This was my number one destination spot when I planned on going to Apache Junction simply because it's not something you hear about or get a real chance to learn about and I was not disappointed. The tour is entertaining and informative and costumes and rooms look so authentic. Absolutely LOVED everything about it!

Situated up a spiral staircase above the post office, across from the saloon, and a stone's throw from the church is Lu Lu's Bordello. Mannequins in various states of dress peered out of the windows of the olive green Victorian building. For a couple bucks you can take a guided tour. Now I'm not sure if the set of rooms the museum is in really was a brothel at any point or if the furniture was really what there during that period; however, it's worth taking the 15-minute tour just ask questions like, "What did they use for contraception?" As it was told to me by the guide, attired in a low-cut dress with a shawl, the ladies would insert coins inside themselves to kill single-celled organisms and may donate them to the church if they felt charitable. Of course, this question was asked and answered while no children were around. They do mention tailoring their narratives depending on age and comfort with graphic topics, and they did keep it clean when there were kids around. Such topics were discussed like why women chose prostitution for an occupation and the girls fighting over the index of mail-order catalogs to use for toilet paper, among other things. Our tour guide was quite friendly and open to discussing just about anything. Before we left she stared dreamily off out of one of the balconies, saying how wonderful it would be to find the Lost Dutchman's mine. Her silhouette, complete with an ostrich feather atop her head wafting in the breeze, brought a whole new level of patina to the authentic feel of the place.

I'm one of the tour guides here and I love all the guests that come in here. They truly make the job enjoyable followed by getting dressed up and being able to educate them of the town history and the history of the woman of the town back in 1893.
