I'm still trying to do my part in supporting local business so I wanted Mexican for lunch today and I'm a big fan of going right to the source, Mexico town like what a China town is which is a section of the city that has numerous Mexican restaurants and shops. Honestly I don't think I have ever been disappointed in the food from this are and today was no exception. The place is very small to start with so C19 distance rules have reduced the sitting area to about 25% of the dining room or 4 booths. The menu is big but I do love me my combination plate so that's what I ordered.I was promptly give salsa and warm chips and I ordered a margarita and the combination plate. The salsa looked good and it was because it was chunky with heat and the chips were seasoned. The combination plate is one pork taco, one cheese enchilada and a steak tostada with rice and beans. I thought that the margarita was average and not as good as the food by the way.The pork taco was delicious with moist seasoned pork. The steak tostada was also delicious with moist seasoned steak, beans, tomato, sour cream and shredded cheese. The cheese enchilada was covered in a red sauce and cheese which was also good. The bean were tasty and better than average that I really liked. The rice was cooked perfect but I always mix the rice and beans together and top it with the salsa because it's what I do with Mexican food.I completely enjoyed my food and this is why I go right to the source and I know that some people probably have an issue with that part of town but I have never had problem.

This is quite possibly my favorite Mexican restaurant in all of Milwaukee. Damn Gina! Soooo tasty! Lemme tell you all about it! I got the bistec encebollado. It's steak, onions, avocado, rice, beans, a grilled jalapeno, and a salad of lettuce and a tomato slice. It was comforting, flavorful and filling without being heavy. The meal comes with tortillas. Here's the thing, I love onions. I mean love. L-O-V-E. This is an onion lover's dish with a ton of delicious, caramelized onions. Score! Now let's be honest. In many Mexican restaurants the rice and beans are sad. Very sad. I mean sometimes I just order tacos a la carte because of the sad rice and beans. This is not the case here! These are the very best rice and beans that I've ever had. I'd come here just for rice and beans. True story. The rice is packed full of flavor and moisture. The tortilla chips were basic. The restaurant itself has a down home vibe. There are TV's playing Sunday football. And men wearing cowboy hats. It's a small dining room that offers booth seating as well as tables and chairs.

Asking the employees of nearby Ben's Cycles for a place to get Mexican, they said hands down I had to head to "La Salsa." Walking a few buildings down the block in fairytale-like snow, I embraced the warmth of the restaurant. The interior left much to be desired, but that's not why I was there. The server came over with chips and water. I got the Camarones A La Diabla, which was $11-12, not the $9.95 price Yelp has listed. The shrimp came with a sauce of chipotle peppers and sautéed onions, nicely seasoned and quite spicy. I like super spicy food and the shrimp were at a good level for me. It came with rice and avocado and six tortillas. The value was definitely there as I could only eat half of my meal and had the rest for the next day's lunch. I'd say it was even better the next day as the flavors had a chance to blend together. I didn't get the guac, but I've had it before at an event and it is awesome. It was good, authentic food. The server was nice and attentive.

La salsa is our favorite authentic Mexican restaurant in all of Milwaukee. Our favorite dishes are the bistec encebollado and enchiladas Rojas de pollo. The prices are incredibly affordable and the restaurant is of humble ambiance. We absolute love la salsa

Warning: this place is not for people who want Mexican food that is not above-average spicy. For good, authentic Mexican food at a great price, you can't beat La Salsa.I was going to see a play at the nearby Basilica, about the history of Milwaukee. Specifically, the fair housing marches back in the 70s. If only those Poles knew that 30 years later they would have a beautifully diverse collection of people in Lincoln Village, and that the rich cultural heritage of Central and South America would dominate. Anyway, I was feeling a little cold coming on and wanted posole. La Salsa does not have posole, but they do have amazing soups that are large, hearty and hot! This place is not necessarily gourmet, but it has a few things going for it: clean, delicious, cheap, spicy. A huge meal for two with 1 drink each was a little over $20. There was a LOT leftover, which was great later that night.Rating: 2.5 Food, 1 Service, .5 Environment.

My husband and I are frequently eating here. It is my all time and my number one place for authentic Mexican food. Margaritas are top notch! Never had an issue with any of the service and they keep the chips and salsa coming....yummy!

First time here. A very odd place ! The doors are on the opposite side at the entrance !Dingy little place and the cook was actually trying to sing in the back of the house with a loud music noise from the 80s ! It sounded like he was crying at the same time he was trying to sing! Really? I ordered the bictec ala Mexican, can't really mess up a simple dish right ? But they can! The salsa was sour and the steak also ! Nasty I walk out of there hoping not to get sick and never ever eat there again !!

Ate here at recommendation of Ben's Cycle and had an excellent lunch! Both my husband and I had enchiladas suiza de pollo (hubby wanted mole but they were out) and really loved them! Complimentary salsa and chips were excellent, spicy yet flavorful!! Will def be back!
