Mestizo: A New Mexican Delight in Kendall Square Located in Kendall Square at 10 Broad Canal Way, Cambridge, MA, Mestizo is the latest addition to the ever-evolving culinary scene in the area. "Mestizo" translates to a person of mixed European and Indigenous ancestry in the former Spanish Empire, and this fusion is reflected in their vibrant and flavorful menu.Cocktails : First things first, their cocktails are fantastic! Priced at a reasonable $12, they are a steal compared to the $20 options you might find in Boston.Appetizers :Esquites: Grilled baby corn with an ancho marinade, crema fresca, and chipotle/Morita aioli. A fun twist on elote corn, beautifully presented and deliciously balanced with the cream. A solid 9/10.Empanadas: Filled with sweet plantain, guava, and Oaxaca cheese, served with charred pineapple sauce. These sweet empanadas were a delightful surprise. I'd order 10 more if I could! 9/10.Queso Fundido: Melted Oaxaca cheese with jalapeño, rajas poblanas, and guacamole. The cheese was divine but congealed quickly. Still tasty though! 7/10.Wings: Six dry-rubbed jumbo chicken wings with a garlic cilantro sauce. Juicy and perfectly cooked. 8/10.Tamal Ahogado: Chicken tamal with homemade mole negro, Oaxaca cheese, and crema fresca. The tamal was soft, and the sauce had decent flavor. 7/10.Main Dishes :Ceviche Marinero (Daily Catch): White fish with cilantro, onions, tomato, avocado, leche de tigre, passion fruit, and sweet potato mousse. Absolutely phenomenal! The passion fruit and avocado made this dish a standout. 10/10.Aguachile De Pez: Yellowtail Hamachi with a tequila blood orange marinade, cucumber, red onion, serrano peppers, and cara cara orange. Beautiful and delicious. 9/10.Enchilada Trio: Choose from chicken, cheese, or vegetarian filling, and sauces like mole negro, ranchera, or tomatillo. A visual and tasty delight. 8/10.Desserts :Tres Leches - Passion Fruit: You can't go wrong with tres leches, and the passion fruit twist makes it unique and delightful. 9/10.Sangria Brownie: Rich and flavorful with an orange and cherry sauce. It definitely needed ice cream but was worth every bite. 9/10.Mestizo is a place where you can easily share a variety of plates and leave very satisfied. I know I did!Overall Ratings:Food: 8/10Affordability: 7/10 Food is expensive but the drink prices make up for it!Ambiance: 6/10 (Seating indoor/outdoor but not overly fancy)If you're in Kendall Square and craving some innovative Mexican cuisine, Mestizo is definitely worth a visit!

Mestizo opened up recently near Kendall Square. This modern Mexican fusion restaurant and bar serves up a variety of tacos, enchiladas, sopes, hot & cold small plates, main entrees and a few desserts (churros & cake). The place has a modern feel in a L-shaped space with rows of table seating, seating up at the bar with TVs, big windows for natural light and murals on the walls. The bar offers 6 beers on tap, wine, margaritas, tequilas, and sangria. The prices here are on the higher spectrum.I stopped by Mestizo on a late afternoon and sat myself at the bar. The bartender brought over a glass of cold water as I went over the menu. I decided on the Tostadas De Atun ($18 plus tax), which has Asian fusion marinated tuna loin pieces, pickled red onion, avocado, garlic cilantro sauce, on top of a crisp corn tostadita. This cold appetizer had a citrusy flavor. Next, the Yuca Fries ($7 plus tax) were 5 thick crisp firm yuca fries with a creamy dressing for dipping. I also got 2 tacos which were the Carnitas ($7 plus tax) and Camarones ($7 plus tax). Though small tacos, both were nicely presented and both I enjoyed served on top of soft corn tortillas. The check was presented after I had enough and it came out to $41.73 with tax and before tip. Overall, the Mexican fusion food I had was pretty good, but be prepared to spend more than normal for Mexican fusion due to this prime location and modern setting.

This is a good, more upscale Mexican restaurant near MIT. We got guacamole (fresh, tasty), mojito, margarita and a spicy, cucumber gin drink. All were great. My partner got the mole enchiladas and I had the fish. Both were really good.

I had great hopes for a Mexican restaurant in Cambridge. But this turned out to be a bit of disappointment. It is better as a bar and probably ok for people not looking for vegetarian food. But vegetarian food selection is surprisingly little. The service is fine and ambiance is great. But given the food for us wasn't great and prices are a bit on the higher side (yes, it is Cambridge) but portions are so small. So I wish they improve the vegetarian options.

Nestled behind the One65 main apartment building, Mestizo is a delightful gem offering a fusion of Mexican and Oaxacan cuisine. My friends and I visited on a sunny afternoon for lunch, and the ambiance balanced the carefully curated decor of an indoor restaurant with the breezy fresh air of a patio with the open floor-to-ceiling windows. The staff were welcoming and attentive throughout our meal. We indulged in the enchiladas with mole sauce, though they were slightly dry underneath (4/5). However, the birria ramen stole the show with its flavorful broth and tender meat (5/5). While I wasn't blown away by the dishes, they certainly held their own against other Mexican eateries in the area. Mestizo's inviting atmosphere makes it a top choice for a casual dining experience with friends.

The restaurant is very spacious and has very creative wall designs. The staff was very friendly and would stop by ever so often check up on us to make sure we are comfortable and enjoying our meal. As for the food, the first thing I want to mention is the Tres Leches dessert. The cake was moist but not heavy, and it was not overly sweet. The sweetness and the tartness off the passion fruit were well balanced. As for my favorite dish, it would be the birria ramen. It was such a creative idea for this fusion of Asian and Mexican cuisine. The noodles were cooked perfectly, and the braised beef was so flavorful. The birria soup base was a bit salty for me, but eating all the ingredients together made it a very delicious dish. I would also have preferred if the yolk was a bit more runny. The tacos were good, I especially enjoyed the Camarones Taco, but the portion is a bit on the smaller side. I would prefer bigger tacos and skip on the Spanish rice. The ceviche was flavorful, the fish was very fresh, it was very light and refeshing.

The servers here are so friendly! I have been twice and had two separate servers and both were just as friendly as each other. This spot is in a great location to sit comfortably outside. The inside also looks really nice, but I have not sat inside yet. Both times I've had the vegetarian tacos, which are great. The portions are smaller than typical, but I don't think that's a bad thing. The mocktails are very reasonably priced at $5 and so delicious! I tried the coconut one. Finally, they have the best chips and guacamole!

This is somewhere I would actively recommend people not to go to. I was one of a few people who went together, and we all got different things. Their food looked nice but was all underseasoned and dry. Their portions are small, and the place is overpriced for what you are getting. I have never seen smaller tacos. This place also seems to have made a conscious decision to skimp on even the smallest things. You have to pay for chips and salsa and then they give you about a shot glass worth of salsa, how much money is that realisticly saving them. The only good thing I have to say is that it has comfortable seating and the windows open in summer, but they should have spent less money on decorating and more on ingredients.

The vibe is warm and welcoming. There are colorful textiles and other art. They have plans for patio seating but meanwhile large open windows to enjoy the spring weather (finally)Food? Yes, of course. I thrilled at the simple, yet hard to find in local restaurants, cheese enchiladas. They are served with rice and black beans seasoned with chiles and a bit of cinnamon. So good. I got take out and was acknowledged promptly by a host. The person who brought my food made sure, unprompted, that how they packaged was alright (in fact it was perfect).

They reseated us for a better view of the television, which was nice. However, the food seemed very overpriced for what we received.
