Algonquin Sub Shop is more of an institution than just your run-of-the-mill sub shop. It's been around for ages and I remember coming here when I was back in college. Its menu is inventive, they use fresh ingredients, and there is some charm. However, the wait time can be really long. I waited about 25 minutes for two sandwiches, some fries, and a soup. My husband's sandwich, (#25), the Texas Chili Rub, was flavorful and filling. My sandwich, (#15) tuna, was just meh. The bread was great, but the tuna was somewhat bland and had nothing pickled or salted on it, making it tasteless. However, the tomatoes and greens on top were ripe and delicious. The cream of chicken and rice soup didn't feel like it was salted or something. It was pretty bland. Maybe it was an off day.

Delish! A local favorite. Call ahead to order and save time! Parking lot is tight but worth it. Fresh ingredients, fresh rolls, and all around great subs. We will be back for sure!

This is the best place in Algonquin for burgers and subs. I mean I crave these sandwiches. The burger is better than Portillo burgers. Comes with fries! Ask for blue cheese, American, cheddar they have it all. The BLT sub is awesome. The Italian beef is great. The Al Capone is fantastic. Family owned local place. Thanks for being a great place to eat!

The yelp reviews are dead on with this place. Very unassuming little shop but the food is great. The AlCapone was one of the better Italian subs I've had in a while. The Monterey chicken was realllyDone well too. The soup that day was chicken dumpling and was definitely like home cooking and whoever mentioned the fries was right. Definitely stop in!

My wife and I have lived in Algonquin for three years with our family of 7 but have not had the experience that is the sun shop.Today we ordered ahead via mobile order and picked up a large fry and the Al Capone sandwich. The order said it would only take ten minutes and they hit it right on the nose! The staff were friendly and engaging and very on top of orders as over twenty orders were being prepared during their lunch rush. This unassuming shop is easily passable when driving through Algonquin, but I cannot recommend it enough. The sandwich, which is their take on the traditional Italian, is the BEST Italian sub I've had in quite some time. What is crazier is the fact that their fries are even better! Whatever they season them with is the key. We'll be coming back time and time again. Only negative is their hours of operation. They aren't open as much as you'd think they should be with how successful they are.

Best sub shop ... hands down. Amazing service and quality sandwich's made with love and the finest quality ingredients. Don't be deceived... it's a tiny shop but lives up to the reputation. I went with my favorite sandwich on the menu - Where's Waldorf! The apples walnuts and brie combo are the perfect combo and just yummy! You'll be surprised but it's the best.

Husband drove from Elgin to Algonquin to get lunch. We've always wanted to try this place and he was willing to go get lunch yesterday. I had the Al Capone. It was good but honestly a little weird with mayo, lettuce and cold cuts on a hot sandwich. My husband had the "Here's the beef "sandwich, which she said it was very good, but probably wouldn't drive back to Algonquin just for the sandwich. Had the loaded baked potato soup which was really good, I probably would've liked it a little bit creamier, but overall had a very good flavor.Maybe next time we'll try a couple different sandwiches to make an ultimate decision.

Little standalone sub shop with the best darn sub we have ever enjoyed - #9 The CaliforniaGrilled Chicken seared in honey and garlic, with Sun Dried Tomato and melted Cheddar. Warm, gooey and absolutely delicious. We also enjoyed the #3 with high quality roast beef and some horseradish sauce (we would have liked more sauce). The small fries were hot and were a huge portion. The potato salad was awesome - mashed red skin potatoes flavored to perfection. Little hole in the wall with friendly counter service. Plenty of parking and inside / outside seating. We will definitely come back here again. Great find!
