It was a nice warm evening with lots of people and vendors out for the Phoenix first Friday art walk. The streets were closed off to car traffic. The pedestrian walkways had many vendors set up, selling artwork, jewelry, food, clothing, lighted hula hoops, specialty balloons and paraphernalia. This is a hip and gentrified area. You never know what you will see while wandering the streets. There was police presence in the event there was trouble. We walked by a group of people that were drumming. It was a free event for anybody to join in. Drums, tambourines and noisemakers were available for anybody who was game. There was dancing & live music too. Many of the stores and restaurants stayed open in the hopes of enticing interested parties. If you arrive before sunset, you will be able to see the graffiti in the area. This is definitely a fun evening of people watching and vendor hopping. Something for all ages.Arrive early to find a parking space. Vendors are usually set up by 6pm and goes until 10pm. The street parking is metered and operates until 10 PM. The meters accept credit cards. There is also paid lot parking on the side streets.

Cool street art that tells a story, very vibrant colors and lots to see. Metered parking is affordable. Also pretty cool shops and restaurants in the area so you can spend time exploring the area on foot after you park.

Roosevelt Row in Downtown Phoenix is a nice place go for a nice evening walk and see some art, murals and eat good food. Being a native, I witnessed the transformation of Downtown Phoenix from to what it is today. It wasn't much back then until the last 20 years. In the late 80's and early 90's, artists starting coming in and begin to create studios out of many of the abandoned buildings. Now this area it is home to art galleries, bars, shops, and restaurants. The First Friday Artwalk that takes place mostly on Roosevelt Row started in the 90's and is easily the most popular event. Phoestivus is their popular holiday event. Favorite dining and drinking spots for me are Taco Chelo, Rough Rider, Arizona Wilderness Brewing Co., Angel's Trumpet Ale House, Palma and Matt's Big Breakfast. Cobra Arcade is a lot of fun and brought back to me my days of hanging out at video arcades as a kid. The Pemberton and The Churchill offer shopping and dining establishments all in one setting. Roosevelt Row has a lot of history to it. If you love and appreciate street art and people watching, this is a great spot to see a lot of it within walking distance. Check out a book called "Phoenix's Roosevelt Row (Images of Modern America)" for photos and history about Roosevelt Row going back to its early days.

Roosevelt Row is a pocket area in Phoenix that is akin to any town's well-gentrified artsy area. Graffiti art and murals are all around this district - alley ways, office buildings, restaurants and clothing boutiques, you name it. Head off the main drag road and you'll find streets of gorgeous Frank Lloyd Wright, Santa Fe, Cape Cod, etc. designed houses, manicured lawns, small well-trimmed palm trees lining the streets, and cool colors all around: A mini k Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive, baby! Yes, some of the homes are on the historical registry also, which is always a great tidbit of preserved history, imo. Like a side, the streets are lined with independent eateries, eclectic clothing and houseware boutique stores, and just a general buzz about it. I'm sure this is a well-known kitschy area that hipsters and young out-of-towners come to, but for me, the graffiti and old architecture make this area worth walking around.

On a trip to Phoenix and Scottsdale, I spent my last day in Phoenix at Roosevelt Row. It was time well spent. Roosevelt Row is the artistic district of Phoenix. If you start at the beginning, you'll see a nice mural that says Roosevelt Row. This is just the start. You'll see a ton of street art in the area. That's what it's all about. Walk around and explore all of the art. You'll see a bunch of restaurants, bars, and shops if you need a break from it all. Despite that, come here for the art. It's an hour or two well spent.

It totally depends on what you're looking for and when you are going. If you are roaming just by yourself to explore art and food/food/and drinks, GET AFTER IT. But when it's packed it can be a bit bunch!

This is an area where local street artist can put their talents on display. It is like a free art gallery of up and coming artist. Most of the pieces seemed to be commissioned and just created for the love of art. Referred to as "Mural Alley", it is also called 1 1/2 Street. What ever you call it, it has a very high concentration of murals in one area. There are a lot of murals and graffiti in this and the surrounding area that is well worth a look. I recommend just getting out and walking around. If you are driving here, parking is easy. Just take your pick of one of the streets. This area is also easily accessible by public transportation. You will find some very detailed art, some graffiti that you can't read and everything in between here. You will be seeing a lot from the artists showcasing their talents in this area.A lot if the murals are on houses, many of which assume are vacant. You will find some on businesses in the area as well. This area is packed with color and you can spend quite a bit of time just walking around and exploring. Or jump on a scooter and go.This is a must see for public art enthusiast. You can easily make 2 hours to a half of day of it. I loved this hip, trendy, creative area and I highly recommend putting this spot on your itinerary while you are in Phoenix.

This incredible leisurely art walk is a fascinating display of renderings by many of Phoenix's Muralists. It's a hidden gem in an alley in Downtown - kind of a hidden destination, yet close to other walkable unique city posts like galleries, boutiques and shops, along with some fantastic eats along the way. One can enjoy a relaxed time and include brunch or lunch while your at it. Some of our best artists are on display here such as Caravao, Lee, Volar and Caruso - just to mention a few. This is a must to really understand and appreciate the true nature and core of our great community.

While in Phoenix last month, we had an opportunity to check out the talented artists who have painted murals and other items here. This is considered Phoenix art district and there are galleries, public murals, restaurants, bars and fashion boutiques. It was a beautiful and warm day to explore this area. We felt safe as we walked in alleyways and streets. I would definitely like to return when they hold their First Fridays. I make it a point to visit art districts of any new city I visit.Check it out and support local artists.
