Great place for tacos. Great service, and they have lengua, chorizo, and all sorts of great meat tacos. Vegetarians can ask for veggie tacos (not on menu) and those are better than vegetarian options elsewhere in Beloit. They have a new special with three tacos with rice and beans. It's a good deal of you're hungry, but tacos are the star. Don't forget to get grilled onions, they are divine.

La Mexicana is, as the other review so perfectly put it, a small little place in the back of a small neighborhood grocery store. The grocery store itself is packed with spices, fruits and veggies, and a butcher, everything one would need to make up dinner for that night, or to shop for the week. The restaraunt is located down a small set of stairs just off of the store. It's not a fancy or well decorated place but, to me anyway, that adds to the atmosphere and makes it unique. The food is superb. Authentic Mexican ingredients and flavors spice up every dish and make it a flavorful treat. The staff were very friendly and more then accommodating. Everything was great, and it is definently a new spot for me when I need to shop, or get a bite to eat.

A great little neighborhood dive! In the culinary wasteland of Beloit, La Mexicana's offering has saved me time and time again from despair or, worse, Tace Bell!In the front is a very complete little grocery. The produce is always better and cheaper then the surrounding supermarkets, plus they have special items like prickly pear and tomatillos that you can't find elsewhere. The same goes for the meat and dry goods (masarepa? good luck finding that anywhere else!)Nestled in the back is a little five-table cafe serving cheap, delicious Mexican dishes. For five bucks you can get a massive burrito, filled with perfectly moist shredded chicken, well-seasoned beef, steak, or (my personal favorite) the pork 'al pastor' (*note* for 50 cents extra, they'll melt a slice of chihuaha cheese on top. just ask to have your burrito 'nuevo oeste' or 'new west' style)Other highlights include the deliciously crisp chiles rellenos and the horchata (sweetened rice milk)My personal favorite are the tongue ('lengua') tacos. Served with lime, onion, and cilantro, they'e small but only $1.50 each. Definitely get a few, and add plenty of salsa verde!Cheap, low-key, and not too greasy, La Mexicana defies its divey barrio atmosphere.

Yo this place hooks it up fat. I have never had the best Elote and I'm from California. It's cheap it feels like home and overall is a happy establishment. I've been to multiple restaurants in the Beloit.
