The people behind the counter are incredibly rude and do not speak english at all whatsoever, nor do they make an attempt. Not speaking english is no issue, but I should bring up that they appear to stare at you and analyze your moves like you are an enemy or highly disliked, almost as if you are inconveniencing them by being in their store and by being a white american. A simple "hello" would go miles in this situation. Instead you are looked at in silence. Also they have an outrageously high card minimum in order to squeeze as much money from you as possible? I could understand 5 dollars to cover expenses of running a card, but 10 dollars is like you are running a nightclub. Not going to pay nightclub prices for a few cans of kvass.

When I travel to Milwaukee, I always stop by Russian Food an Gifts! This is great store with fantastic customer service. Their food is fresh and tasty. They always add a new products that I can purchase only there. Also, LOVE the Russian toys which they are selling. Feel there like in my hometown in Ukraine.

I don't know exactly what possessed me to go check this place out. I think it was one part adventurous boredom, one part having an interesting in the ex-USSR, and one part reconnecting with an old ex-girlfriend and learning that her Russian immigrant husband gets most of his groceries from a place like this and wanting to have the experience for myself.Honestly, for me, a big draw was the alcohol. When I lived in Riverwest I would often pass this place on the bus and catch a glimpse of the vodka-gun out of the corner of my eye. Now, I know that liquor in a fancy bottle isn't necessarily likely to be good liquor, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't intrigued by it. The selection of vodkas was even more than you might expect, but where I was really surprised was by the wines. I'm not a big wine drinker, but I still walked out with a bottle of very good Armenian pomegranate wine, and for a great price too.The clerk was super friendly and soft-spoken, which I didn't expect at all.I would definitely go back.

I have always wanted to study Russian in college. Actually, it was one of the reasons I switched to UW-Milwaukee. But, life happened, and now I am studying Human Resources Management with a minor in ASL. Anywhosers......My interest in the Russian language drove me to find out that there is a Russian "convenience" store right on the East Side! Who would've guessed! I was extremely excited to go in and have a look. I think I have ventured to RF&G about five times now and everytime I go back I find something new. I like their vodka, candy, and meats. Most of their candy is from a company called ROSHEN. I really like the orange, lemon, and green apple candy. Usually I take one or two to work every day. What else... Oh, the staff is super friendly. I remember the first time I went with my girlfriend the woman had a hard time explaining the different types of candy, so we got five different bags. Last time we went was a dude who spoke Ukrainian or Russian.. not sure... but then he spoke perfect English. Boom. Gotta love it. I LOVE small business and especially businesses whom are unique, so I will continue to be back! Recommend it highly to anybody that wants to try something new!

This is place is the best ever. I love it. It makes me happy when I can make one of the store clerks smile a little bit. I get all sorts of little gifts and snacks here often, including a gorgeous matryoshka for my moms birthday. Highly recommend.
