Legitimate authentic Mexican food. I really liked the al pastor and the chorizo. Dine-in service is a bit odd. You order at the counter for delivery to the table. To leave you'll need to get your check from a server. Clean restaurant in a somewhat sketchy neighborhood.

This is a great late night (after bar close) spot. The place can fill up pretty fast. They need to find a better process when they get busy because the service is really slow so make sure to expect this if going late. The food is good, I normally get the steak tacos with cilantro and onion and the carne en su jugo. This soup is amazing, it is so full of flavor with a perfect mix of bacon, steak, avocado, beans. If you are looking for something other than tacos, try this soup!

I've been comingTo los portables since I was a child. It's always been so good. You can't pass up authentic Mexican food! I love getting a chorizo torta con aguacaté, or chorizo tacos, steak tacos, any kind of taco they have! With your order they serve crema, and a mild salsa or spicy salsa to help play up your taco. If you eat here, try their orchata for a drink. It's super delicious and refreshing! When we order Los Portales, we usually like to carry out because the atmosphere is just cold and bland, but I promise the tacos are to die for! The food is truly what it tastes like to eat in Mexico City. Natural, and authentic at its finest. If you don't like it, then you probably don't like REAL Mexican food, jus sayin'!

Great tacos. They ate street style tacos, which is my favorite. I tried the steak, chicken, and chorizo and found all was very yummy. The place is very clean, the staff seem extremely nice, and the service was great.

This is my go to spot for Tacos in Rockford. Very affordable and quantity is great! They also open late, so it's a great spot for late night tacos after the bar. I have gone several times and it's been consistent. The servers are attentive and service is always on point, even when it gets extremely busy. I usually get either the tacos or the nachos with crispy tripas, with a michelada on the side. My husband and I go and we never spend more than $20 for the both of us. When you don't want to cook and is looking for a Taco Tuesday night, this is where you should go.Even if you don't want to dine in there, you can always order ahead of time and go pick it up. They also give you 2 sauces for every 3 tacos, you'll need to purchase additional if you want more. I hope it continues to stay consistent as I can't find any other taco spot like this in town!

This place was amazing!! This was my first time here and I loved it!! I was just completely blown away by everything I ate here. I got a steak torta, which was amazing! They have a selection of bottled sodas which I loved. The horchata was amazing as well. I got flan for dessert and it was the best I've ever had. Service was very timely and everyone running the place was so kind. The place was very clean and cute inside. If I could give this more than 5 stars I definitely would. Totally gonna coming back soon!

I've been going to Los Portales for years. In the beginning food portions were big, the food was grandma good and the service was quick/friendly. But now, the portion are small, the food is low quality and the service is that of a cafeteria. Last Friday, I went with my wife to give los portales another chance after a previous meal that was disappointing. We ordered guac and chips, three taco especials and a burrito dinner. The guac was a tiny portion that had no salt in it. How do you make guac without salt? My wife's three barbacoa taco especials were she said, "decent", but my burrito (steak and chorizo) was tiny, had burnt meat in (and little of it) and lacked the sour cream, cheese and guac I ordered extra. Just imagine a room temperature burrito wrap with watery lettuce and tomato in it with burnt meat. The service, which used to be friendly was awful. I couldn't even get two glasses of water. She asked if we were ready and left the second we got done talking. She never checked back in us after our food came, but I noticed she did with the other tables that had Mexicans and blacks. She was not liking to have to serve white people. Lastly, the atmosphere was insane. It was date night for my wife and I so I held my tongue. Every table was either talking on their phone (speaker phone) playing videos or music or was just plain ghetto loud. I will not be back to waste my money. These Mexicans are Mexicants when it comes to cooking. This white boy can cook your food better than you.

Solid food, fast service. Parking lot might be sketchy at night. Place is a little run down inside but seemed clean.

I joined friends for a drink after eating elsewhere. They really enjoyed their food and everything I tasted was delicious. While the service was very friendly, we did have a hard time because the waitress didn't speak much English. She was a sweetheart, though, and grabbed one of the chefs to translate in order to make sure everything was right. She checked in frequently and made sure our drinks were full. The ambiance isn't anything special, but the food and friendly staff make up for it.
