I am disappointed that the staff allow customers to enter and purchase items without always wearing a mask. And, when asked about this, the very nice checker said "We have to serve them." I also am disappointed to see the men at the meat counter with masks below their noses and chins. I have decided that I need to stay away until they are more serious about everyone's health, or until the end of this pandemic. I have been a regular customer for years and have always felt well treated. This, however, has made me frustrated and I must draw a line.

The next time you eat a burger in Madison that is really good, ask the waiter where they get their meat. You would be surprised how often the answer is Knoche's. They are easily batting over 900 for me at this pointIs it locally sourced? I don't think so as most places would prominently advertise that fact, but local or no the meat is definitely a cut above something you will find in any grocery store around here which is why we don't mind spending a few extra dollars here. If you buy the rest of your groceries here you'll be appropriately gougedTheir website lists the weekly specials

My go to place for meat. (it took me forever to find such a place in this butcher-less town).Everyone in this town think Jacobson brothers is the place to turn for their butched meat needs. I think this is mostly because ya'all think there is a correlation between the dollar amount and meat quality.Jacobson brothers did not come to the rescue when I needed a 8 pound fresh ham to brine. Knoche's did. Knoche's seems to carry every part of the cow and pig. Some parts are not on display in the case, and are hidden away in the basement freezer. I found this out on my most recent meat hunt -- for short ribs. Ask the the cute aproned men to run down and get them. While not the cheapest priced cuts in town, they are reasonably priced and fairly high quality. Furthermore, you can feel good shopping at a locally owned joint. They also have family recipes of chili, potato salad, bratwursts, etc that I am always tempted to try.

This is a quaint butcher shop on Madison's west side that has been there FOREVER! What does that mean? They rock! Top quality meats (many locally raised) and killer staff...this is what I imagine going into a butcher shop in the 70's was like! They will answer any and all of your questions, give you cooking tips, and even help you pick out the best piece of meat. We recently bought a Big Green Egg smoker and they were fabulously helpful teaching us about what cuts to look for! I've bought full packer briskets, pork shoulders, t-bones, ribeyes, sirloins, and whole chickens from here an NEVER been disappointed! They also have a great craft beer and wine selection as well (it's hard to find Anchor Steam out of San Fran in town...and they have it)! Love this shop...you should definitely make it a staple on your shopping list!

Great little grocery store and butcher. Great meats. Delicious potato salad. My pup loves the marrow bones we bring him from here. Since it's a little on the pricy end (more than woodman's or copps, less than whole foods) we tend to not do our general shopping here. Since it's a couple blocks from home we pick things up quite frequently when we realize we need something quickly (usually while cooking dinner). Unfortunately it closes fairly early (I think 7PM) and is closed on Sundays. It tends to smell a little funny-- I'm not sure if it's the butcher shop or just odors that it has picked up from people coming in and out.

The smell in this store is off and odd. Bought brownies the other day and when I ate them, realized they must have absorbed the smell of the store and taste like the store stank! The meat here is wonderful and we are always happy with the selection but they need to reel in whatever is stinking the place up.

We walked in for a specific meat cut. The "butcher" at the counter said they didn't have it. They had a similar cut but it would have to be sliced. His response was you have to give us advance notice for that. I looked around at the EMPTY meat market and left. Didn't look busy I see no reason why someone can't do their job...unless they're a lazy slob. So if you're looking for an actual butcher, this is NOT the place.

My daughter hosted Christmas and determined to make a standing rib roast. I shot to Madison to assist her with shopping and cleaning for the event. I asked her about meat markets in her area and she googled or yelped and came up with this place, which happened to be conveniently located by her residence. Upon entering the store, I was reminded of a neighborhood small grocers...I liked that. At the meat counter we were greeted with a smile and a request for our order. I had questions re advisable size for 6, and if the grade of meat was PRIME. The fellas behind the counter were knowledgeable and helpful. While checking out we were met with the same friendliness. I love spending my hard-earned money at places that appear to appreciate my business. Having said all of that, the meat itself was phenomenal! Tender, flavorful, juicy...in a word, succulent! Where I live, there are very few butcher shops that I trust my discerning pallet and sensitive tummy to. Hubby and I both agree that driving to this market is worth the time/effort...and we live an hour away!
