche and I tried the skate for the first time in my life which was accompanied with colorful potatoes, zucchini and beautifully paired chutney - it was heavenly! Now for dessert - it was so beautifully plated. It looked too good to eat but we were intrigued- almond meringue pavlova with pineberry - OMG so delightful. Lagniappe means a small gift and this restaurant is truly a big gift to New Berlin. Do not hesitate to give it a try you will not be disappointed.

Solid, consistent, very fairly priced. Good food albeit somewhat slow service - allows you time to savor.

My Szechuan NY Strip and Heirloom tomato salad from my carry-out visit in April were both outstanding, and today I suggested Lagniappe for lunch with a friend! I rarely get to Lagniappe for lunch because I normally work downtown, but I'm still working from home now, so I took advantage of the opportunity to get their Kobe Burger which is only available for lunch and one of the best burgers I've ever had!The beef patty is made from New Zealand Grass-fed Wagyu. Standard cheese options are Swiss Emmentaler or smoked Michigan Gouda (I'd like to see Wisconsin's Marieke Gouda replace this one, but I've also never had the Michigan Gouda), but I upgraded to a Hook's Fifteen Year Cheddar for $2 more. I don't even like cheddar on a burger because it's too sharp and overpowers the flavor of the burger for me (my personal preference), but how could I pass up an upgrade to Hook's Fifteen Year for only $2 ?!?! Yes, it did overpower the burger patty flavor, as I expected, but it was still one of the best burgers I've ever had! I chose the housemade Gaufrette chips (criss cross potato chips) as my side instead of the Jade rice, sesame, & carrot salad or the cottage cheese (do people even order this?). Ok, I got ahead of myself. I actually started with Split Pea soup. Split Pea soup has been hit or miss with me, so I typically won't order it, but this one was made witj ground sausage and portobello mushrooms, so yeah, I'm all over that! It was the best Split Pea soup I've ever had, and I can't see anyone doing better, but I'm open to trying it if you think you've had a better one.My friend started with the Roasted Chicken Salad, which looked amazing with crispy chicken skin! I would order it in a heartbeat if I saw it on the menu again, and probably even get it as my entree with soup as my starter. It was a nice size portion. Her entree was Atlantic Fluke with roasted potatoes and beets, and she loved that, too! There is a reason this place has been around 16 years and survived the pandemic. If you haven't been yet, make it happen! They are open for dine in for lunch and dinner, and they are as busy as they were before, so I suggest making a reservation. Being back to normal business also means they are back to changing their menu daily, which is another reason Lagniappe Brasserie is still my favorite restaurant in Waukesha County!

Totally surprised with the great dinners we had tonight. Never heard about this place when recommended by a friend. Gave it a try, and wow! Flavors and textures totally different and better than I've ever experienced in my 80+ years. This is going to be our regular place to dine.

The food here is AMAZING. I could eat their food for every meal and be insanely happy because of it, if only that could be possible! On a more serious note, due to my busy schedule I've only done takeout from them so I can't comment on how the dine in experience is, but from what I know, everything is superb. They really go above and beyond, for instance, my husband really loves their homemade salad dressing. They offered to give me the recipe, and the next time I went they gave me a container full of the dressing for my husband. When my schedule allows for it, I'd visit them as frequently as every other day, and I've never regretted it. Their menu is constantly changing, which is terrific for those who enjoy trying new and different things, but there are some staples that don't change too much for those that prefer going back to their favorites.I really can't recognize Lagniappe enough. We'll have to move in a couple of years and I'm already sad now that it'll mean I won't be able to visit Lagniappe as often as I can now.

We had dinner at Lagniappe while entertaining out of town friends and thoroughly enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere. It's no stretch to think of this as a French brasserie, and we will be back. Well done, Lagniappe.
