Great Taste

I can't say that this is the best Egg Fu Yung in Milwaukee if I haven't tried everyone (although some make such claims), but this one is VERY GOOD because the portions are generous, the flavor is outstanding and the price is reasonable. You try too! (10/14/2024)

I have been jonesing for some Chinese food for awhile and was not in the mood to drive to my usual spot. So I stopped here about 2 weeks ago after work and from reading the reviews and looking at the pictures I felt this may be my new back up place to go to grab dinner for carry out. I usually order the same thing and on occasion will order something different but because this was my first time ordering form here I feel going with the shrimp fried rice and house egg rolls would be the way to go.The shrimp fried rice was full of shrimp which I really liked. There was enough rice in there to split with 2 people, but I was quite hungry so I was able to kill the whole pint. I ordered 2 house eggrolls. I really liked the flavor of them, but there were a couple things to address. One of the eggrolls was a tad greasy and had to get a paper towel and dab of the excess oil. There was barely any shrimp in the eggrolls and they could have a little more filling.Overall, I would for sure order from here again and I can't believe I haven't ordered from here considering how many times I have drove past this place. When I went to pick up my food I grabbed a menu and I saw that they offer lunch specials which is something to consider when I'm working from home.

We wanted a quick meal on a Thursday evening and this place was only two blocks away and offered take out quickly. We approached the register and a clerk was ready to take our order of a combination dinner of beef and broccoli with egg rolls and fried rice. Not more than 10 minutes went by and our food was ready to take home and consume. There were a few more vegetables than just broccoli and we were happy for that. The rice was a chicken fried rice blend and the crispy egg rolls were good. A fortune cookie for all three of us was included

This place sucks. Got DoorDash fromHere for my birthday today and it's so mediocre. I didn't even get utensils. Everything is about money and not quality like. Ugh. I hate that I wasted my money on this raggedy place.

I recently tried a different Chinese restaurant a few blocks east of Great Taste (also on North Ave), so having that experience fresh in my mind, I decided to give Great Taste a try and compare the two. I didn't have as much time on my hands for a full meal like I did with the other restaurant, so I just ordered a pair of house egg rolls (pork and shrimp) to go.I regret that it's taken me so long to try Great Taste. In this area of Milwaukee/Wauwatosa I usually use China East's egg roll as the gold standard for comparison. The house egg roll from Great Taste is just as good as China East's and I could reasonably be convinced that it's better. For sure, it's far better than the egg rolls from the other restaurant on North Ave. The filling may be heavy on cabbage, but it's absolutely freshly made with no hint of store bought quality. I found multiple pieces of pork and shrimp in each egg roll, which impressed me because shrimp tends to get skimped on when it's not the only protein in an egg roll. They're a little pricier than others at $2.50 each as of 1/26/23, but I'd rather pay more for a better egg roll than settle for a lesser, cheaper one.I'm also impressed that the menu lists out the ingredients for items like the lo mein. Most Chinese restaurants will simply say "soft noodles" or something like that under the lo mein header. I appreciate knowing all of the ingredients in advance so I'm prepared and informed when I place my next order. The menu has multiple items on it that interest me, so I look forward to stopping again soon.

Great service, House egg rolls are great! Fantastic shrimp fried rice. Other dishes range from very good to excellent. Mainly take out but four tables for eat in.

It's all in the name! Great taste = great service, great food, and great prices! If you're wanting quick and easy take out, or a chill place to eat, this is your spot. Best parts about this place is how nice the staff is, and also how generous they are with their serving sizes despite the price. I love it here!

I stopped here for lunch not expecting much because most Chinese food is average with the tiny egg roll with mush on the inside. The place has tables and chairs but it's not set up so it looks like take out and it was dead which had me thinking I picked the wrong place for lunch. I ordered the Mongolian beef combination plate with an egg roll and chicken fried rice. The bag was kinda weighty so that was a good sign. WOW the house egg roll was a beautiful full sized one with pork and shrimp. The egg roll was nice and crispy with fresh crispy cabbage and good flavor, way better than most places because it wasn't soggy frozen crap. The chicken fried rice had lots of big chunks of chicken and probably the most chicken in a fried rice combination plate. The rice also had good flavor like a char flavor from a seasoned wok. The Mongolian beef had tender beef with that sweetness and flavorful also.Overall this Chinese restaurant was very good and better than expected/average and I would definitely go back again just for the egg rolls.

My first time food was delicious. Me and my daughter enjoyed what we ordered and I will return back.

Stopped in quickly for an order of chicken fried rice, and extremely impressed with their fried rice. I typically frequent a different Chinese restaurant on North Ave, but since they're closed until August 1st, I stopped here for the first time. Great Taste has cheaper fried rice and it's delicious! Called and ordered so easily and quickly and the cashier was friendly and offered silverware, although I declined. Will definitely be back and try other foods!
