Hunan 1

A culinary OG on College Avenue. Hunan 1 always delivers well seasoned, generously portioned, and bargain priced meals for the entire family. Their General Tso chicken is the stuff of legend for the Fox Valley community and generations of Lawrence University students. Service is always friendly and efficient. Tables always clean and freshly bused.

This place has been a fixture throughout my childhood into my adult years. It's no frills cheap Chinese food. You get a hot meal at a great price. If you looking for something mind blowing this isn't your place but if you're looking for something quick and cheap this is it.

I looked all over for several years for a good Chinese takeout spot in the Fox Valley. After 6 years I found it. Service is fast, and food is always hot. My favorites are the Hot &Spicy (chicken or shrimp) from the Szechuan style part of menu. The Mei Fun is good and so is the General Tso's chicken.

this last order was garbage . hunan chicken ? chicken with broccoli and watered down sauce , egg rolls ? now mini egg rolls with zero flavor .. the fortune cookies even tasted stale . general chicken was like frozen food heated up....nothing was at the quality i've seen before. Not sure i will eat hear ever again .

Hunan 1 was a staple when I was in college (it was cheap and right across the street from where I lived), and I continued to frequent there when I'm back in town. It's inexpensive Chinese food, and while it may not be the best Chinese you'll ever get, it's certainly well worth the price in my opinion.They have a special discount menu for Lawrence University students, which is a huge bonus, and they deliver as well (pretty good delivery range too, I used to live up off of Ballard and 441 and they'd deliver all the way up there, lickety-split!).The food, as I mentioned, while not outstanding has always been consistently good and the portions are pretty big (I always get at least two meals out of it, if not three, which makes them even more economical).The atmosphere inside is a little on the dingy/worn side. It's not really dirty, per se, there's just not a lot going on. I've stayed there to eat a couple times, but usually I have it delivered or am taking it elsewhere.Overall, a solid, economical option for Chinese, and one I continue to go back to because I know what to expect.

ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACEWent here one day in search of a new place for some good Chinese and no matter what anyone says the do a great job! Very good bang for your buck too! Myself and wife can spend 20$ and eat almost 3 full meals from leftovers!

Hunan 1 offers good tasting food for a quick delivery. We have been ordering from them multiple times a month for years now. I am not giving 5 stars as I have noticed their egg rolls have lost their quality and they recently changed their take out containers to a cheap black plastic. Big fan that they have an online coupon that you can mention for free crab rangoons with qualifying order!

Definitely not the best choice for Chinese food in the Fox cities, would highly recommend looking at other places and not wasting time or money on hunan 1. My wife and I both got sick from the sesame chick, which also didn't taste right. Rice was under cooked and partially raw/crunchy. Extremely low quality.

As we live in NYC, we believe we have been exposed to some very good Chinese food. Last week, we only ordered hot & sour soup, but it was some of the best we have ever had. No pork or wood ear fungus, but it had fresh mushrooms. If/ when we return to Appleton we look forward to trying more items.

Chicken was disgusting. General Tsos chicken was unable to chew. You get what you pay for! Rammen is way better.
