I work remotely, and although I have a fantastic home office, I work from a coffee shop about once a week becaues there are just too many distractions at home. From The Ground Up is in my regular rotation of away-from-home work spaces. Some of the older reviews mention that there's no WiFi and they don't take card payments, but that is no longer the case, so don't let that deter you. It's a friendly atmosphere and the baristas are incredibly welcoming, even if you just buy one drink and sit in a booth or at a table for several hours. (Guilty.) I haven't tried the food, but it looks and smells great. My go-to drink is a mocha, and I've never had a bad mocha here in the 2+ years I've been coming in. This is a nice little coffee shop, and I'm glad we have a place like this in downtown Wisconsin Rapids.

Some of the food isn't that great, but the coffee is really good. My girlfriend and I always had great coffee there.

I love this place. Strangely enough I don't come here just for the coffee, but just because it's cool and kitschy and doesn't feel crowded like some coffee shops. There's space to spread out and read, study, play a game ... or just talk. The staff members are super friendly. Also, they have really good pastries and cookies to go with the coffee. Win win.

Great place for to sit and chillax, get caffeinated, then run around the park. Great supporters of Veterans and their families! Plenty of places to sit.

Omg. The worst caffe latte ever. Zero milk frothing skill. WAYYYYY too hot. Undrinkable. I don't even know if espresso is in it. There's no excuse for this.

Dreadful espresso. They did have soy milk though!More of a cafe and local hangout for retirees than a coffee shop from what I saw. Clean and kinda cute, but what an awful americano.

I live within 20 miles of here and have. Ever been here before. I stopped on my way to Madison for a pumpkin spice latte and a muffin. The decor was cute and there were 3 older retired men there enjoying their coffee. I didn't check and see if they had wireless or not, but I'd hang out here and do some work if they did. Latte was good and for the muffin, latte and a bottle of water I paid $7. I thought that was pretty good!

Decor was awesome. Real touch of class and throwback to Americana. Music selection was absolutely great. 60-70s blend. Didn't eat. Just went for coffee. Overall was weak. Basically watered down. Service was fine. Young lady behind the counter was incredibly friendly. Odd thing - they don't accept debit or credit cards. I never carry cash so I was lucky to have a few dollars to pay for coffee or I'd have been forced to leave. Small businesses today are face with hard decisions to save money but with access to things like Square it's pretty much inexcusable in the 21st century not to allow electronic payment.

I really wanted to give this place a higher rating. The decor is interesting and it makes for a cozy place to sip on a cup of coffee. The barrista was also very nice to talk to. Unfortunately the coffee was luke warm and weak. This was the second visit with the same results. At $2 I expect a better cup of coffee. No free wifi either.
