This location was the previous home of La Morovena, which was also a Puerto Rican carry-out only restaurant. La Morovena moved to 8th & Greenfield, and El Rincon Criollo now serves here.I ordered an alcapurria, which is a mix of plantain and root vegetables pureed and filled with meat, potatoes, and seasoning, then deep fried. It was pretty good and larger than I expected. My entree was mofongo, a large ball of mashed green plantain which is deep fried and filled with seasoning and bits of chicharron, with bistek encebollado (steak cooked in oil and onions). The mofongo had decent flavor and a substantial amount of chicharron, which helped counter the otherwise disappointingly soft texture of the mofongo. The steak was tender and the flavor was solid. I would definitely go back to try other menu items, or one of the daily specials.

What I like about this place is that it satisfied every Puerto Rican desire to feel at home in this cold ass winter. Great service!

I love Rellanos de papa and thought I would try them at this place. First of all you should probably live in the neighborhood because there is no parking to speak of. Secondly it's only take out, no seating inside. Finally the food. I waited 30 minuets so the food was fresh, however, the Rellanos de papa was 90% potatoes and very little meat. Not worth the money nor the time. The moral of the story is if you want good Puerto Rican food eat at your best Puerto Rican's friends house.
