I moved back to Seattle 5 years ago. One of my favorite dishes is Menudo. I search for menudo anywhere I travel the US and have done so since the 1980s.I have had menudo a half dozen restaurants in Seattle with only one that was just a tad above average quality. That's until now, when I found there's a small restaurant in Des Moines, a small suburb south of SeaTac. Menuderia Maria. I understand they've been there 5 years! Damn!Menuderia Maria is a small restaurant that seats probably 25-30 people, modern newer building on the main level of an Urgent Care business sandwiched on the other side by a donut shop. It's very hard to see the business. There's a sign on the building but it's obscured by a small tree. Park only in the lot for the Urgent Care, not the Donut Shop.I ordered the large Menudo Rojas (they have the white version as well). Ordered everything in it too and to my liking, they do put hominy in! Yes, plus a pigs ankle, perfect for enjoying the cartilage. The soup comes with excellent corn tortillas on request along with chopped onions, cilantro, a hot chili sauce and a whole lime sliced in half. Dried oregano and pepper flakes are on the table to add in as well. The soup was delicious. Very good beef flavor soup stock complimented by the red sauce they use. With all the additives I put in, the soup was fantastic. All the tripe, cleaned of fat and was cut in small bites size pieces were tenderly cooked.A cold cerveza was on the side and tasted great as a compliment to the soup.Twice now I've been there in a week. Definitely local knowledge customers primarily. They're menu is small and limited but looks very good. I will branch out next time in, but first, I had to get my fill on the best menudo in Seattle by far!

I drove down from Edmonds to try the menudo rojo and the machaca with beans and grilled potatoes. I opted for no hominy in the menudo.I really enjoyed both dishes and I have to say the corn tortillas are amazingly thin and fluffy. Overall the experience was excellent so I will go back again. The service was above average, which is also a huge plus.

Stopped in on the way to the airport to leave from a weekend of Bachelor Party festivities! This was the perfect way to end the trip. Especially after feeling the way we were from all the beer and poor decisions. This was as authentic as authentic gets. I ordered the beef blanco and it was more than enough for one person. The serving sizes are big so remember that if you're going in for a one man job!it was a tad pricer than I am used to but that's Seattle for you so I'm sure it's average for the area. The staff was friendly and great! The area was clean and modernly attractive. A great stop if you like menudo!

WARNING!Solo comida Mexicana no colonizada en este establecimiento. If you have been to Menuderia Don Vicente in San Diego, CA, you'll recognize the menudo and menu. Maria worked at MDV for 8 years before moving to Washington. This place has the best menudo, pozole, and caldo de res in Washington, probably because everyone else too scared to stay authentic.Tortillas hecho de mano were fresh and toothsome, menudo broth was rich and homogenized, the salsa was earthy, and the rice and beans were fresh. The tamal was prepared traditionally with corn husk tied ends. It wasn't fresh and had dry hard ends. Menudo may not get the hype, that birria has had the last couple of years. But, those of us in the know.....knows. You feel me?Location is small and in a shady area where criminal elements congregate. They plan on relocating after asking the city for help and not receiving any. Service is exceptional.

2 of us split a Menudo Rojo and an order of the Dorado Tacos. Both were excellent. This style of tacos was completely new to me, and the most interesting I've had. They are small, homemade tortillas folded over with with a thin layer of potato and shredded beef, then fried, served with lettuce, pickled onion, and avocado on top. No turning your head sideways for these tacos. It wasn't so busy when we were there for lunch, and we got a friendly introduction to the food from the younger fellow who appeared to be the owner.Simple ambience, and the parking is easy to drive past if you don't know what you're looking for. But the menudo is the star here. Recommended.

DMAN it all!!! Best menudo ever!!! Blanco? Rojo? With or without hominy beans? Who gives all these options?!!! Menuderia maria does! I swear their tortilla are freshly made as well or they did a great job in fooling me.Went here a few times and it was the same cashier guy. The gentlemen's is an exemplary example of an employee who enjoys his job! So courteous so welcoming! I think he might be an owner in some form but it really shows he cares about the business!Ambiance is as expected of a hidden gem. I do not compare a fine dining restaurant's ambiance that is not equivocal to the food being serve. For example, We all know taco trucks serve the better taco than any establish dine in restaurants and the ambiance of a taco truck should be judge accordingly.

The food here is delicious I would highly recommend! If you want Caldo de res get here earlier in the day we've come twice and they are sold out near closing time. The service here is really good, staff is friendly and helpful. The overall price for food is pretty $$$ high but in my opinion it's worth it. I would definitely come more if I could. The ambiance is overall nice but nothing special.
