Every time I walk in here I feel like I'm in a welcoming middle eastern country. The guy behind the meat counter recognizes me and gives a warm smile and greeting. I come for fresh feta cheese and olives and fresh lamb. I'm also addicted to Turkish coffee and I buy it freshly ground - middle eastern style - half freshly ground cardamom and half dark roasted coffee beans. Fragrance is amazing. Get yourself a Turkish coffee pot and your mornings sill be kick started. The cashier tells me thank you so much for your business with great warmth. In this small place There can be hope for peace.Update:Today the owner (?) greeted me with his usual warmth. It's my weekly stop and everyone welcomes me. After picking up my olives, feta and pita, I told him it's a wonderful meal. He said I need to drink his favorite tea and took me to the tea section - took the box he recommended. Somehow during checkout we he talked of his home - Palestine and how beautiful it is. He showed me pictures of his home town. We agreed that we need peace and an end to endless suffering. What a warm and keep nd man.

Walking into Attari makes you feel like you have left the US in a very good way. This little ethnic supermarket has become a hub for folks from the Middle East. Ladies wear hijabs and most speak very broken English. The employees are SUPER friendly and go out of their way to make sure you can find even the most obscure items. It is a small shop but is packed with goods from authentic henna to lamb stomach. The two reasons I stop here are for the meat counter and the pita. They have many different cuts of lamb and will cut anything to order for you. Yes they sell lamb tongue and stomach plus you can buy intestines. Now for the best part....the freshly baked pita. It is the best pita in the city and it is inexpensive. They also sell a pita topped with spices and cheese and it is worth the splurge. Attari is definitely worth a visit - while you are in the neighborhood head down 13th street to Best Market and pick up some Indian groceries and make it an ethnic day.

This Middle-eastern supermarket has a lot to offer. In the meat department there are several types of cuts of lamb. The pita bread is baked fresh. Bakery items are also available. I am always asked if I need help with carrying groceries to my vehicle. The friendly service makes it a great place to shop.

I finally stopped in and am glad I did. A Middle Eastern Grocery on the Southside of MKE go figure. Fresh pitas are awesome as well as their meat department. I tried some fresh cut lamb, my son tried some frozen salmon. I was out of my element as far as food goes and the staff was very helpful in guiding me in my purchase. A unique grocery section as well. If you are looking for something different give them a try.

I've passed this place I don't know how many times. I was shopping at Woodman's and ran into a woman that told me about this place. I wanted ground lamb and she told me this is the place to go. It's kinda chaotic inside like the Indian supermarket further down on 13th. Shelves are stocked to the brimm. If you can't find something, just ask.We got there about 10:30AM and they still weren't open. The owner met me at the door and let me come in. I went a bit crazy! They have a big selection of spices. I got a whole bag of mint for $3.00. I also purchased the fresh flat bread, some tahini, and got a good deal on ground lamb and lamb ribs. This is the real deal. They took a whole fresh lamb and broke it down right in front of us. The people next to us got a whole leg of lamb that looked superb! The owner was very friendly and helpful! I ended up spending about $30.00 but it is very affordable. there.

The owners of this store are possibly the friendliest store owners in they city. I'm absolutely always made to feel like an old friend each time I visit.Their pita bread is like a dream. And their spinach pies are like a dream X 2. The fresh dates they sell...man. So good.Be skeptical of lower ratings people have given Attari. The truth is, it rules.

Attari Supermarket has the best lamb in town. Its fresh, cheaper than dirt and cut to order. The leg of lamb went in a New York minute at a recent party. The lamb chops are 1/3 the price of Sendik's, and the ground lamb is 1/2 the price. The pita is made on the premises and the Middle Eastern items, spices, etc are first rate and are very reasonably priced. They also have incredible varieties of rice and fermented rice, dates figs, halavah, candies, etc. The turkish/arabic coffee (with cardamom) is cheap and delicious (they will grind it for you and I suggest you have them do so,very fine and ready for the stove. The owners are the nicest people. Everyone is a brother here and the service is first rate. It is a small family run store so you have to wait sometimes for maybe 5 minutes or so at the meat counter. That is not time that is wasted. They have the most interesting people coming in there. Every country of the world it seams. My Israeli, and Greek friends go there now, as do my Italian friends. It is an experience. A place to be supported. Its like stepping off the plane in istanbul or Marrakesh.

I've been in this place a few times now. First was to buy feta because I heard it was super cheap there. Which I found to be true. For $2 I get so much feta I find myself preparing meals around what would be good with feta(I personally think everything, but not everyone in my house agrees). I wanted to ask questions about popular middle eastern dishes and something easy enough I could make at home. The owner, Reziq, has been such a great mentor in teaching me new middle eastern dishes. He walks around the store with me and explaining how to prepare the dish in a way my father in law would understand(he can burn boiling water!) All together I'm so grateful stores like Attari's are around. America has so much diversity it would be a shame not to learn things from eachother. Thank you for all your help Reziq!
