This is a great dive bar. Shannon the bartender is just the sweetest. This is a shot and beer kind of place. All the drinks were cheap and the people were sooooooooo nice! People hugging us when they were leaving. I don't think I have ever been to a place where people were so welcoming! Seriously. The restaurant is currently not open ever since Covid hit. I hope one day they can reopen the back which was supper club restaurant kind of vibe. A diamond in the rough! This place has so much darn charm. You can tell the people that used to own it back in the day put a lot of love into the place. Beautiful red seating, with incredible stain glass, and a fireplace. We spoke with people at the bar who used to work there and spoke of "how it was back the day". They tell us someone is trying to bring it back to its former glory days! I hope they are successful! I am rooting for them. Please stop and support this establishment when your in the neighborhood and need a shot and a beer!

I have had this place bookmarked for a while now so I decided to stop over for a beer lunch on Sunday. The place is a neighborhood corner bar and restaurant and I had parking at the front door so I know it's dead. The place had three people in it that were friendly and some woman asking if anyone wants popcorn as I walked in. The bar area is in the front corner and the restaurant is in then back and it's completely empty so now I'm thinking it's a bad choice for lunch.I ordered a beer and I asked to see a menu and I was informed that the restaurant is only open on Friday and Saturday but they have frozen pizza if I'm interested, no thanks because I can have frozen pizza at home. The restaurant portion is so dated with wood and leather with a nautical theme that it bordered on old school cool, see my pictures. This is a neat little bar to say the least and I'm glad to have finally stopped by even though I didn't get to eat here, maybe another time I will I will get to eat here.

Gards Schmards, you save big money you save big money. Save big money at m-------ds. If you sang that last line you might be from The Midwest, and its been burned into your DNA. Same with fish fridays at the local taverns, This is a basic triangular tavern dive good comfy seats. Outside smoking shelter. With picnic tables and seating. Near the corner pub. They are known for Fish Fry Friday and friendly people here. Drinks made right. At a good price. The bar is a bit smaller and seats are softer and parking is on the street all around the triangle.Food 5Ambiance 3Service 4Location 3Value 5

Gaaaaarrd'ss! Great dive bar with damn good drinks at a bargain price. Eric & Shannon do an awesome job behind the bar. Best of all, they are always entertaining & funny. Drink specials can be had anytime the bar is open, every hour is happy hour at Gard's. Shane rocks it in the kitchen, I especially like his Friday fish fry or the $2 burger on Saturdays. Both a deal & a kickin' meal. The joint is inviting & comfortable. The local crowd is friendly. Plenty of street parking. The place never disappoints!

My favorite dive bar! They only have 4 beers on tap. Try the fish fry on Fridays and their burger special on Saturdays. Double cheeseburgers are $2, every Saturday 12-3pm. Come watch a Packer game and enjoy a free buffet at half-time. Staff is very friendly!! Eric, the bartender, ought to be a comedian! He is so funny!

Crockpot? Check.Halloween mugs on display in August? Check.Five "for fun only" slot machines? Check.Huge Brett Favre Packers poster? Check.Friendly, old, female bartender? Check.Old dude regulars sipping on MGD? Check.A few of us stopped by Gard's during some wedding weekend downtime. It seems to be the only visible bar within a 10-block radius. We didn't feel like taking a few 40's into the cemetery so we went on in. The interior looks like it came straight off the set of a dark comedy. The decor's faded 80's with lots of red and wood. The bar area is kitschy as all hell but it's a nice enough place to grab a few drinks. I mean... there's a crockpot ON the bar. That should be reason enough to stop by.

Quite the hole-in-the-wall type bar. This place has not been updated for a very long time. The food is mediocre and the drinks are small for the price. I only go there with people that want a change a pace and want to stay close by in the neighborhood. It's not terrible but not good either.

This is not a safe bar for women. After complaining to the bartender about a patron repeatedly and loudly catcalling a female patron from across the bar, the only resolution was to insist that "both parties leave separately". However, this was not enforced and safety was jeopardized. Appalling.

I celebrated Memorial day with family remembering our loved ones who served our country that are now resting in peace. That evening, I suggested we visit our neighborhood bar Gard's since I hadn't gone in quite some time (pre-pandemic). As we walked up, some happy customers outside of the bar greeted us and we said Go Boston smiling. My fiance, my brother, and I walked into the bar and it was a full house at the bar counter so we sat on the backless stools near the game machines. My brother walked up to the bar to ask if we could sit in the dining area so we could have somewhere to set our drinks. The bartender told him no because they didn't want to get the dining area dirty. We had no problem with that. At this point halftime was now over and the bartender says you can go in the back now, what do you want to drink?. I tell him we'll sit down and decide what we want and let him know. He said loudly, "You can't come in here to just watch the game. You have to order something or you'll have to leave." Everyone got quiet. We were in shock that he assumed that was out intent. My previous visits to Gard's consisted of me being greeted by Denise, the late owners daughter. She made customers feel welcome and want to come back. We did come back, spend money and share some laughs with her and the other customers. I was extremely disappointed that my brothers first experience at Gards was ruined by this guy behind the bar that did not tend to us like patrons deserve but more like pests for some reason. I gave Gards 1 star because this place has a long long legacy in the neighborhood (if you don't know, take some time to read up on Gard's history), the laughs we shared with the people that were standing outside the bar door prior to us entering, and lastly because the bartender changed his mind and decided that we grown adults would not dirty up the dining area with our drinks, even though we didn't make it to the dining area to show him we could clean up after ourselves. Noooo, he assumed we came to sit and watch the game WITHOUT ordering from the bar. What an insult! This incident did put a slight damper on the evening, however, we left and patroned another business, BOUGHT drinks as we intended, and watched the rest of the game. CHEERS!
