We came in for dinner on a Saturday night and had a bad experience. After trying their Seattle location, wanted to try this one and disappointed. As we came 45 minutes before closing, we did ask the server if it's okay for us to order and dine in, she looked pissed at us and said she has to ask if the kitchen would be open. She came back with a yes and asked us to wrap up in 25 mins- really? As we were hungry, we went ahead and ordered, she was being unresponsive for most of the time we spent there and rushed us to order. We ordered 3 different types of Ramens, 2 bowls and an appetizer. The food was good, no complaints there. But definitely disappointed with how we were treated. I'm not sure if we would come back here again.

I've wanted to try Menya Musashi a couple times now, and since they opened a location in Federal Way, I came here with my family since it was less busy compared to the Seattle location! One thing I wanted to highlight is definitely the service - I saw a few other reviews about this but there's one waitress in particular who definitely does NOT wanna be there. She frowned as my family and I came in maybe an hour before closing. Even if that is late, we still were able to finish and leave before they closed since we didn't wanna make anyone stay later. During service the waitress was unkind, and just seemed like she'd much rather be anywhere else.In terms of location, the new restaurant is inside a small shopping plaza in Federal Way, with lots of parking and seating inside! The tables are like 3 giant tables and benches together, so seating can be intimate if it's busy. For food, my family and I shared the Chicken Nanban, Karage, and regular takoyaki. I thought the Karage and Takoyaki were pretty standard, but I loved the chicken nanban. I don't know many other places in the area that sells it, but the chicken was juicy, and the egg salad on top complimented the dish well.I'd say the most redeeming quality was the Tsukumen. I got the hybrid Tsukumen, and I thought the broth was SO flavorful. There was a great amount of pork belly, and though it was a bit heavy, I truly enjoyed this dish. The rest of my family ordered the hybrid ramen, to which they said it was okay, but everyone really liked the tsukumen!Maybe the service will improve, but I would be interested in coming back just for the tsukumen and chicken nanban!

Place is legit good. I love ramen but now hooked up tsukemen. It was my first time and now I'm visiting this place weekly until I get tired. They have a Japan location and was told even their bowls are imported from Japan. Fun fact.

My sister and I came in on a Friday evening for dinner. It didn't look like the plaza was too busy from the outside since there was lots of parking available. Once we stepped inside, we were surprised how busy it was inside. Fortunately, we didn't have to wait at all to be seated. We were greeted and seated right away. I ordered the Original Tsukemen (Tonkotsu and fish based broth, served with green onions, menma, diced pork belly and one piece of pork belly). My sister ordered the Spicy Curry Tsukemen (Tonkotsu based broth with spicy curry, served with green onions, menma, diced pork belly and one piece of pork belly). We both ordered it so the broth would be hot and not cold. The next time we are in the area, we plan to try it cold! We really enjoyed our food and were satisfied.

Why is this so heavenly? Like actually what's in the water? I've never had an egg that was such an experience to eat on my tastebuds. Next time I'll order three!! We ordered the black garlic and loved every last drop, like literally. Only thing that could make this place better is more protein options. I'm not a big pork belly fan but enjoy the flavor it adds. They do have a fried chicken option for a side dish. Maybe I'll try that next time.

In shortGreat ramen shop with tons of sides and styles, including the ever-elusive tsukemen noodles. In longThis part of Federal Way is where I spent most of my movie-going and arcade-going adolescence, and my grandpa's business was not far around the corner. I can't believe how many new roads and buildings have popped in the, oh, 5 or so minutes since I moved away. One of the many new strip malls that seem packed with interesting food choices is here on 317th, where Menya has opened their new southern outpost after great success in Seattle. They're the kind of place that keeps customers and even employees for years upon years, so it's kinda funny I hadn't gotten around to trying them until they popped up in my old stamping grounds. There are two sets of front doors and plenty of parking. You walk into a big, bright, airy, sparkling clean and modern cube of a dining room, with tons of woodcut and anime type art on the walls, tabletops, and even the dishes. They might not be able to make the outside feel like you're in Japan, but they're certainly trying to make the inside feel that way. Lots of bubbly pop tunes (I would imagine J-Pop) on the hi-fi.There are long communal tables, a few family tables, and a handful of 2-tops (which have unpadded chairs, btw). They're all over cleaning anything and everything the second anyone heads out.The menu has 3 pages of ramens and sides and a page of drinks. I got the iced oolong tea, which came out in a can but tasted better than plenty of fresh-brewed iced teas I've had. TakoyakiWow, these are good, and clearly house-made. Generously stuffed with fish, covered with flakes, and dipped in the OG sauce in my case--and that is some very flavorful and delicious sauce. I need to work through the other 6 or 8 sauce options over time. Before I go any farther, lemme note that when ANY food served hot hits your table, it is coming in straight from the surface of the sun. Chicken KaraageTender, boneless, good flavor, nice dipping sauce. I feel so much more grown up ordering nuggets when I don't have to say "nuggets" or "tenders." Spicy Miso Tonkotsu ramenI know, I know, I shoulda gotten the tsukemen, since it's hard to find and they're known for it here. They have a little cartoon table tent explaining how to eat it, for heaven's sake. My boy S ordered it, for his first time (would've been mine, too), and when the server asked how he wanted the noodles, he had to think--and said "mmm, cold." Our awesome server chuckled and said "good, then I don't have to judge you." They're all so friendly and nice and good at their jobs here.Anyway. My ramen was great--rich and creamy broth, which I really craved this afternoon. Spice as a seasoning component, not ratcheted up to stunt levels. (Too spicy for some folks, but pleasant and delicious if you regularly eat anything hotter than Sriracha). Fresh crisp condiments on top, tender and flavorful pork belly and egg. Everything just perfect, really--awesome chewy noodles.I'd put this place in my top 5 ramen spots, and I haven't even tried the specialty of the house yet. We were out the door for about $80 for 3 apps, 2 bowls, and 3 teas. Worth it.

As a traveler, I like it when hotels have nice places within walking distance. Well, Menya Masashi opened a location in the same plaza. The food is authentic and very good...had the hybrid ramen, which was a balanced taste with a very tasty over overall experience. The tokoyaki appetizer was a pleasant surprise with a fired ball with creamy center and clamari bits inside.... The service was quick and polite with modern atmosphere with an hip vibe!

Place wasn't as nice on the inside but the atmosphere and staff are nice. We both got Ramen and chicken as an appetizer. To be honest the chicken was absolutely AMAZING. We would come back just to put back a large portion of it. Spicy miso ramen 7.5/10 good but lacked flavoringBlack Ramen: 5/10: it was decent. I added another pork and all the spice they gave us but it still felt bland. Overall, would return for chicken and something new!

My sisters and I came here for lunch on a Monday afternoon. We have been to the Oahu location and wanted to see if this location was the same. We ordered the chicken karaage for our appetizer. The chicken was alright. Lightly breaded and the chicken was a bit rubbery. I wouldn't get it again. Wish it was crispier and less rubbery. I ordered the original Tsukemen and that was delicious! The broth was filled with flavor and it was thick. I ordered the noodles hot, which stuck together, but it was great! The pork belly that it came with needed to be charred and cooked more. I added an egg which was perfectly cooked! My sisters ordered the miso ramen. That was very tasty. Like mine, their pork belly needed to be cooked and charred more. The ambience was clean and the service was okay. I am glad we stopped in to give it a try.

I tried the Seattle location many years ago and loved it, so I was excited to dine at this location. We came on a weeknight and there was only one table with customers, so the service was quick. Looking at the menu, it seems they have expanded to include ramen and mazemen. Unfortunately, the only vegan options were ramen. Although I wasn't really feeling a piping hot ramen on a warm sunny day, I got the Vegan Hybrid Ramen (meaning both black and red). The hybrid had a blend of black garlic oil and spicy chili oil. The garlic flavor was quite strong in the broth but I couldn't taste any spice in it. I like that the toppings were very filling since it was a lot of thick fried tofu and bean sprouts.
