Chalet Cheese Co-Op

Because this is a cheese cooperative, we visited expecting to find a wide variety of cheese and other products for purchase. However, they had a very limited selection and we didn't buy anything. However, the gentleman there was very friendly and gave us a taste of their famous Limburger cheese.

The best Cheese Factory ever! If you're a tourist in Monroe don't act like one. Check out where the locals know where to get the best & the most inexpensive cheese in the area. It's nice scenic route in the beautiful Wisconsin country side. The only place in America that still makes Limburger. They also have a tiny tasting room. It's a fine experience. "Be a traveler, not a tourist!"--Anthony Bourdain. You won't regret this suggestion. The last time I was there I brought back easily 20-30lbs of cheese, via carry-on, back to Los Angeles (where I live now). My bag got checked & swabbed for explosive @ O'hare. The lady doing the swab test saw prices on the cheese "Where did you get all this cheese for such a great price". Now buy a Cheese Head at a touristy place, take off your shirt, put on some Lederhosen, and make that trek to the Chalet.
