We enjoyed the Thanksgiving brunch at 1878. There was a variety of choices and everything was very good. We especially enjoyed the short ribs which is an item we don't normally like. This restaurant did them well- not overly fatty or full of little bones. There was a cold seafood station, a salad station, carving station and dessert station. There was supposedly a breakfast station but we didn't see it. It didn't matter though because we loved the food we selected and could hardly finish what we took. The staff was super friendly and attentive. At Some brunches you are just pointed to the food and left to yourselves but not this one. The staff checked often to make sure we had everything we needed. The restaurant is beautiful with comfortable seating and fabulous views of Lake Delavan. Be prepared to walk through the hotel to reach the restaurant. It is located in Lake Lawn Resort.

We really wanted to check this place out for breakfast but could never make it in time. They stop serving breakfast at 11.When we finally thought we might squeak in on time, we got there and realized it is not easily accessible. It's on a huge resort and you park by the conference center but have to walk quite a ways through the resort. We went into the wrong building and got directions, but by the time we got there at 10:45 a.m. there was no one to be seen and when we found the hostess, she didn't seem very happy and said they were done serving breakfast and needed about 15 more minutes to reset the kitchen for lunch. We weren't interested in lunch, so we left. The restaurant inside did not seem as impressive as the pictures we had seen. It was a lot dimmer inside than we expected. They had some patio seating, but since we didn't stay, we didn't check it out. The place was dead. Granted it was a Wednesday at a weird transition time, but there was no one there. Seems to me this place is just a restaurant inside a shmancy hotel, not really a restaurant I would go out of my way to visit, despite doing exactly that. I'm glad we were spared the $50. I'm guessing the pictures set unreasonable expectations.

Wonderful lake views. Enjoyable atmosphere. Solid food. We had a chance to dine at 1878 during a recent stay at Lake Lawn Resort. I'll preface with a disclaimer that the service is indeed quite slow here. I think it's because it's the main restaurant on the resort "compound" if you will, so everyone comes here which means you're really on their time. The husband and I both started off with a mimosa, a refreshing start to brunch. I ordered the egg white frittata and would say it was A-OK. It had sauteed spinach, peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms and arugula. Just a little on the dry side. It also came with a generous bowl of seasonal fruit. My husband had the chorizo egg tacos, to his enjoyment. We also added a side of bacon and side of sausage to our order to share. Overall I felt the bill was a bit pricey for what ya get, but all in all it was still a lovely breakfast.Loved the decor here. Very elegant with crisp clean furniture, unique light fixtures, and an overall airy feel to the place.

Googled Sunday brunch at Lake Lawn and the first thing that pops up is there 1878 restaurant. Made 11:30am reservations for Valentine's Sunday. We show up and we're told they only have their brunch for special occasions and holidays. In light of 1867 restaurant popping up we thought it likely they would have the brunch on Valentine's weekend. We left and went to The Abbey bin Lake Geneva and had a great brunch there instead.

I was fortunate to have the opportunity to dine here twice for breakfast and had a great experience both times! This really reminded me of those wonderful breakfasts I enjoy on cruise ships, with a fantastic view to the outside and comfortable furniture on the inside. Everything about this place is elegant, from the decor to the furniture -- really making this a great value as well, with normal breakfast prices but upscale decor. The service also matched the high standards of this business - where we were served promptly and professionally by different waiters on each visit, all who were very helpful and attentive. The food was excellent that we had here, consistently good across the board for every dish we tried. The Smorg Board is an incredible deal with more than enough food to feed yourself and take half home. The fruit offered here was fresh, country scramble was tasty and not overly salty, brioche french toast was very fluffy and flavorful, maple sausage was tasty and not too oily, bacon was nice and crispy, sticky toffee buns were puffy and flavorful, and the danishes were flaky and just a little sweet. I was able to also try the buttermilk pancakes served with delicious whipped butter and nicely spongy. The bananas foster french toast was also rich and super delicious with the bruleed bananas, tasty caramel sauce, and candied pecans. The execution of this dish was great, though their plain french toast is also incredibly delicious.Overall, great place for a delicious breakfast experience with a great view. I would love to come back here for other meals based on my great experiences and reasonable prices.

My husband and I went to 1878 on the Lake several times during our stay at Lake Lawn Resort. I was impressed by the food every time. From pancakes to eggs to French toast to pizza, the food was delicious at every meal. The servers were nice and able to answer our questions. I highly recommend 1878 on the Lake!

My family has been coming here for Easter brunch for over 20 years and it's always a decent experience. The place seems to change a bit every year but a few things stayed the same. The meat carving station is always a plus, the price point is high these days so prime rib or lamb are a great way to get your value. They had a tasty ham with a really good mustard sauce this year, I enjoyed that. The omelet station is popular and will have you waiting around for a while but it is prepared fresh for you, and the guy running it this year was enthusiastic. The waffles used to be made freshly in front of you as well but they seem to have cut that feature which is honestly fine. The waffles looked the same, tasted good, and I didn't have to wait around for it. All the usual suspects are here. Bacon, sausage, potatoes, pancakes and so on. The dessert options were lesser than last time, and they removed a few entire tables of desserts which made that spot of the buffet a bottleneck. They should really put the old tables back out just to ease the dining experience.Overall the food was good but the service was poor. No one brought us water or took our drink orders until we flagged someone down, well after we had started eating. They didn't clear plates well, and we had stacks of plates on our table which was already a tight fit for our group. They did apologize. We never even saw our server, apparently our guy was struggling to keep up and another guy ended up taking care of our service. At the meat station I overheard some employees talking about how multiple servers and other employees just didn't show up for the day. First, you shouldn't be talking about these things openly for your customers to hear. Second, it's a businesses job to be prepared for all possibilities. Too many places are brushing off their poor service by claiming its a worker issue but when you hire young, untrained workers and don't motivate them this is what happens. As a customer, we payed too much to be stacking plates and flagging down servers. They add a "resort fee" to your bill at the end which doesn't mean anything, it's just a term they're using to tack on a hidden fee. I still like this venue, and they have lots of other amenities on site but if they keep charging more and offering less we'll have to look for somewhere else to go, which is a shame.

Food was cold and service was subpar. Confusion between servers about who got what table. Our server spilled our coffee , twice , on our table. Will not go back. View on window table was very nice

New years day brunch. Terrible. So many things wrong. $45 a person. Pancakes from a bag and ice cold. Bacon totally raw and cold. Picture showed waffles there was none. No toast. Same food from the night before new year's buffet. Scrambled eggs one big clump and cold. This is the tiny piece of prime rib they give you. Did not find anything that was hot. Not worth the money
