Atmosphere: The seats were cozy and Christmasy (maybe this is a word?) They have a sign that says seat yourself but for some reason people were waiting to be seated. We took it upon ourselves to start to seat ourselves and the host came to intervene asap. The dining area is small and comfortable. The Christmas music was low enough volume that conversation was possible. Food: Exceptional! I read another review where a woman said it was the best chicken fried rice she has ever had. I have to say that it was pretty stinking good! My wife enjoyed the sunset role and she said if we lived here this would be her sushi place. Service: Pretty good, nothing to note. Friendly and welcoming. Overall: Excellent food, cooked and/or prepared with care and attention to detail.

A wonderful tucked away sushi spot! The service is attentive and quickly delivers on what is ordered. There is always cheerful music playing and a nice atmosphere to enjoy your meal at your pace, never rushed.The food is affordable and delicious, it is the best sushi I personally ever had! The sake selection is also wonderful! I recommend the Hakutsuru "Sayuri" Nigori as the pink bottle is cute and has floral notes.The miso soup is a perfect addition to the sushi, and the bulgogi JFR fried rice has lots of veggies and bulgogi to enjoy and share. The calamari is crispy and fresh, and the Dragon Roll is delicious, topped with eel and avocado. The California Crunch is great, and the Gurnee Roll is the perfect thing for when you are craving crab! My go to will always be the Shrimp Tempura roll and the refreshingly sweet Arnold Palmer's!Everything on the menu is delicious, and is beautifully plated. There are even stunning wooden ships that are used to hold the sushi when the AHA Boat sushi is ordered!I definitely recommend dining at Aha, especially if you love sushi!!

Very tasty sushi in a casual atmosphere. This is a small restaurant, casual but nicely decorated. We stopped in for dinner on a Saturday and were seated right away. Service was polite and timely. We ordered a variety of sushi. All tasted very good, our favorite being the Sunset roll. We were excited to try the Black Hawks roll, and although the flavor was good, there were so many spicy elements it made it difficult to taste the king crab in it. The chef's choice Nigiri Dinner came with a nice variety of generously sized nigiri.

I did finally have a chance to visit again (I am not a Gurnee local) and on a weekend this time! It's still in its unassuming strip mall location - but the place is clean and a little modern, but mostly very approachable. We got the sunset maki again cause it's really good with the little acid hit from the lemon. We $plurged with the Black Hawks maki (for the king crab) but I couldn't really taste the king crab because of the overall spiciness of the other ingredients in the roll.Yes, the flower garnish was still included! Swank!Service was good and it gave me an overall fresh, casual and approachable vibe. I'm looking to get out here again whenever I have an excuse to be in Gurnee again.

Came here for the first time for date night. The restaurant is small but also does a lot of take out orders. We ordered the tuna poke appetizer which is a whole meal in itself. Served with lettuce, ginger dressing, seaweed salad, cucumber and radish. We also ordered the rock roll and mercy roll. The mercury roll was my favorite. The waitress was very nice. We would definitely come here again.

This used to be a favorite, but the quality has dropped since the last visit. We both ordered the salmon teriyaki bento lunch. My salmon was okay, but my husband said his tasted "off". I tried a small bite and had to agree. Also, I needed to get the waitress to bring some gari (ginger) which she did. But then I realized I had no wasabi (horseradish) but it wasn't worth another wait. In previous visits, a small bowl for soy sauce, wasabi, and gari were presented. There was a container of soy sauce at the table, so we just used it without the extra spice. Also, where the gari used to be on the bento box, nori (seaweed) salad was included ... a couple of forkfuls, but it's an acquired taste - neither my husband nor I ate much. They do a great take-out business ... perhaps they need another waitstaff. One waitress for 3 small tables and one party of 8 and she was "slammed" - ha!

I have been going here for years now. I eat from here weekly, if not twice a week just because of the quality of the food, the service, the way it is presented and prepared. I have ordered from here on those cold wintery days, and have spent time in the restaurant in those warm summer months. This is one of my favorite spots in Illinois. No one does sushi better, they constantly over perform their food and constantly are humble about it. They also have excellent pricing for their high quality food. My girlfriend and I go there because it is a safe place to eat, and we are welcomed because we have been eating here for years. I live nearby as well and it is worth the short walk. The ambiance is small hole-in-the-wall type of a restaurant with a few tables. They recently started serving alcoholic beverages and the sake selection is great!Some of my favorite dishes are shown in the photos. My go to favorites are the Shrimp tempura, which can be elevated by getting a dragon roll (which is their shrimp tempura roll but now topped with eel and avocado), the karage which is their fried chicken and it is fantastically crispy and has no bone, they also have their California crunch roll, and new California crunch roll which is deep fried sushi and it is worth it to try and enjoy either of them. They also have amazing crab sushi rolls, and excellent bulgogi and salmon entrees. Their calamari tempura is also really exceptional as I have never seen calamari be done the way they do it.
