Interesting spot. Some of the clientele here is questionable and trashy, while we met another few ones that were friendly and went with the flow. I guess that's standard for any divey-type bar. I got the classic hate for being a Californian, but that's the typical banter you'd expect from a place like this in the Midwest. The bartender didn't actually acknowledge us too much over the course of the time we were there as we'd expect from a place like this, however towards the end of the night when the others left, his conversation with us was very interesting and personal about his past which was awesome. I'm not a dive bar type of person, but this one was decent. It also has a touch-tunes if you're looking to change up the music.

Super laid back neighborhood bar. It's everything you envision for an old school Riverwest bar in the best way possible. The service was awesome, and the drinks were nice and strong, not to mention affordable. We strolled in after a visit to ArtBar and we were happy we dropped in. The bar was decorated for Christmas too!

Classic neighborhood bar with a dedicated following. A great place to meet new people and enjoy reasonably priced cocktails in a very relaxed atmosphere. Watch the game, play some games, and find out how quickly the time will fly!

A Wisconsin tavern in the heart of Riverwest that could be found here, there, or anywhere in the great state of Wisconsin; in Medford, in Sparta, in Pembine, in Kenosha, on the south side of MKE. Who has two thumbs and is pretty happy that she lives right down the street from Bosco's? This gal. Why, you might ask? What nonsense is this? What is this written appreciation for something so unremarkable, so honest, so unabashedly not-at-all-curated? Aren't you a some sort of connoisseur, Rachel? Don't you have standards? I trusted you!Well, dear reader, I do, and I hold them... hard. And I hold them within context, regardless of any molecular gastronomy or sports bar antics. I hold them regardless of clientele, of location, and of my mood. Let's revisit: everything has its time and place, and how we "judge" should always, always be based upon context. Surely you can all appreciate that concept... right?Alright, enough. Moving forward, as is our fair state's motto:Much like Gee Willickers, you'll need to be buzzed in at Bosco's after dusk. Once you're inside, it's a different world... a world that's all around us, everywhere; a world that lives unpretentiously in conception and execution, far more hard-working Wisco-tastic than many other places in relative proximity. Let's be honest: this is neighborhood watering hole where folks rock flannel shirts and denim tuxedos. Patrons are neighborhood folks. The clientele skews older. This clientele is fitting of the space and the vibe. I think my grandpa would like this place. Let's hang in MKE, Grandpa! (Not sure if they stock Busch Light, though... hope you're cool with Miller High Life. I know you are.)So Bosco's: up-north/everywhere/working-class Wisconsin right down the street on Burleigh in R-Dubs, it's teevees and sports and all that. I could imagine this might be a good place to catch a Packer game and revel in victory or wallow in defeat with my neighbors, most of whom I wouldn't know and who would be at the very least 25 years older than me. This actually sounds like a lot of fun to me.Admittedly, my first and only visit here was, well... how do you say... um... gosh... I was pretty hammered, okay? There. I said it. Honesty abounds. It's not my fault; L and I had the fortune/misfortune to run into a certain neighborhood gentleman and old bar regular of mine earlier in the evening who was so pleased to see us - and we him - and then loudly proclaimed that we were "in trouble" and "had gotten our feet caught in the fun wheel." George at Corazon's birthday. Tequila shots. Oof.Okay, so back to Bosco's:They've got an internet jukebox (fun!), sports on the tube (Packers!), blackberry brandy (gross, delicious, and pretty damn up north-core), and it all gets a little hazy towards the end of my first visit, but that's okay. Our bartender, Benny, was friendly. He reminded me of my dad sort of. Bald + jovial with a real Wisconsin 12-pack. (... or case.)Bar dice + cheap drinks, and you've got a well-rounded, everyman's experience. I dig Bosco's and will be back for Packer games. Hopefully I'll be able to report back with more nuanced observations, and soon. It is almost football season, after all...
