Gilles Frozen Custard Drive-In

I love Gilles! It's a fun place during the summertime but also year round with great custard flavors and monthly specials. I have yet to try their food aside from the fries, but everything always looks so good.They have a punch card that every 10 quarts you buy you get the next one free.

Gille's Frozen Custard is a great place to get frozen custard if you need a solution to your sweet tooth. I'm a huge frozen custard enthusiast and Gille's is the real deal. They always have a Flavor of the Day, plus several custard sundaes to choose from. Gille's even accommodated me when I asked if I could make the Flavor of the Day the base of one of their sundaes. This small Tosa spot can get quite busy on a summer evening, but luckily they have tables and speakers outside so you don't have to wait inside for your order to be called. I need to go back to try their food--especially the side of onion ring/fry mix, which I've never seen as an offering at other frozen custard/burger joints. Clever!

A non-custard review. We had the Gilles Dog, which is a hot dog with their Sloppy Joe topping. That was really good. Nice taste to the Sloppy Joe sauce, and the hot dog itself was great as well. We also had the Sloppy Joe, which, again, was very tasty with the sauce. Highly recommend both. Service wasn't bad, as it was busy. We were able to find a place to sit inside.

Some of the best custard in Milwaukee at great prices. I highly recommend the make your own sundae!

Great nostalgic custard/diner spot.I appreciated the option to try the custard before purchasing which led me to split my scoop. Compared to other custard spots in the area, four options is limited- even more so with the options when we visited. Chocolate and vanilla are regular flavors and there is a monthly and flavor of the day. During our visit, strawberry was the monthly flavor and monkey madness was the flavor of the day- which was a banana with chocolate flakes and cashews. I recognize that we stopped by during a busy lunch hour and there were many new young employees but there wasn't much of a workflow- which was frustrating as me and my friends waited almost 15 min for a couple of cones. The establishment has been around for 85 years... so I hope they can make some adjustments and be more successful for the busy summer season.

Phenomenal custard. Oh my god. Delicious treat for all ages and unbeatable prices. I paid $2 for a single scoop cone. Oldest custard stand in MIlwaukee - maybe in all of Wisconsin - so you know you're getting some of the tastiest custard around here. Best enjoyed on a hot summer night after a Brewers baseball game but be prepared for the line to be out the door. The lines move pretty quick. The hot food orders seem to hold things up way more than the custard orders. Friendly service - amazing the folks working behind the counter don't get more rattled with the surge of customers they get on summer nights. Parking is limited but there are more spots than you would expect for a city custard stand. Limited indoor seating and limited outdoor seating which includes some 4 tops and a few benches. There are outdoor restrooms that you need a key to access.

Wow, great place! We are camped at the fairgrounds, and I looked for an ice cream place close by. Gilles fit the bill. Mr. I enjoyed his turtle sundae. I had a sloppy joe sandwich and a strawberry milkshake. Everything was delicious and delivered fast even on a hot summer evening. Hardly any wait. Great history to this place too. Established in 1938, oldest custard stand in Wisconsin. Yum. Too bad the food and treat disappeared before I thought to take a picture. Nice young people working there too.

I haven't been to Gille's for food in quite some time, but I had lunch there yesterday and it was very good. Ordered a cheeseburger with pickle, onion and ketchup, an order of onion rings, and made it a combo so I could choose any drink with the side and drink at a reduced cost. I chose a cherry slushy. The burger was awesome, fresh and deliciously hot, moist (not dried out). and the prices were reasonable with a much better burger than can be had at the popular fast food restaurants.My wife also had a chocolate 2 scoop dish with pecans. She loved that the nuts were plentiful and miniature in size. She called them baby pecans. All for around $20. Will definitely be back several times in the coming months.

I had no idea gillies existed! Have to say Gillies is in my top 5 custard places in milwaukee! The service was great! Very welcoming and nice! The butter pecan I got was great I really did like it! The inside of the shop made me think of the times back in the day! Defiantly a great spot that's for sure!

Really nice old school vibe in Gilles. It was pretty poppin' on a Wednesday night, but service was fast and we got our custard pretty quickly! We didn't try any regular food off the menu, but it looks like nice offerings--might have to go back for a meal and try the grilled cheese next time!
