If you want anything for your cake project, this is the place. They even have ready-made flowers to top your cake if you're out of practice like me. They have various sizes and colors. I even picked up some gold edible spray paint! The fillings come in a nice ready to be cut pastry bag and I opted for the strawberry and Bavarian cream. Looking forward to making this homemade cake with ready-made products

I stopped in just to grab a couple of cupcake boxes. I was happy to see the wide assortment of items for baking. I have been ordering from Amazon up until now. Now I dont have to wait that extra day or so and pay the shipping fee. I can go right to West Allis and pick up the supplies. The prices were fair. They have icing flowers, royal icing, sprinkles, you name it and they have it. I do have an issue. This place would have gotten 5 stars had it not been for the worst customer service ever with the one exception of one young lady. Im not one to draw the race card on every hand but the blatant disregard of my presence was astounding. A couple of other people who didnt look like me came and were greeted and helped... me? Not so much. I roamed around until I was helped but the young lady. Thank you young lady if you are reading this.I would only stop back if need be, otherwise that left a bad taste in my mouth.

The only reason so many think this is the "best place" is because ITS THE ONLY PLACE! I came from Cincinnati that had many cake supply store so my standards are high I guess, but I found everything in the store to be very out dated and over priced. I bought melting chocolate from this place that was expired and unfortunately I didn't know until I attempted at melting it.

This place is like a playground for bakers and cake decorators, it's a hidden gem that I try to tell all my baking friends about. They run a pretty booming internet business, and I ordered from them online for years before I realized they're right up the street from me. Derp. They have the most amazing selection of cake, baking, and candy decorating supplies. I couldn't possibly name all the things they have. I'm pretty sure it's the only place in town you can get high ratio shortening (which if you're trying to make a stable decorating buttercream without the nasty oily film in your mouth, is essential). An endless selection of fillings, toppings, colorants, wrappings, cake pans, candy molds, cake boards, cake stands, cake forms, cupcake wrappers of all kinds, things to transport your cake. They have cake fillings and candy melts (high quality candy melts) as well as things like tylose, royal icing mix, powdered meringue, glycerine, baking emulsions. They have Fat Daddio's cake pans and Satin Ice fondant (which is nice because shipping on fondant can get crazy). The only thing I really wish they had was fondX fondant because it's much better than Satin Ice. I believe it's still family owned because I always see the same ladies in there and they're very helpful. There's parking in the back. Be sure to check the hours because they have limited weekend hours.

This store is pretty no-frills, but it is a cake baker/decorators dream. From cake boards and boxes to dyes and toppers, there isn't much you could need or want to create a stellar cake that Cook's doesn't carry. I love that I can buy a single cake board or box or stock up on them. A sheet cake board is like $1.69 and a 9" round is like $0.20, both of which are incredibly reasonable. I love that they carry large and small bottles of gel coloring - it's so much better and easier to use. I'm buying a few colors every time I go to start stocking up. They have limited Saturday hours, which frustrates me sometimes, but now that I know I can plan for it. They also change their hours between Memorial Day and Labor Day. There is no where else in town that carries the selection that Cook's does. If you're making a specialty cake, this has to be your first stop.

This place has everything a bake or candy maker would ever want. It wouldn't hurt them to update the store a bit though. I can tell they've been in the same location since 1980.The staff is very knowledgeable about everything and the samples are always delicious. Maybe put them somewhere a little more visible, though. The fact that there is two entrances is convenient, bit maybe add some sinagebto the register area so people know where to check out.

Unbelievably horrible service!!!!! Twice I've been here and the first time I thought I may have just had a bad employee. I had a question and had to interrupt the employees talking amongst themselves. Then I was given an attitude. Fortunately, I will never have to purchase this item again. Quite a while later I returned for some cake boxes and the cardboard circles to put the cake on. Different employee, but she was quite annoyed that I needed someone to check me out. If I thought it was going to be such trouble, I would have just left a few dollars on the counter. I will NEVER go back, and when asked about this place, or someplace to get supplies, I always tell people that they do not want to go there. They should either try a craft store, Cake & Bake in Menomonee Falls, or order online.

When I first came to Cook's 6 years ago for specialty cake decorating items I found the one staff member extremely inviting and helpful. It helped make my first big cake project exciting and not a chore. Having said that, subsequent visits here have been less than satisfactory and downright insulting. I can literally walk the entire store without anyone greeting me or asking if I need any help; even as 3 or 4 people are visible behind the counter chit-chatting amongst themselves. Even if a question is asked, it becomes very clear the clerks don't want to assist at all. Customer service 101: Your customers are the entire reason you're there and the shop is in business. The selection is pretty good but can be overwhelming to people unfamiliar with the stores's clunky layout. Perhaps this shop only values bigger businesses or business owners. I've found there are other cake decorating options in the area; those that truly value every customer and are more than happy to help.ETA: After reading Damon's review I'm wondering if this is the same reason I was treated so disrespectfully & ignored several times. Yikes, Cook's. Wise up & be respectful of the fact that West Allis is more integrated & more diverse than its ever been & it's not changing anytime soon.
