I want Southern Soup to succeed. I want it to be small enough where it never forgets its roots, it large enough to grow as it needs to. I tried the fried chicken, mac and cheese, and collards, it was mid-week, about 6:30. The restaurant wasn't full. In fact, there was only 1 other person eating. Another group came in as we were finishing up.The chicken was fair. The mac and cheese okay. The collards were good. I'm going back to give it another try. If you haven't tried it, you should.

If you are looking for incredible Southern Cooking...you need to visit Southern Soul Cuisine. They opened in September and when I arrived Adrian (the owner) went through all of the meat options and then he told me about the fried chicken. The fried chicken is cooked to order so I went with the white meat option (breast and wing) and I added a thigh. For sides I selected the pinto beans, cabbage, and sweet potatoes along with a fountain drink. You may have to wait 15 minutes for the chicken...but the chicken Adrian serves up would make your Granny jealous. This was some of the best fried chicken I've had in a very long time, crispy skin that was not overly seasoned and the meat was tender and juicy. While the chicken was excellent, the sides were saying "you ain't tasted nothing yet"!!! Pinto beans had a great depth to the flavor with a rich sauce and tender beans. The sweet potatoes were not overly sweetened (like candied) and you could taste the sweet potato, slightly firm, and reminded me of Thanksgiving. I saved the best for last...the cabbage. Many times cabbage offered is just boiled, but Adrian adds some secret ingredients and it is awesome. So while the meat was excellent, the sides are created in true Southern tradition. Several homemade desserts were available...but I was stuffed. The location may be difficult to get into with traffic, but the food that awaits you is well worth it. Pay Adrian a visit and enjoy some good old home cooking right here in Murfreesboro.

Stopped by with my bride about 2 Saturdays ago for lunch. A Meat & 3 we wanted to try. To my surprise, mostly a full menu even on the weekend. Out of white beans, but those take time to recook for the day. The staff was friendly, helpful, and pointed us to the cooked to order fried chicken and fried catfish. Leaving diets behind we both opted for the fried catfish. Appropriate to add that we both grew up West of the Mississippi River and have been looking for good catfish that could rival that from the White and Saline rivers in Arkansas for almost 30 years. There have been a few good, some passable but didn't last. This is the real deal. Ambiance is not all that great, but the food makes up for it. It is in an old Krystal's and can be difficult to get in the parking lot. But hey this is a food review, so let me get back to the sides. Real veggies, cabbage, greens, green beans, black eyed peas. They also have the Carbo rich sides, mac&cheese, mashed potatoes, pinto and white beans. Guilty about the diet, I stayed with the veggies. Bride said that the mashed were really good and not box. A really good hot water cornbread, but hush puppies would be nice. If you get close to downtown and the square, they are on Broad. You won't be sorry that you checked them out. They do have a very good looking baked chicken I am going to try when the diet wins out again.

This is a welcome new addition to Murfreesboro! A friend & I tried this new restaurant that just opened for our Thursday lunch date. It not the easiest place to get into, but was well worth it. It's served cafeteria style. I ordered the fried catfish with 2 sides (mash potatoes & green beans) everything was delicious. I even got some peach cobbler Togo. We chatted with the owner after we finished our lunch. They still have a few kinks to work out, but besides that we enjoyed our lunch. Will definitely be back!

I have been craving some good homestyle soul food and My mom raved about this restaurant. Tried it for the first time tonight and it was absolutely delicious. Catfish was fried fresh when we ordered and the sides were packed with flavor! Can't wait to go back to try the meatloaf and smothered pork chops! Pricing was good for the amount of food you get.

We had a wonderful lunch at "Southern Soul" today after morning worship with 3 friends. It was the first time for us to eat here. The Food was DELICIOUS Southern Cooking. Some people may think it costs too much, but the food is wonderful and it's a very good quantity of food. (From about $11.99 to $17.99, plus drink, and additional for dessert. No Tip expected)You pick your food and it's put on plates and a tray in front of you when you come in. You take your food to a table and get your drink yourself from a dispenser. LOCATED at the building of the old "Krystal Restaurant" on Broad Street and Old Fort Parkway.

The main courses like the baked chicken, fried chicken, and meatloaf 10/10. The service there is great really nice kind people 10/10. The restaurant is very clean 10/10. With all that being said here's the bad part. It's the sides the Mac and cheese, string beans, etc. they are very bland and don't have much taste 2/10. If this restaurant would work on those sides I would eat it often. The main courses are to die for. I really really want to love this place I hope they can work on this! Thanks
