Mike's Red Tacos - Point Loma

So bomb. Would recommend to anyone who is looking for authentic birria. The Point Loma location is nice and clean

The food here is absolutely amazing and exceeded my expectations. I saw an ad on social media for this place and what they have to offer and I just had to check it out. The service was fast and easy, even though there was a long line out to the parking lot.We ordered the birria burrito and birria fries. They give you a massive amount of food, the burrito was the size of my calf, it had to have weighed nearly 5 lbs. I split it with my husband, he could barely finish half. The birria fries were excellent, full of meat, guac and red sauce. They also have a salsa bar with several varieties to choose from, they have a spicy AF salsa that had a good burn to it. I also like some of their milder green salsa that paired well with the meat.I will definitely be coming back here when I'm craving a birria burrito, it's totally worth it. Mike's Red Taco is easy to find, it is in a shopping center and has plenty of free parking.

Absolutely DELICIOUS and a MUST TRY!!! I got the ramen and my guy got the #2 combo, we also had to get a side of the bone marrow, and some loaded churros!! All for an affordable price!! It was SO GOOD!! The bone marrow was out of this world!! We talked about how we could have had a whole meal of just the bones! The loaded churros were perfectly crunchy and soft -great for two people to share or to indulge on alone - there was a great amount of cream and strawberries.The ramen looked and smelled so good, tasted absolutely amazing, make sure you get extra limes because that lime juice takes things to another level!Definitely recommend!

I love Mike's Red Tacos!! From their food truck, to their Clairemont location and now Point Loma - I'm happy to see them growing. I eat Mike's at least once a month lately. First time at this location was great. Cashier was super friendly. Our food, the birria tacos, ramen and burrito were all good like expected. Took about 15 min for food to be ready. Much bigger space, more tables and a bathroom inside, compared to Clairemont. Super busy on a Saturday afternoon! But luckily found a table. Indoor and outdoor seating. Highly recommend!

3.5 starsWe have been to the location further north, so when we heard there was a closer option we had to get to this joint!I'm a creature of habit so the crunchstack is my jam! Everything is in there and it hits at the textures... beans, cheese, chewy tortilla, and the flavorful beef to round it out.. this location has more tables and room, bonus! My only negative is the time, as the kitchen was rather slow this visit.Ambiance is modern industrial, service is at the counter, and prices are in line with area.

'You RED my mind!' It was Tuesday and that means Taco Tuesday. Mike's Red Tacos is actually in the Midway area and not Point Loma area of San Diego. Located in a busy strip mall with plenty of free parking.Outdoor and indoor seating. The restaurant appeared clean and neat considering it's new. Staff behind the order counter were nice. The menu only offered beef and veggie options. No other protein: no chicken, no carnitas/pork, no seafood: fish, shrimp or octopus. I ordered their claim of fame Birria tacos with cheese with all the garnish on the side, especially the onions. There was a self serve salsa bar which featured the chili hot and spiciest AF, so of course I had to try it.No table service, you pick up your order after your number is called. It's also self serve with utensils. Despite the fact that I went way past the lunch hour rush, Service from the kitchen was super sloth slow :(There must have been at least over half a dozen staffers behind the counter, but it took so long. After finally receiving my tray of Tacos, I was disappointed that the tacos didn't look Red at all like they advertised, Mike's 'RED' Tacos!To get the Red look, the corn tortillas are dipped in red chili oil salsa and then flash fried crisp. Well these tacos skipped that process entirely and were NOT RED at all :(The concept of Red Tacos birria style had been around for years. In fact , in Venice Beach in Los Angeles County, the OG: Teddy's Red Tacos has been serving red tacos for over a couple of decades!In Birria tacos, beef meat which had been boiled for hours thereby rendering it super tender, just like pot roast meat tender. I didn't order the consume dipping sauce, because I wanted to focus on the tacos and these tasted good, not too salty, but a tad bland, which relied on garnishes and salsas for more flavor. Looking around at what other diners got, most ordered only the tacos, skipping the consume sauce, which I read was on the salty side, which his why you're give a couple lime slices. From the salsa bar, the best tasting were the Jalapeño crema and the Spicy AF, both were NOT that spicy hot at all. The salsa labeled Mike's mix was too watered down, had zero flavor IMO.Whether or not it's Taco Tuesday, if you're in the area, a visit to Mike's Red taco is a must try, but ask them to make your tacos Red just like they advertise, 'You RED my mind.' Mike's must stick to their theme RED Tacos. Don't misadvertise or customers will be in the RED with anger and disappointment!

My research PI was RAVING about Mike's Red Tacos, and we finally headed here for a lab lunch!The restaurant itself (I heard this is a new location) is situated in a pretty lively shopping center with ample parking. There were options to order at the counter or on a digital kiosk, which was really convenient! After ordering, they call your number, and you pick up your food--it's a super casual self-serve establishment. The fountain drinks, napkins, etc. are all self serve. There were inside and outside tables and a bathroom.After finding a table, the food came out relatively quickly. The longest item was the birria ramen, probably. I know this spot specializes in birria, but I was pleasantly surprised to see they had a vegetarian option, as I don't eat beef. I got the veggie tacos and they were really solid! It didn't feel like it was "missing" something at all. There was also the option of the bean and cheese burrito for any other vegetarians! My lab mates also really enjoyed their dishes, and I have to say that the serving sizes were really generous! The staff were also very friendly! We tried to take a group photo, and one of the employees stopped what he was doing to come help us! So kind!

Hands down all around great restaurant. Probably one of the best options for food in the area that's open later. The service was great, everyone was very kind and helpful (it felt like they actually wanted to be there lol). The restaurant itself is extremely clean and newly updated. The food is SO SO good and the portions for the price is insane. You get a lot of food for more than reasonable prices...this practically unheard of nowadays. Hopefully they open locations in the Bay Area!!!

Drop everything and RUNN! This place is DELICIOUS!I would have had no idea by the name but it makes sense now.The shredded meat Birria tacos are SUCH a game changer for this area located in the parking lot of Ulta, tj max and party City off of Rosecrans. But let me tell you about the BIRRIA RAMEN! Absolutely delicious, I added red onion, cilantro and lime. Perfection!Definitely Must try! I'm already craving it!

Finally had a chance to check out Mike's Red Tacos while I was visiting SD and I was not disappointed at all! They have some of the best birria tacos I've ever had in Southern California period. Service was friendly and quick and the inside was modern and clean.I got the Combo #1 and it was delicious! The birria tacos were bursting with flavor, the shells were crispy and held all the ingredients well, and dipping them into the consome was so good. The freshly fried chips that came with the combo were crispy and well-seasoned. The consome was one of the best I've had with a deep, rich flavor and some meat inside. The salsa bar has a variety of salsas and veggies to add to your plate and the included pickled onions and radish are a great palate cleanser.Overall, a fantastic spot for birria tacos and you should definitely stop by if you are in the area!
