Umami Japanese Steakhouse

We came with a party of four for dinner tonight and had a wonderful dinner and a great time. The quality of the ingredients was excellent, and the preparations were very tasty.We had mostly habachi dinners and tried different combinations steak, salmon, scallops, filet mignon, and chicken. The chef was highly entertaining and our dinners were prepared very promptly.I would highly recommend this restaurant. The staff was friendly and helpful from the receptionist to the habachi chef (and we're talking about you too, Rudi). Thanks for the great meal!

We love the entertainment of a Hibachi dinner, & we've been here twice now. It was delicious both times. We've had the filet, lobster, scallops, and chicken and loved them all. They were packed for Valentine's Day so things were a bit hectic. We were seated 30 minutes earlier than expected so that was nice. Every table was full and lots of orders were being picked up as well. The sushi looks amazing, but I haven't tried it. Can't wait to again!

Over the last five years, the food is consistently gone downhill. The restaurants kind of in disarray and needs to be overhauled and updated. We went with a group of four people before the families made it home everybody was stopping at gas stations to use the bathroom.Would not recommend

Food was great along with excellent service. Loved the Ambiance and was a great dining experience. Had a group of 12 to celebrate birthdays. Staff went above and beyond to make our celebration memorable!

Hidden gem!! I'm a Calif. escapee...so I know good Sushi...something we thought we would have to live without...and we've lived in Columbia for 4 yrs before finding Umami! Traveled to Franklin for Sushi...until now!!! Truly delicious taste, freshness and quality, service and ambience! We are over the moon with this place! We love the Princess roll but everything so far has been really good!

Best sushi in Columbia! Always perfect takeout experience. The guy that manages the front/host area is always so nice. The inside of the restaurant in gray with a lot of fluorescent lighting which bothers my eyes, but I can't complain - great food!

Super bummed about our visit tonight. We've been coming here since they opened and RAVED about this place at first. The last few visits here I feel as though the quality of service and food has started to decline. Our visit tonight will most likely be our last. I ordered a hot sake as I always do, but tonight it was very clearly watered down. I've have enough hot sake in my life (including multiple times here) to know when it doesn't taste right. When I brought it to our servers attention he basically tried to tell me "no, this is how sake tastes" and make me feel stupid. I refused to accept it and sent it back asking for a glass of Cabernet. As soon as he brought out the Cabernet, I could tell by the color that this ALSO was watered down. Tasting it confirmed that yes, it was watered down. My husband agreed with both instances. I worked in the service industry for quite a while and know that this is a trick places use to help save money, but I caught on. I didn't say anything about the wine as I didn't want to be belittled for a second time. When we came here in the beginning we loved how interactive the hibachi chefs were. Tonight was a total 180. The chef came to our table, cooked, and left. Let everyone catch a piece of zucchini in their mouths and that was it. Our kids were so disappointed because they know how fun this place usually is. The food was bland and nothing to write home about. Save your money and go somewhere else, we will not be back.
