Formerly known as The Bearded Butcher, The Traveling Butcher is serving bricks-and-mortar restaurant-quality food. As soon as you approach the truck, the aromas make your mouth water. What I love is the simplicity of the menu. Just a few entrees and sides. No BS.Loose Meat Hamburger: As the menu states, "think sloppy joe without the slop." I think it's an apt description. Very generous portion. Quality meat. Nothing too innovative but unique for the burger offerings in Phoenix. They also have a Smashburger that I would be tempted to order next time.Iowa Pork Tenderloin Sandwich: The menu says this is big enough for two people and they ain't kidding! It's huge. Perfectly crisp pork tenderloin that spills out on all sides from the bun. Yum!Chicken Tenders: DEE-lee-shush! Expertly fried chicken tenders. It said it would be served with a side of sauce but it wasn't. Honestly, I'm not sure that these tenders needed any.I liked that they put checkered paper in the take-out boxes. It was a small touch that conveyed the home-cooked appeal of the food. Again, this could be food served from a "real" restaurant. For the sides, we ordered mac and cheese and potato salad. Both were generous portions (unfortunately, we were shorted one order of mac n' cheese but they were busy). I think the mac n' cheese had potential. The texture was great but the flavor was slightly underwhelming. I think a sharper splash of cheese or seasoning could help. But overall, good. For the midwest nature of the truck, I was surprised that they didn't have any dessert offerings. They ordinarily sell beef jerky but their website said that they were sold out.Employees were great and relatively calm given the long queue of customers that formed almost as soon as they started serving. The food truck scene in Phoenix continues to evolve and be one of the more exciting aspects of the food and beverage industry. The Traveling Butcher pops up around the Valley (find their schedule on Street Food Finder). Would I dine from here again? Without question, and, I look forward to seeing how their menu evolves.

Was at the Queen Creek Food Festival near the library and stopped in to look around at their truck. I was taken in by the sign that all are accepted that was in front of the truck. Since I was with a few people I walked with them to look at the other options but went back to their truck. I ordered the vegan smash burger and potato salad. The man at the window was so considerate and asked if the brioche bun( which had eggwash) was okay and the woman asked if cheese was okay too! Now, I love potato salad, but I haven't seen any like theirs before. I ordered without knowing what it looked like and I was completely surprised by the look. But I tried a bite cause it looked good, ate the whole serving without stopping for air XD It's so good! And I thought my family recipe was good? I want their recipe now! I found the kindness of these two to be just what the doctor ordered cause now I got some delicious food and good outlook on the rest of my day :)

OK so I just ordered the Iowa Pork Sandwich with potato salad. I'll start with the sandwich. It's advertised on their board as big enough for 2. Hopefully they can build on my review to help them along. The pork was pounded out or tenderized really thin it was too thin at the point that the seasoned batter overpowered the taste of the pork. My opinion is to not pound it out so thin and make it a sandwich for 1. I think the flavor of the pork would come through. I asked for all the condiments to be left off and separate, that did not happen so the mustard overpowered everything. The real disappointment is the potato salad. You really have to miss the mark to make this wrong. When I opened the take out box for the salad I wasn't sure what it was. It was totally runny and over powered by the pickle in the dressing. I actually thought it was a runny coleslaw when first looking at it. We eat out quit a bit so I always compare sandwiches to sandwiches according to cost so comparing my Iowa pork sandwich at $12.00 I then compared it to a Pastrami sandwich at Miracle Mile Deli in Phoenix as their sandwich is the same price, Miracle Mile beats them hands down. My thoughts are for improvement is bigger pieces of potato in their potato salad drop the pickle and mustard or at least a lot less and not so runny dressing.. Don't pound the pork so thin as to only taste batter less mustard on the sandwich. So good luck as you hopefully take this as constructive criticism.

Waited for the food truck to show up at Simple Machine brewery. They were late and then when we went to order they were out of all their main food items but two. Why bother showing up. If I were the business featuring them I would not have them back. Bad business.
