May be the best restaurant in Memphis. Came here with a large group. Everyone ordered different items off the menu so I was able to taste a lot. I was not disappointed! Everything was outstanding. The food taste was incredible and the service was top notch! I highly recommend trying this place out if you have never been. Personally, I ordered the salmon and grits. First bite and the tastebuds were dancing. Another favorite was the egg rolls. Keep up the good work!

Visited Memphis with a large group and the owner Lenard and his staff were very accommodating to our group. The music selection was perfect, the drinks were good, and the wings I ordered were great as well. If I'm ever in Memphis, I would definitely visit again!

This was my first time visiting The Genre! I went right at opening, so we were able to seat ourselves. The server immediately came to our table and gave us water and took our drink order. I had an apple martini. They normally don't serve those, but he made it for me and asked me to taste it. If I didn't like it he would've remade it or given me another drink, but it was actually delicious! Next up was our appetizer and food order. Keep in mind we went for 901 Black Restaurant Week, so the menu was curated. I had the catfish and broccoli. The catfish was dipped in the 201 (honey hot Cajun) sauce. It was so good! Let me just say this is some of the best fried fish I have had and they were huge! I enjoyed every bite of it. The broccoli was delicious and flavorful as well. I'm already looking forward to my next visit. The ambiance was really nice as well. It's small, but packed with lots of soul. The artwork, Memphis themes throughout, and the music feels like southern comfort. The patio area outside is also nice. I love the lights and space. Keep in mind that this is directly across from 201 in the downtown area, so parking isn't free. Also they are in a shared space, so you have to walk out the back to get to the restroom. Overall, this is a nice spot to get food and drinks.

It was Monday, day one of State Jury Duty, and three of us head to Genre Restaurant for lunch. Its a quaint restaurant with a musical theme and Memphis vibe. The service was fast and efficient; menu was a QR Code at the table and Servers had handhelds to show your bill and take payment. We enjoyed Fish & Potatoes, Fish & Grits, and a Southwest Egg Roll. All were very good, but the fried catfish, cheese grits, and egg rolls were EXCEPTIONAL!Downtown Memphis has a lot of great food options, but Genre Restaurant offers such a unique experience I will definitely be back soon.

I met some friends here and it was okay. The service started off great but as the night went on it declined a bit. The wings were okay. The sauce was good but they could have been fried longer. I suggest just ordering a drink and not getting the 2 for 1 specials. The drinks tasted like koolaid literally. I ended up ordering shots to make it better. I did like the vibe tho and the Dj was really good. They also had karaoke the night I went and it was fun. I will visit again because now I know what to expect and not order.

I had a wonderful experience at this black owned establishment. The atmosphere was great, service was exceptional, food was delicious. I absolutely recommend the catfish & grits. The drinks were pretty & tasty. It's not a huge place but that doesn't take away from anything. It's a cozy feeling. Brunch with music & hookah equals great vibes for me!

Really good wings! You are reminded at all times to pay for parking. Don't ignore that. Our server was on her first day. She was really nice and was honest about what she had tried. She recommended basically everything she had already tried. She was spot on with the wings. I got the hot with lemon pepper extra crispy. The fries were also good and hot. The burger was plain with just cheese although we asked for everything but onion. Not sure what that was about. The name of the burger makes you think it's going to be fully loaded. We had the exact opposite experience. We both ordered strawberry lemon drops. Our drinks were good, but I should have said no strawberry. It was too sweet. If that's what you like, you would love it. The music was good and we enjoyed the music videos playing all around. Very small spot but nice atmosphere overall.

I came here for okra and a drink and I'm still here THREE hours later lol! It's a youthful spot, truly apart of my culture and the current service is always great. I heard they are serving brunch now...if that's your thing you might want to get ahead of the crowd! Fell in love with them via the food truck so I'm glad to know the brick and mortar is alive and well!

Food was really good I had salmon and grits with a side of waffles. Service was worse than terrible. Waited 30 minutes for our order to be taken in which I had to raise my voice to get the waiter attention who kept walking right past us. They quickly served ppl at the bar who walked in after us my boyfriend walked up to the bar hoping to get someone attention but kept getting ignored by the waiter. After i finally got the waiter attention he said he have to tell someone else to take our order for whatever reason and proceeded to walk back and forth around the restaurant. Another 10 minutes go by and I had to tell the lady who sat us down that we still didn't order our food she was surprised so that indicated that the waiter never informed her we were still waiting. She finally took our order didn't offer anything for our time being waisted and we had to wait almost 15 minutes for a mimosa that was very warm once we got it. We finally received our food in which I was very satisfied with but sadly the poor service overpowered the good food. Then once we got the check they had the nerve to already include gratuity for a two person table on top of a service fee this is why waiters think they don't have to have good customer service...they're already getting paid
