Thistledome (118 Highway 309 S. Byhalia, MS)The absolute sweetest family owns this. Great food and ohhhh man the coffee is amazing. We were given a historical tour of the home. Soooo much amazing history. The house is absolutely beautiful. A lot of work has been put into it to keep it this well preserved. "The house was built in 1840 by Joseph Chalmers, the District Attorney for Marshall County. He was the father of James Ronald Chalmers and H.H. Chalmers and uncle to Jefferson Davis. It was designed as a two-storey, hip-roofed house. It was purchased by E. B. Horn in 1900. He paid $10.00 down in December of 1899 and remaining balance of $690 on January 1, 1900. Horn turned the house, which was facing East, to face North after his wife refused to live in the house because it faced a hog farm. He also redesigned it in the neoclassical architectural style.Shortly before World War II, in 1938, the house was purchased by the McAuley family. Mrs. McCauley was asked how she liked the house and her reply was "This will do me". What started as the "this will do me" house became Thistledome."It was acquired by Jill and Todd Maxwell in 2012. The couple turned it into a restaurant/coffee shop/venue."

This was my first ever visit. I was totally impressed. The place was just gorgeous. The coffee was perfect. I told the very pleasant young lady I loved caramel and to surprise me. She didn't disappoint me. It was very yummy and the employee was just a doll. I spoke with the friendly owner about the lunch special for tomorrow. It sounded so yummy, I made plans to come back tomorrow. The staff made me feel welcomed and the coffee was just perfect. A must see/do for the area. I love supporting locally owned family businesses.

We had a wonderful lunch last Friday, chicken and dressing, so good very well seasoned! Along with a choice of sides. There was also a choice of desserts, I had cheesecake that was delicious! The food was great but the atmosphere is even better. Learning the history of the home was so interesting. Very fun afternoon, we really enjoyed ourselves.
