Someone below said that the prices were steep, but I found the opposite to be the case. Compared to other small markets, I found the prices to be very reasonable and as cheap or cheaper than the grocery store.I usually eat organic and health food, so not a lot of options here, except that there are a few organic products from Costco. I was able to buy an 8 pack of organic kidney beans, organic garbanzo beans, and organic black beans for $7.49-$7.99 each, which is only a $1 mark up from the price at Costco! Otherwise, the usual selection of convenience store food.

Nice enough "corner store" better stocked than a gas station grocery and busy enough nothing gets stale. Serves its purpose well.

This place is a local gem.Sure, you can get in your car and drive to Safeway, or Winco, or Walmart and get better selection and lower prices on many things, but Garguile's Midtown Market has been family-owned for much of the past 40 years. Along with Garguile's Red Apple, they're the last bastion of independently run and operated grocery stores in Bremerton.Think about that. You spend money here, it stays in the community. Go to Walmart and the Walton family gets richer. Those Waltons aren't spending their billions here in Bremerton. Spend your money at Midtown, and the Garguile family gets richer. They live here, so they spend next to 100% of their "vast grocery fortune" right here in Kitsap County. The Midtown has the best price on bacon of all the stores in the area, and the cheapest price on hashbrowns. The only place which comes close is Garguile's OTHER STORE. Why aren't you buying your breakfast here? Sausage and hamburger are also inexpensive here (although there's a limit of 3 on the 1lb packs of hamburger). When was the last time you walked into a small, corner store, and saw an employee stocking fresh vegetables? There aren't that many small corner stores who still stock produce! 69¢ baker potatoes may not be the cheapest locally, but if you live nearby, the next nearest potato is at Safeway, and costs 10¢ more until it goes on sale. The next nearest cheap potato is WinCo, a 15 minute drive. Want a ten-pound sack? $2.49. Now that price you're going to have a hard time matching. You can get fresh vegetables here, and quality meat and dairy and bread. If you live downtown, this is walking distance from most of it.Midtown Market almost single-handedly prevents the urban core of Bremerton from being a "food desert." There are small ethnic shops, and CJ's down at Evergreen Park, and that's it. None of them have produce. So sure, get in your car. Drive fifteen, twenty minutes. Spend your money enriching the children of Sam Walton, who will never spend a dime in this county.Or, visit Midtown Market now and then. Get a week's worth of breakfasts there, or buy the entire summer picnic, including the potato salad, hamburgers, buns, and the grill. Spend your money with folks who'll spend it right here. This is why Midtown Market is a gem.Oh, and they also have a place to charge your electric car.

PARENTS OF BREMERTON, WA: AVOID Midtown Market !I just went into the store with my 2 and 3 year old sons. I held their hands the ENTIRE time. My 3 year old grabbed one pack of M&Ms which, when I told him to put back, he did. One of the owners followed us to the bananas, and when my 3 year old reached up and touched a banana (just the end of it, didn't squish it or even have it in his hand - the banana stayed on the shelf the entire time), the old man proceeded to tell us that my son couldn't do that, that I have to control him (I was still holding his hand and he never got the banana off the shelf), and that they would now REFUSE ME SERVICE because my son tried to grab a banana.I shop there almost daily, and quite often go in multiple times a day. We have never once stolen or damaged ANYTHING in their store and we've been shopping there for about 4 years. Really, he's doing us a favor because they have an unhealthy selection of food, and their cover photo on their Facebook page is 100% misleading and NOT from their store.

For a corner market the prices are a little steep. If you have a car you could drive a couple of blocks and go to a grocery store. Where most of the items you can get would be cheaper.

I shop here off and on. My impression is they are better recently than some times in the past. I know the ownership has changed hands. I was quite happy to find the store open and well stocked, after 3 days of snow during current heavy, multiple day snowstorm. They had milk and eggs today after 3 days of snow. While I was there, the clerks were discussing what more they should buy to make sure their customers will find what they need.
