Happy Jack's Submarines and Fine Ice Cream

Visited again today and once again enjoyed the quaint atmosphere. Food was good as always and I found out that they air fry a lot of their food including their fries. Everything was crispy although that would explain why the salt didn't stick to the fries! Tried their ice cream and the french silk was oh so good!

Stopped in for a bit of nostalgia...I was a luncher here about 10 years ago! Still busy as ever with such a diverse customer base. Great service at the counters and fast turnaround times make this a great stop.Decided to go with the counter favorite...the Super Happy Jack! Did not disappoint at all as it was filling--lots of meat, cheese and fresh veggies on a perfectly chewy, crisp crusted Italian bread. I added on a small side of the traditional potato salad (outstanding with skin on red potatoes, creamy dressing and black pepper!) Too bad I didn't save room for a shake, but it is swimsuit season...I love the interior design and soda fountain feel tothis shop. Don't miss out on this great institution in McHenry. Grab some subs, fries and a couple of shakes and find a picnic spot at the lake. Support the small business owners and give them your business! Kudos to Happy Jacks--give them a try for a fabulous filling sandwich and cool, frosty treat!

Just a solid place to get a sandwich. The bread, I believe Turano, is always great and fresh. If you're getting fries, ask for them crispy otherwise (because they air fry them) they are soggy. Ingredients are always fresh as well. Jack is a nice dude, been around forever, and McHenry is a better place because of him!

Adorable ambiance of Coca-Cola theme. Fun for kids. Good icecream. Great friendly staff. Food is basic American fare.

Second time my wife and I have gone here, first time I ordered Hot Dogs because I saw a sign that they had Vienna Dogs which I like. I asked that they put every thing on them like a Chicago Dog. There were three other customers there in the place. After waiting 15 to 20 minutes I receive the order. There was a little mustard, little relish and no onions. Plus the dogs were cold. Wife had a half Sub sandwich to which she said was OK.Decided to try again, ordered two dogs with everything and a Chile dog. Was a little busy but it took 20 minute to get our order. Got my dogs there was no mustard and three small pieces of onion. Showed the girl at the counter and she told me to get mustard package from counter and put it on myself, also handed me a cup with some onions to put on myself also, the dogs were not warm. I guess that what you call good service. Wife's Chile dog looked like it had a spoonful of Chile on it.Her Dog was also cool and she said the Chile was bland.I believe this visit will be the last. If you go here don't order the dogs. The other sand wichs might be OK I don't know.

Food was great in my opinion! I really enjoyed my Turkey bacon club! The fries could use a little seasoning, and I don't recommend the kids nuggets, maybe go with the corn dogs instead. Prices seemed fair and we'd probably be back.

What a great little place! Shakes, Chicago style hotdog were great! Our only complaint was the fries, it seems like they cook them in an air fryer and no salt! Can't have salt free fries! Lol The ladies working were so nice and funny. The wait was pretty long for hot dogs and fries but we blamed it on the air fryer fries haha (we have no idea if they really use an air fryer but it def tasted like it)

Steer clear Bland Italian sausage Italian Beef is bought in a bag and over heated DRY. THEY can't even get the French fries DRY. FREEZER BURNED flavor less no salt. Do Not stop here.
