Boondocks BBQ Burgers and Brews

I had an errand to run on a Friday night in Oconomowoc, so that was a good time to hit a fish fry at one of my bookmarks that I hadn't yet been to. Boondocks was the choice for my family and I on this particular day. I got the three piece beer battered cod with smoked mac and cheese and cornbread for the sides. My wife and oldest kid both got plain cheeseburgers with fries and cornbread. My youngest got a grilled cheese from the kids menu with fries and added a piece of cornbread. My oldest son and I also shared smoked wings. The wings come unsauced with two sauces on the side, of which we chose Caribbean jerk BBQ and Texan BBQ.We liked the wings. I prefer jerk rub to jerk sauce, but this might have been the best jerk sauce I've had. It was a little on the sweet side, but still had some heat. Neither of us cared for the Texan sauce. We also used the KC BBQ sauce in one of the bottles at the table and, though not my favorite KC BBQ sauce that I've had, it was good.The little one liked his grilled cheese, though I don't know if he's ever had a grilled cheese he didn't like. The cheeseburgers were not seasoned much, if at all, but at least you could taste the quality in the meat. The fries were more limp than crisp, which my wife didn't care for. I thought the beer batter tasted great, but the pieces were a little soggy on the bottom. The smoked mac and cheese was fine; more lukewarm than hot. The menu doesn't mention it, but it comes with bacon bits on top. The cornbread. Oy. My family are fiends for cornbread and it was a huge disappointment to my wife that it came with jalapeno bits in it, which wasn't mentioned on the menu either. To be fair, they weren't large chunks, but it still affected the flavor of the cornbread. Be aware in case you don't like jalapeno.

Wow! Kayla S was an amazing server. She was enthusiastic, helped us navigate the menu, offered tips, and made sure our experience was nothing short of excellent. The Ope! Beers are cutely named. I had the Ope! Didn't see ya there. Smooth, hoppy, nice taste. For my entree, I had the pulled pork dinner. It's basically a mound of pulled pork, corn bread, and two sides of which I chose cole slaw and baked beans. Everything was good. It was a lot of food and I brought home a good portion of pulled pork leftovers. We were seated in a cool window bench. They have a nice patio for warmer days. Good stop. Thanks Kayla S for being such a great ambassador of the restaurant.

A burger is a burger until you get a great one. I ordered a smoked Gouda and brisket burger with sweet potato fries and Jamaican cole slaw. It had a thick juicy patty cooked medium as requested, a large slice of melted Gouda and a large tender delicious slice of brisket. The whole meal was awesome. My wife loved her Greek burger with feta and gyro meat and tzatziki sauce. I tried it also and it was great. Nice selection of beer and friendly service. We ate outside on the patio. Can't wait to try it again.

Sorry it took me so long to get here. Excellent restaurant and bar. Never had anyone nail both the Carolina vinegar and Carolina mustard barbecue sauces. Boondocks has. And they also offer a nice Kansas City style. Wow. Pulled pork was excellent - juicy and not over seasoned. Ribs were also good - meat falling off the bone but still firm and juicy. Brisket was the star of the show. Amazingly tender with the perfect balance of fat to meat. Beefy flavor. Delicious. Sides of brussel sprouts and baked beans were also perfectly cooked and seasoned nicely. Also had a very good smoked Turkey pot pie weekly special. Flaky, buttery crust. Plenty of meat, not just potato filler. Came with some great fresh green beans and a piece of crispy, salty and garlicky bread. Prices are very fair, especially for the quality of the food. Friendly and efficient staff. And very good live music on Fridays. Perfect place.

Let me start by saying my ribs and wings are better than most legit bbq places in America. That's all.This place is good too. Hands down best bbq place in lake country. Sides are legit. Meats are mostly strong. Good drinks. Really like the overall vibe. Feels barbecuey in a good way. Friendly staff. Sauces are mid but good meat don't need sauce. Chicken is the under the radar hero here. Pulled chicken and wings are guaranteed crowd pleasers. Getting here feels a bit like you're going to Canada and there's about an 80% chance you'll have to swerve a deer en route, but it's worth the trek

I have to say this burger is piled high with one of the most tendered pulled pork I had even from KC. I was not impressed with the beef patty due to being under seasoned but sandwich didn't fall apart on me. There wasn't anything exciting about the Mac n cheese but that Jamaican Cole slaw was pretty good. The service was nice and this place is laid back and relaxing.

Came here for a dinner with family on the Friday before New Years. It was busy with an hour wait. There multiple empty tables but not seating anyone at them. It is a fairly big space with a decent amount of tables. The food was prepared well and tasted good. In the back, you will find a cute shop with bakery items and artisan foods. We will back to try some more menu items!

This place has some pretty amazing bbq! Came here with a large group for a family get together. We hung around the bar for a little shopping cocktails (well.. me, a SPOTTED COW!) Staff was friendly and drinks were made promptly. We all sat down and our next round of drinks were taken. Then food orders. My daughter and i split the Sample plate for 2 for $28. Came with ribs, pulled pork and brisket.. asking with 4 sides. We got double Brussel sprouts, side salad and Mac&cheese. The grandkids got Mac and cheese. Cousins got a burger, tacos and salmon. Everyone seemed to have enjoyed their meal. Tacos were a bit on the spicy side so if you don't like heat ask them to keep it mild. Now for our platter... it was AMAZING. My favorite was the ribs. Smoked well, fall off the bone deliciousness! Next would be the pulled pork. Moist and really flavorful. Brisket was tender, but a little dry. Now I'm not a fan of Mac&cheese. This was a little wetter, which i prefer. It had a good flavor. But not my cup of tea. But the grandkids loved it!Brussels sprouts were tasty. Portion was a little small but we had so much food. Salad was basic but that's what a side salad is. Our server was so accommodating for our large group. The process are very fair! And the player for 2 really could be split amongst 3! We brought home a bunch of the meat. I would love to come here in the summer when they are serving on the deck!Plenty of parking. Bathrooms were clean and stocked. No one is wearing masks but there is hand sanitizer at the door and bar. Fun night. Would come back again.

I picked up an order of brisket hoping it would be great as I had not had BBQ in months. It was disappointing.The meat was dry with little flavor. I won't be going back.

Friday nite fish fry is the best I have ever tasted. I had the fried cod, my friend had the perch. Both were very large portions & reasonably priced. Service at the bar and dinner were awesome.
