I don't typically review grocery stores, but in this case, I wanted to add a review because the current rating is not reflective of my experience in the store at all!The store is not large, but has a wide variety of items - fresh produce, frozen foods, dairy, sweets/cookies, savory snacks, tea/coffee spices, grains, etc., all organized well. As someone who is not particularly familiar with Indian cooking, I found the curated shelves helpful. However, not sure if it has everything that someone more familiar with the cuisine would be wishing for.Though my s/o and I are more the type of people to browse on our own, while we were at the store, there was another woman who was asking lots of questions about spices and flavors, and the owners were incredibly helpful and spent a lot of time discussing with her what she might have been looking for, which I think was very good customer service.I will definitely be back, and am looking forward to trying new things from here!

Looking for special Indian spices or speciality produce this is the place. I was on a mission searching for Thai peppers and Kaffir leaves for a recipe. The gentleman at register was very informative and very kind. The store was very clean and organized I navigated my way around easily. I'm looking forward to going back with a bigger grocery list.

I have been going to Ashoka since i was 16 and I am 40 now so that means it's been in business for a long time. They are very nice and they always find you what you need. The groceries are not expensive and they have beautiful Ganesh idols during Ganesh cathruti. Absolutely love shopping there. It's always a nice experience.

The owners are always so sweet and helpful. Wouldn't go anywhere else again. They carry all the basics and more. Perfect place for Indian families and those attempting to cook Indian food.

This place makes me realise that there is tremendous business potential for another Indian grocery store in the Chandler area. The owners hit the jackpot with the location and that is why they take every liberty to dole out substandard groceries. The expiry date is never mentioned on the packaging and if it is, it is usually wrong. The other day we bought some chapatis (Indian bread) with 22nd June '09 expiry clearly marked on it. When we opened the packet for dinner we found nothing but green fungus. On another occasion we bought some solidified pickle. There have been innumerable disappointments but we kept going back because there was no other option nearby. The first lesson that we learn in a Marketing class is that 'the customer always wins' and for now I have decided to shift my purchases to another store in Tempe.

This is one of the worst indian stores I have ever been too. The owner or the person who sits over the counter is really really rude. I had gone to purchase sesame seeds from the shop which were marked 1.79$ and the owner charged me 2.99$. I confirmed the price in the aisle and told the person to re-check the price. He said I should go myself and check the brand and price because he is pretty sure this price was correct and I am wrong.Once I reconfirmed and told him, he walked with me to the aisle and saw that the price was indeed 1.79$. Rather than saying sorry or at least behave a little apologetically, he said its computers fault n its a big store, he cant remember everything!! His behavior was unimaginably rude and unprofessional.Would never recommend anyone to visit this store!

I came to chandler yr an half ago.. considering ashoka as the only option, I was a weekly visitor to this grocery shop.. you can expect a very rude behavior and expired products in this shop. I picked up Tomato Ketchup and noticed that it was already expired. I informed this to the person over the counter and he replied back saying its consumer's duty to pick the right thing.Since he has to manage a big store, he cannot keep track of this on daily basis. this statement was really rude and un-professional.I never went back to ashoka after that. I figured out other options in Mesa and Tempe..

Horrible store. They have nothing. The guy at the counter has zero customer service skills like other folks have indicated in past reviews. He tries to be cool with his American accent but he is a jerk. He was trying to sell me expired product saying it was The manufacturing date. I was like get the hell out of here you liar!
